11th Airborne Historian on Fox News' The Big Weekend ShowAdded:
Freedom 250 is honoring Memorial Day with two events at the National Memorial Day parade in DC and the Arlington National Cemetery. As we remember our fallen heroes, Fox Nation is out with a brand new special called Saved by Angels, World War II's most daring rescue, and it features firstirhand accounts of a 1945 rescue mission by the Army's 11th Airborne Division that saved over 2,000 people from Japanese captivity.
All of a sudden, I see these planes coming in, nine of them. Three, three, three. The doors are open on the side and out comes bundles. And what's the first thing I yell? They're dropping food to us. All of a sudden, there's the food bundles. I realized I have arms and legs.
>> We saw these angels coming out of the heavens. And we couldn't believe what we saw.
>> And about that time, all hell breaks loose, shooting all around the camp.
Joining us now is Jeremy Holm, an 11th Airborne Division historian. And it's so great to have you. You know, this is the greatest generation. And I think that young people, especially Gen Z and younger, a lot of them are not learning about our history. They're not learning about World War II. They're not learning about these heroes. And I'm I'm hopeful that they will sit down and they will watch this Fox Nation special because I think they can learn a lot about resilience and tenacity. But can you tell us a little bit more about this special? And as a historian, some of the interesting things that even the young folks today that are addicted to the tick-talkie could learn from this.
>> Absolutely. You know, working on this project with the Fox team was amazing.
But even stepping back further, meeting with these angels who I had the opportunity to interview, they were the greatest generation. And the things they did, I think it's very easy for the younger generation today to take for granted because they seem so long ago.
But the freedoms we enjoy today are because of what they did. So honestly, this is incredibly more entertaining than any game or any Tik Tok video you might see. This is going to show you the day that America stood tall.
>> Jeremy, it's Alicia Akuna here. Thank you for being here. You know, we're coming up on Memorial Day and there are people are going to be going to barbecues and such, but really for Memorial Day, this seems like some like people could sit and watch this, have an appreciation for those who have served our country and also Tommy brought up the younger folks. Now, these you're talking about people who were very young at that time also.
>> Absolutely. You know, when I go speak at high schools across the country, some of these students are shocked when I tell them that these soldiers who participated in this raid were were their age. They they were high schoolers who were willing to step up and sign the dotted line to go defend our freedoms.
So, it really puts history in their shoes and it puts the students in touch with these American legends.
>> Yeah, I love it. Jeremy Holm, I thank you so much for joining us tonight. I know that you give so much insight in this special on Fox Nation and I really hope that folks go and watch it. I hope young people watch it and I also hope that young people that are lucky enough to have grandparents that are still alive will take the time to hear some of their stories whether it be from the war or just from life uh because I think it's incredibly informative. So, thank you so much for your time and for your part in this incredible special on Fox Nation.
>> Thank you very much. Happy to help.
