The F-Scale, developed by Theodor Adorno to measure the authoritarian personality, consists of nine items assessing conventionalism, submission to authority, aggression toward norm violators, anti-independence, superstition, power preoccupation, cynical worldview, projection of danger, and exaggerated sexual concern; however, the scale has faced criticism for assuming authoritarianism is exclusively right-wing and for being based on outdated psychodynamic theories.

Do you think Adorno s F-Scale would still pick up on... #Shorts #mira_is_psychedAdded:
Let's do another page in the Oxford Handbook of Political Psychology and talk some more about the authoritarian personality by Adono. Adono was the first to describe the authoritarian character. At the heart of it, he said, lies a preference for autocratic rule and anti-democratic attitudes. He also created a self-report measure, the F scale. What does the F stand for? You got it, fascism. Keep in mind the historical context. See my previous video on that. The scale consists of nine items. One, conventionalism and adherence to middle class values. Two, submission to perceived to be legitimate authority figures. Three, aggression towards those who violate conventional values and norms. Four, anti-inception or opposition to the subjective, the imaginative, the tender-minded. Five, superstition and classification of the world into rigid categories. Six, a preoccupation with power and toughness.
Seven, a cynical, often destructive worldview. Eight, projection through the belief that the world is a dangerous and threatening place. And nine, this is interesting, an exaggerated concern with sexual goingings on. There were a few criticisms of that scale. The first one is one that persists to this day, and that's where the authoritarianism is an exclusively right-wing phenomenon. Some studies suggest that it might not be.
The second one, and this is one that I find very concerning, that is that it was based very heavily on psychonamic theories. We've come a long way since then. We now use a different measure to assess authoritarianism in people.
That's going to be in my next video.
