Jeremiah was thrown into a dungeon not as punishment for pride, but as a result of his faithful prophetic ministry; he was imprisoned because he delivered unpopular prophecies warning that Jerusalem would fall to Babylon and that those who surrendered would survive, which the officials and King Zedekiah viewed as treasonous, yet God ultimately rescued him, demonstrating that faithful believers may face persecution but God provides deliverance.

Why was Jeremiah thrown into a dungeon?Added:
Today, I will answer to a question someone asked in the comment sections, and that was was Jeremiah thrown into a dungeon as a test or as a punishment for pride or something? Now, let's look in the scripture and then we will see why he was thrown into a dungeon because that was actually what I was talking about in that video about the cousins.
So, here we are first in Jeremiah chapter 15 from verse 10 onwards. This is the NLT translation.
Then I said, "What sorrow is mine, my mother. Oh, that I had died at birth. I am hated everywhere I go. I am neither a lender who threatens to foreclose nor a borrower who refuses to pay.
Yet, they all curse me."
The Lord Yahweh replied, "I will take care of you, Jeremiah.
Your enemies will ask you to plead on their behalf in times of trouble and distress.
Can a man break a bar of iron from the north or a bar of bronze?
At no cost to them, I will hand over your wealth and treasures as plunder to your enemies.
For sin runs rampant in your land. I will tell your enemies to take you as captives to a foreign land for my anger [snorts] blazes like a fire that will burn forever."
Then I said, so this is Jeremiah speaking again.
"Lord Yahweh, you know what's happening to me.
Please step in and help me.
Punish my persecutors. Please give me time. Don't let me die young. It's for your sake that I am suffering.
When I discovered your words, I devoured them.
They are my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of heaven's armies, which is Yahweh Sabaoth.
I never joined the people in their merry feasts. I sat alone because your hand was on me. I was filled with indignation at their sins.
Why then does my suffering continue?
Why is my wound wound so incurable? So here we see Jeremiah was suffering and persecuted because he was standing for the Lord, for Yahweh.
>> [snorts] >> And he's pleading with him.
Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry. This is how Yahweh responds. If you return to me, I will restore you, so you can continue to serve me.
>> [snorts] >> If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman.
You must influence them. Do not let them influence you.
They will fight against you like an attacking army, but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze.
They will not conquer you, for I am with you to protect and rescue you. I, Yahweh, have spoken. Yes, I will certainly keep you safe from these wicked men. I will rescue you from their cruel hands. So we see, of course, Jeremiah could be influenced by them because he was just a human with uh like weaknesses as we are, but this the did not mean that just because he reacted that way now that was a cause for him to be thrown into a dungeon in the in the eyes of the Lord. But [snorts] let's go to Jeremiah chapter 38 because here we are reading that is the chapter where Jeremiah was thrown into the dungeon.
>> [snorts and clears throat] >> In this uh Bible it says cistern.
So, I'm not sure how to pronounce the the names, but I will just read them the way I can do it best.
Uh now, Shephatiah, son of Mattan, Gedaliah, son of Pashhur, Jehucal, son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur, son of Malchiah, heard what Jeremiah had been telling the people.
He had been saying, "This is what the Lord Yahweh says. Everyone who stays in Jerusalem will die from war, famine, or disease, but those who surrender to the Babylonians will live.
Their reward will be life. They will live."
Yahweh also says, "The city of Jerusalem will certainly be handed over to the army of the king of Babylon, who will capture it."
So, these officials went to the king and said, "Sir, this man must die. That kind of talk will undermine the mora- moral of the few fighting men we have left, as well as that of all the people. This man is a traitor."
>> [snorts] >> King Zedekiah agreed. "All right," he said, "do as you like. I can't stop you."
So, the officials took Jeremiah from his cell and lowered him by ropes into an empty cistern in the prison yard.
It belonged to Malchiah, a member of the royal family.
There was no water in the cistern, but there was a thick layer of mud at the bottom, and Jeremiah sank down into it.
So, that was just until this point where we see that Jeremiah was actually thrown into the dungeon because he was just uh preaching the words of Yahweh and the words did not sound pleasing to the king and the other people there and so because they did not want to repent, they did not did not want to realize that there's wickedness in their heart that they have to turn from.
They did throw him in the dungeon.
That's what they did.
But when we continue reading Yahweh did pull him back out again or he did send someone who helped him to be What's the English word?
Thrown out thrown out of it again pulled out.
Yeah.
Just to answer your question here.
That was the reason and this is still the reason why followers of Yeshua are thrown into spiritual dungeons at times.
But a very very complex topic. I could talk more about.
So Yahweh is enabling me and uh when the time is right.
So may you be blessed by this message and get more insight and anointing through the Holy Spirit.
Shalom.
