Holiness in Christian life is measured by actions, virtues, kindness, love, and peace, not by external expressions of seriousness or complexity; true holiness comes from the heart and should be simple, joyful, and accessible to others, as exemplified by St. Philip Neri, who attracted people through his humor, kindness, and genuine service rather than through complicated religious practices.

26-05-2026 | CAPUCHIN TV LIVE | MEMORIAL: ST. PHILIP NERI, PRIESTAñadido:
[singing] [singing] [singing] [singing] >> As we bring our personal intentions in this mass, we pray for Mary and Katha Kimathi.
May God grant her his healing grace, increase her faith, and also grant her hope.
Today we are celebrating or we have the memorial of all saints Philip Neri, who was a priest.
The name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
The Lord be with you.
To prepare ourselves to offer the sacrifice, let us call to mind our sins.
I confess to almighty God, and to my brothers and sisters, that I greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words, in what I've done and what I've failed to do.
Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault.
Therefore, I ask blessed Mary, ever virgin, all the angels and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Let us pray.
Oh God, who never ceases to bestow the glory of holiness on the faithful servants you raise up for yourself, graciously grant that the Holy Spirit may kindle in us that fire with which he wonderfully filled the heart of St. Philip Neri.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
A reading from from the first letter of St. Peter.
Beloved, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about the salvation of souls.
They inquired what person or time was indicated by the spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subject and subsequent glory.
It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.
Things into which angels long to look.
Therefore, gird up your minds, be sober, set set your hope fully upon the grace that is come to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as who called you is holy.
Be holy yourselves in all your conduct, since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
The word of the Lord.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
Oh, sing a new song to the Lord, for he has worked wonders.
His right hand and his holy arm have brought salvation.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
He has assured his deliverance to the nations.
He has remembered his mercy and love and his truth for the house of Israel.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
All the ends of the heart have seen the salvation of our God.
Shout to the Lord, all the earth.
Break forth into joyous song and sing out your praise.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
Hallelujah. hallelujah, hallelujah.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, [singing] hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have revealed to the little ones the mysteries of the kingdom.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, >> [singing] >> hallelujah.
The Lord be with you.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark.
At that time, Peter began to say to Jesus, "Behold, we have left everything and followed you."
Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the gospel who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands with persecutions.
And in the age to come, eternal life.
But many that are first will be last and the last first.
The Gospel of the Lord.
God is good.
We may begin by reflecting on the life of Saint Philip Neri. In a summary, uh Philip Neri was born in 1515 in Italy.
And then he went to of course when he was young.
He was very joyful child.
And also very kind.
And he was full of humor still when he was still young.
And people used to refer him as a as a saint even when he was young.
Because of that joy he was a very joyful man.
And kind and I say was very humorous.
And now he when he attained the age he went to school and then he went to Rome and then studied philosophy and theology.
But then he won't to advance. And so he went to serve the people taking care of the sick and doing many other things serving people in different ways.
So later he decided to to to now become a priest. And he he became a priest in 1551.
But he is known of his humility, as I say again.
And also, he was a very joyful man.
A very joyful man, a very kind he had a lot of humor.
And through that, he used to attract many people.
Many people, and then you know, give them hope through talks and all that, sacrament of confession.
And he he he lived that, you know, a very sober life. You know, a balanced life.
Which all of us we are called to.
Christianity I always believe is about enjoying what you are doing.
So, it's the best form of life.
So, never complicate.
Never complicate Christianity, it's very simple.
The same way we always say, don't complicate faith.
It is very very simple.
The moment you find yourself you know, struggling to do the things you are supposed to do as a Christian, you know, there there is there is whatever you are doing if it is not coming from your heart. So, don't force it. If you truly you are Christian, it comes just like that.
Always kind, always loving, always peaceful. You don't strain.
Because it is coming from you. You know, don't force it. If you force it, that is where we enter into into hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy. And you cannot pretend forever or for long.
So, don't wear a mask.
Don't wear a mask, you know, struggle.
You know. Let it come just like that.
It's a gift.
It's a gift that God gives us.
So, if you find yourself straining, you pray about it.
Because it is not in you.
Maybe the Holy Spirit is not at work.
So St. Philip Neri was a very joyful man. So we need to enjoy our faith as a Christian. Always always be happy. And also he was a very holy man. Not very but he was a holy man.
And because he knew that he used to to to create humor so that he may not maybe dispel people, maybe make people feel uncomfortable near him.
At times at times of course you always say holiness is about actions.
It's not about external expressions.
It's about actions, good good actions, virtues, that kindness, that love, that peace, giving others. That is that is so that is how holiness is is measured.
So he was just like that. So don't don't complicate.
At times we think we think by you know putting on stone face because you are seriously praying and we we are we are serious Christians it will show that we are holy. You know at times you make people run away.
You know, make people run away.
But as I as I say again holiness is about actions. So like like St. Philip Neri always be you know be free. Be free.
That's the only way you can attract others.
Attract others. If I see you very serious when you are praying and your devotions I may not be I may not be attracted.
You know, it's a burden and I will see it's a burden.
Remember the Pharisees, that is how they used to at times do.
You complicate like it to complicate to make it hard. Even people are afraid to come near you.
Because you are too serious.
They praying, you know, So, if I see you like that, me me I can't come near. So, you won't attract anyone.
So, you end up being alone.
You know, with your devotions.
