In John 6, after Jesus fed the 5,000 and declared Himself the bread of life, many disciples left Him because they struggled with His challenging teaching about eternal life, demonstrating that true faith requires following Jesus even when His words correct us and challenge our expectations, rather than abandoning Him when truth becomes uncomfortable.

Did Jesus Ever Lose Followers? | Dude Spiritual Series | Armstrong JaisonAdded:
Did Jesus ever lose followers?
>> [music] >> That question may sound strange because we usually talk about Jesus drawing crowds, healing the sick, feeding thousands, and people gathering everywhere he went. But in John chapter 6, something shocking happens. Jesus had just fed the 5,000. The crowd was excited. They had seen a miracle. They had eaten the bread. They were ready to follow him as long as the blessing was flowing. But then Jesus began to teach them something deeper. He said in John 6:35, "I am the bread of life." He was showing them that the miracle was not the main point. The bread in their hands was temporary, but Jesus himself was eternal life.
>> [music] >> And as he continued teaching, some people became uncomfortable.
John 6:60 says, "On hearing it, many of his disciples said, 'This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?'"
They liked the miracle, but they struggled with the message. They enjoyed the bread, but they resisted the truth.
And then in verse 66, it says, "From this time, many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him."
That is one of the saddest verses in the gospels. Jesus did not lose the followers because he failed. He lost followers because he told the truth.
Sometimes we wanted Jesus who feeds us, heals us, comforts us, blesses us, and answers our prayers. And yes, Jesus is compassionate. He is merciful. He is provider, healer, savior, but he is also Lord. And Lord means he has authority over our life. The real test of faith is whether we can still follow him when his word corrects us. Will we follow him when he says, "Forgive"? Will we follow him when he says, "Repent"? Will we follow him when he says, "Love your enemies." Will we follow him when he says, "Deny yourself." Will we follow him when he does not answer the way we expect it?
After many people left, Jesus turned to the 12 and asked in John 6:67, "You do not want to leave, too, do you?"
And Peter answered in verse 68, "Lord, >> [music] >> to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." Crowds may leave, feelings may change, seasons may get hard, but Jesus still has the words of eternal life. So, let's not be followers who disappear when truth gets uncomfortable.
Let's be the disciples who say, "Lord, even when I do not understand everything, I know there is nowhere better to go than you." God bless you.
