When selecting batteries for custom motorcycles, lithium batteries offer significant advantages including lighter weight (2.25 lbs vs 16 lbs), superior cold weather performance (maintaining 360 cranking amps at 0°F compared to lead acid's 250 amps at 40°F), and flexible mounting options, but they come at a higher cost ($250 vs $30-70) and are not recommended for cold weather riding applications.

This Tiny Battery Might Be a HUGE Mistake…Added:
batteries. The battery. We are finally installing the battery on the flat tracker. It's been a long time coming.
Just like the rest of the parts, long time coming for all the stuff. Trying to rework, massage everything so it buckles together. Not really fold together, it just buckles together because I have to force some stuff. And particularly this battery luckily has a spot already designed for this. It's a very small rectangular square spot. We got 3 in 3 and 1/2 in here. We got about 4 in length. Then I was about to say width width length there. So about 4 in and 3 in is all we get to work with on that area. And the height of this is right around 3 and 1/4 to 3 and 1/2. Get the measurements finally up there. But I know that this battery is going to fit cuz I already measured it. I'm good to go on that side. But if you want to know the differences between using a lithium battery and a lead acid battery. So our anti-gravity lithium battery, there's two parts of that. So anti-gravity and lithium into it. The anti-gravity lithium goes off of cranking amps. That one is wherever it's at. 360 amps on here. And our lead acid runs off of coal cranking amps or I should say tested wise coal cranking amps and has a cranking amp of right around 250 and a coal cranking of 240.
The reason why is cuz this battery is tested at 0° for the maximum capability of getting the most amount of crank amps before it starts to fall off. The other one only really has 360 crank amps because it falls off as soon as it gets pretty much cold out. at like 40 degrees it starts to just pretty much fall on its face. One is great for what we're doing in stripped down hot rodded and bare bones. And the other one is great for longevity rotting all the time. The workhorse battery. So two different applications. Just because one is lighter and you can mount it every which way you want doesn't mean it's better.
It is great for our application because we can mount it any which way we want.
Upside down, sideways, whichever. We throw it across. It's great to have for that moment of time of what we're looking for and it is super light. So, that one's at 2.25 pounds and the other one is at 16 lb. Okay. They also make this in a lithium batteries in the same weight to match the cold cranking amps if you want to go with straight lithium.
The other one also has just a different technology. We're not going to go into that, but different technology to make it so small and little and so grateful.
And that's why this one is where it's at. positive, negative are also directly in the middle. You know, you can go which way, so you don't have to worry about left or right, reverse terminals or any of that good stuff. So, that's why we're using the lithium battery and a little more of the specs. If you want to go further into it, maybe we'll do a breakdown video of all three different types, the lithium, the lead acid, anti-gravity, and lithium battery as well. If you want to know the differences, there is also a quite a bit of price difference there, too. You got like a $250 battery as compared to like a $70 battery. Even cheaper is down to $30 depending on where you where you're going to buy it. If it's lead acid, it's even cheaper. Seen as low as 30 bucks.
But huge difference. Different applications. This does not fit all. And if you plan on riding in cold weather, don't go this way. Uh hoping this all just, you know, it's all just going to blend together. That's just it's what's going to happen. We're just going to get it to blend. Just work. Just going to [ __ ] work. All right, let's get it done. Our battery box. Once again, we have 3 in in length, 4 in in width, and 3 in in height to work with this battery.
Should plop whichever way we want.
Just like that. Right in. Perfect fit.
Okay. But there's no battery strap.
There's nothing really to work with. So, we're going to finagle that. We got to figure out a way. We're going to kind of get it to where it's snug. And I'll get down to maybe another adaption piece about how we're going to get it to not wiggle around. There's going to be a lot of vibrations and we don't want that getting too loose and getting that wire, you know, buted up against anything and causing a good old fire. Let's figure that out. Okay, so I have this foam here. It's that tape sided foam pretty much used for seals, windows, cars, all that good stuff. We're going to use that to wrap down on the bottom here to get us rolling on some kind of padding.
We'll see how this works. First, I got different sizing and all that good stuff, but I want to see where we're going to land this here. Should be good.
Yeah. Okay.
So, we'll try to see if we can get that in one strip.
Let's drop our battery in here.
Oh yeah, that's going to work perfectly.
Okay, I'm going to see you guys in a minute. I'm going to line this up with a couple more strips and we'll uh we'll resume here. Okay, fully foamed, encased. Let's see if this works.
Hopefully should have just the right sleeve amount.
Oh yeah. Look at that.
Bam.
Right there.
There is zero movement and we are rock solid right there. See you have a Oh yeah, that's going to be a tight squeeze to pull out. We'll buy that another time. So that works. So our new negative cable. Now I didn't make these. You can buy these directly. All different lengths and sizes. But this will be an 18in one. And we're going to put right on the front. Normally, this is mounted on the back, but for now, we're going to put it here. So, I believe this should be a good spot. I don't see why not. And we'll put our other wire ground here.
That's good to go. And we're going to fish it up through frame here.
Should have just enough length. Yep. Up to go here. Perfect. So, we'll get to that part a little bit later. Do the positive side. And our new cable comes with some heat shrink. I don't know if I'm going to keep it or not, but for the time being, we'll heat this up so it stays on this side here.
And now we'll get this laced through here and get our starter cable as well tied in now.
All right, good there. And the last step, we just got to get our cables now onto the battery supplied with our fresh bolts.
And now our negative.
All right, we got it. The entire wire harness is on the bike. We have our starter relay and our 30 amp fuse. I figure out we're going to mount that.
It's going to sit underneath the seat at somehow. It's just big enough to hide.
So, I'm not worried about that part.
Maybe I'll zip tie it somewhere or figure out how I'm going to mount it.
But the 30 amp fuse, if you're wondering where that's at, that's right there next to the starter relay. All tucked away underneath some heat shrink. So, that's safe. Just got to do a couple last touches and this bike is ready to roll over. Not putting the gas tank on. We're going to be doing like a uh IV bag, gas, and all that stuff. So, when we get to it, so I can test run the motor to make sure that it is good to go. Figure out where all of our uh gremlins are hiding away on this to be able to get this actually up and running. and actually drive on the streets. So, we're getting close. It's coming there. It's been a long way. And for now, that'll wrap me in this one.
