Recent Gallup polls indicate that Americans are increasingly embracing traditional moral values, with 83% believing society is moving in the wrong direction morally and two-thirds viewing religion positively; specifically, Americans consider eight behaviors morally wrong (teen sex, extramarital affairs, cloning humans, polygamy, suicide, cloning animals, pornography, and gender change), with five related to sexuality and two to cheating, suggesting a potential moral tipping point where traditional values are regaining prominence.

Catholic League Report: Are We At A Moral Tipping Point
Added:I am Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, and joining me today is Mike McDonald, our director of communications. We're going to talk about some three Gallup polls that came out, all with the same theme of morality in America.
>> Yeah, so Bill, uh tentatively good news here. It looks like things are sort of tipping in the right direction.
Uh you know, morality swings back and forth. Uh you've got a really good piece up on our website. Uh you introduce it like in the '60s it was just sort of a free-for-all. Uh but we seem to be coming down from that and swinging back towards something. There's actually now eight things that Americans have It's a lot for >> [laughter] >> That's a lot considering everything that we've gone through in the last, you know, a couple of years. Eight things. I got the list here in front of me. Uh but Americans consider these to be morally wrong. Uh sex between teenagers, extramarital affairs, cloning humans, polygamy, suicide, cloning animals, pornography, and changing one's gender.
Their sex really. Like man, it's gender's made up. Uh but this seems to be positive. Uh can you go into this a little bit more?
>> Notice that [clears throat] of the eight, five of them deal with sexuality there. And you know, two of them deal with cheating. Uh extramarital affairs and polygamy. Now, I don't fault the people at Gallup for this, but I'm just simply saying to to the viewer, let's understand what's going on here. What do they have in common? Cheating. Who's the Who are the people most likely to object to cheating? It would be women. Okay?
They want their undivided attention and the love from the husband. And so, that's encouraging that you know, in in in this day and age where what we used to call it adultery, they call extramarital affairs. See, they even have to soften the language, which helps to contribute to the idea that it's not so bad. Uh they don't seem to get that, or maybe they do, which is why they do it. But uh that and polygamy, which fortunately has not been been catching on, because once you go down that road, then it affects the family. It's These These These behaviors don't never affect just the individual. The cheating man, uh the cheating woman, uh it affects the family as well and therefore the society. And then we have a few other examples like pornography, uh the dehumanizing effect usually on men.
Then you've also got the social problems attended with teen sex, okay?
Illegitimacy, abortion. They didn't mention that, but that's exactly what's driving this with with people's uh in their heads. And the other one, changing uh gender.
Now, I want to talk about that, but do you have some some You remember what we're going over here with this thing?
>> Yeah.
>> You want to say something about that with the whole idea of of flipping your sex?
>> Yeah, it it just can't happen. It can't happen and the the strange thing we're talking about this before we went on, I a lot of this stuff as we were just talked about in the last couple of years, this has been this total transgender >> Mania mania, really.
>> Uh and you just wonder how many of these uh people now that are waking up and realizing, "Hey, this might not be a good idea." had to go through this themselves or know somebody who went through this.
Uh that I I get right, experience is a great teacher. But for something this outlandish, this big to uh need to be disciplined by the the hard knocks of reality, uh it just seems really uh striking.
>> Well, and and and as they found out, Mike, in in the poll, uh it's liberal Democrats who have now made the switch.
Now, I know, welcome to the party, folks. Uh but but you know, those of us who believe in traditional moral values, uh we had enough common sense to know that the idea First of all, you can't change your sex. You're either XX or XY.
You can't change that, okay?
Uh women give birth, men do not, okay?
That that's that's God's design. It's it's designed by nature. So, finally they're realizing that the attempt to do so is self-destructive. What's happened to these young people, 80% of whom are young girls, by the way, tried to become a boy. So much for women's liberation, what that's accomplished. But, now they're coming to the realization, I wonder how many of these liberal Democrats are coming to the realization that this is wrong, morally wrong, to try and flip your your your your sex like you do the a light switch.
Is it because they know of particular cases of young girls who who who have gone through this kind of mutilation? We know from previous studies that indeed it's the well-educated people whose daughters are the most likely to do this. So, it's not the cop and fireman's daughter who wants to become a boy.
It's the well-educated people, the professorial people, and the CEO type people, the very liberal and open-minded people. They screwed up their young kid, and then the young kid went through this thing. Some of them want to go back and de-transition back. There's no money or sympathy for those people. But, at least these are somewhat encouraging signs.
>> Right, and things do seem to be uh picking up and gaining momentum uh more broadly outside of this poll. We're seeing a bit more of a religious revival in this country. So, a lot of things working in tandem here that seem to be pointing in the right direction.
>> Well, and Gallup came I came out with a poll on June 16th. That was the third in the series on on dealing with morality that I know of.
Uh and they claimed that two out of three Americans believe that religion is a positive sign. Only 22% are are negative, and they're almost all people who don't have any role for religion in their life. So, in other words, are people realizing something's wrong in America? 83% I think the figure was of of Americans say that what we're doing now is we're going down the wrong path uh morally speaking. So, there is a concern, you know, it's easy to say live and let live rhetorically.
What happens behaviorally when people start cheating on the spouse, when people start trying to change their sex, when people are engaged in destructive behaviors and pornography and the like, you see the deleterious effects. And that should be a wake-up call, but we shouldn't have to go through all this suffering in order to figure it out.
People who are grounded in traditional moral values of any faith, they know they know from their own teachings, and you should know from common sense that there are certain behaviors which are self-destructive and therefore socially destructive.
>> Absolutely.
>> All right, good discussion.