With your dramas.
So, be simple. It's very the only way you can, you know, even make people if you will pray the rosary, you are devoted.
You know, let there be you know, that joy. You know, fun when you are when you are praying. You will see your children coming.
To join you.
Your husband, your wife to join you in prayer. But if you complicate everything there, we we we we cannot. We won't. So, never do that. That is that is not the measure of holiness.
Sorry, I'm challenging you on that.
So, don't think that is the way. So, we need to make it simple and very soft and very cool.
So, don't complicate. Don't complicate.
It is it is very simple. So, I say again, it's it manifested in action.
You know, if you love God, it can be seen when you go out there and serve others with a good heart, with a clean heart.
So, we we need to do that. So, when you go there, many people would like to to to come and join you and go where you go because you and go where you go because I think there is such joy in you. Wherever you go, when you go back, they will tell you I will join you tomorrow because even when you come, you make life easy. You know, it is very easy. In our gospel, it is was after after Jesus challenged this young rich man, "Go sell what you have and give it to the to the poor. I have been following commandments, doing everything, but go sell what you have and give it give them to the poor." And he went away sad. Now Now Peter, after that, now he asked Jesus cuz honestly, "We have left everything. Now, what is our reward?"
But Jesus assures them, "Whoever has left everything, you know, the family, lands, everything, he will be repaid a hundredfold here in this life and then eternal life.
You'll get You'll receive eternal life."
It applies to all of us, all of us.
So, our Christian life is about detaching ourselves.
Detachment means you may have, you know, let's say material things, but your heart is not in those things. You can share, you know, with those who do not have.
You know, you you have the power, the energy. You know, it's not about yourself. It's also about others, sharing, that sharing, that sharing.
So, you sacrifice what you have for the sake of your brothers others.
And you will never lack. And that is a living theology. I always say that. If you share what you have, you will never lack. God will always add you more and more and more and make you a distributor. So, in that, he is adding you through that he's adding you everything that you need, a hundredfold.
So, you will never lack. And you are sure after that because of your good deeds and taking care of those who are in need, you know, helping your brothers and sisters, serving those people you encounter in your workplace with a smile, with a good heart. You know, he will always, you know, grant you everything, peace of mind and heart, good health, uh you know, that is what you mean. And then you are sure after that because you will have eternal life because you served him well. So, any any sacrifice that you make uh does not go unnoticed. There is a reward. But uh don't do anything to be rewarded, eh?
Even when you are doing good actions, eh? Let your right hand uh not know what your left hand is is is doing. So, don't do anything for to be rewarded uh by God or by people. Do it because it comes from from you. That is your nature, doing good. And do it with a lot of joy. And that's how how you you you are blessed each and every day. And God delivers you from many many many challenges that may come on your way.
So, like Philip Neri, let us serve God with a lot of joy, reaching out to the poor, those who are in need, and with a lot of humanity.
And when you do that, God will always bless us, make us multiply, once and grow.
And that is the beauty of life.
If you do that, you always enjoy everything you are doing. And you'll be satisfied.
You know, when you go back at home, when you are sleeping, you'll sleep on a pillow of clear conscience. You're with a smile.
Like a child, like a child with a smile because you have done it. You've done it well. You have represented Christ. You have done everything from the from the heart. You have not wounded anyone, but you have no brought life to many through your words, through your actions big or small. And that is the most important thing. So, let us pray that God may guide us when you go there.
That is what we need to go and express.
That joy in serving God with a lot of humility and let go there through our way of life attract as many as we can. So, may the Holy Spirit always guide us and may his graces be upon us. And may St. Philip Neri pray for us.

Kutoa ni moyo wala >> [singing] [singing] [music] [singing] >> Pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God the almighty father.
As we offer you the sacrifice of praise oh Lord, we ask that by the example of St. Philip, we may always give ourselves cheerfully for the glory of your name and the service of our neighbor through Christ our Lord.
The Lord be with you.
Lift up your hearts.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks. Lord holy father almighty and eternal God through Christ our Lord.
For in the marvelous confession of your saints, you make your church fruitful with strength ever new and over us sure signs of your love. And that your saving mysteries may be fulfilled, their great example is us courage. Their fervent prayers sustain us in all we do. And so Lord with all the angels and saints we eat to give you thanks. As in exaltation we acclaim.
holy, holy, holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
>> [clears throat] >> You are indeed holy, Lord, the fount of all holiness.
Make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed and entered willingly to his passion, he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, "Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my body which will be given up for you."
In a similar way, when supper was ended, he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying, "Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of my blood, the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me."
The mystery of faith when we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim your death, oh Lord, until you come again.
Therefore, as we celebrate the memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Lord, the bread of life and the chalice of salvation, giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you. Humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of Christ, may we gather into one by the Holy Spirit. And remember Lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with Leo Pope, Philip our bishop, David and Obed his auxiliaries and all the class.
Remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face. Have mercy on us all we pray that we the Blessed Virgin Mary mother of God our spouse Joseph, with the Blessed Apostles and all the saints who are pleasing throughout the ages may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life, may praise and glorify you through your son Jesus Christ.
Through him and with him and in him, oh God almighty Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.
At the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not to temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us Lord we pray from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy may we always be free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus Christ who said to your apostles peace I leave you, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant us peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign forever and ever.
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
Lamb of God, Behold the Lamb of God. Behold he who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I'm not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
