The Indian judiciary consists of the Supreme Court and High Courts, with the Supreme Court established under Article 124 of the Constitution, serving as the guardian of the Constitution and a court of record under Article 129. Supreme Court judges retire at 65 years, while High Court judges retire at 62 years. The Collegium System is used for the appointment of judges, and judicial review is a fundamental power under Article 13. The first Chief Justice of India was H. J. Kania, and P. N. Bhagwati is recognized as the father of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in India. There are 25 High Courts in India.
