The genuine bewilderment of the hosts proves that the anarchic subversion of *The Young Ones* remains an untamable beast, even in the age of curated digital reactions. It is a fascinating study of how 80s British radicalism continues to defy modern cultural domestication.

They Threw the Most INTERESTING Party Ever! | Americans React to The Young Ones S1E5
Added:Hey guys, welcome back to the channel.
My name is Stephen accompanied by Queen Taylor.
>> Today we are back for some more of The Young Ones and we are on series 1 episode 5 5 episode 5. Interesting. The last episode was boring and it was anything but so I'm anxious to see if this episode's going to be boring now. Just to be the polar opposites.
>> This one's interesting. Super boring. Um we're episode 5 in The Young Ones and we have one more episode before the series 1 is done.
>> And then we're halfway done already.
>> And we're halfway done.
>> That's wild.
Yeah.
>> Um The Young Ones has been spectacular.
It's been an experience.
>> It's definitely an experience.
>> It's an experience cuz I didn't know that you guys were able to produce such chaos and [laughter] anarchy.
Uh but leave it to Rik Mayall uh to come up with something so bizarre.
>> Yeah.
>> And again, this whole show has been I don't I don't I don't know how to describe it.
Chaos personified.
But we'll hold my thoughts to the end of the series. You guys let's hop on over and let's check out episode 5.
>> Interesting.
>> [music] [singing] [music] [music] [clears throat] >> Come on, Neil. Come on. Stick it on top of the fridge. Hurry up.
Michael will be here in a minute. NO, WRONG DIRECTION. HERE, FRIDGE. FRIDGE.
JUST stick it up on the top. [laughter] Up on the top. STICK IT UP THERE.
OH, TERRIFIC.
>> HOLD BACK, IT'S COMING OFF.
>> YES, I NOTICED. YES.
>> [laughter] >> THAT'S MICHAEL'S TELEVISION.
>> [laughter] [laughter] >> WHAT'S LENTILS?
>> WELL, what do you think, Mike?
Pretty tidy, eh?
Not a bad job.
Seeing as how it took 16 hours of continuous hard labor without a break and without much help from certain people who will remain nameless, i.e. Vivian and Neil.
>> I resent that, Viv.
>> Oh, shut up, NEIL. YOU NEVER STOP TALKING, DO YOU? THAT'S WHAT'S GOTTEN IN THE WAY OF ALL THE WORK this afternoon.
>> All right. All right. It's not bad. Not bad at all.
All right.
All right.
>> I wish I didn't see this and I I'm not sure if I want to point it out.
>> What? Let me see.
>> I was just looking at Rick's outfit.
>> Yeah.
You looking at his dick?
>> He's got a little bit of camel toe going on.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, damn it.
>> I didn't I wasn't trying to. I was like, those are some very yellow >> overalls.
>> overalls. No, I was looking at his butt.
>> Shut up, Neil. You never stop talking, do you? THAT'S WHAT'S GOTTEN IN THE WAY of all the work this afternoon.
>> All right. All right. All right. It's not bad. Not bad at all.
>> Not bad.
>> All right.
All right.
>> What's that on the carpet?
>> Uh yeah, that's Vivian's job. Like that and making the punch. You said like he's only got to do two jobs cuz he hasn't got many friends, you know.
>> [laughter] >> What you on about, Neil? He's got loads of friends.
>> Oh, yes, but apparently he doesn't like any of them.
>> Ah.
>> Is that why you haven't done anything all afternoon, Neil? Cuz you haven't got any friends, either.
>> That's not true, Rick. You know I've got a friend.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yes, really. And actually, he's going to be here very, very soon.
>> Well, he better get a move on if he doesn't want to miss the party. We're talking about 15 MINUTES AND COUNTING.
>> 15 MINUTES? LOOK, THIS IS VIVIAN'S JOB.
WE'RE NEVER GOING TO BE READY IN TIME.
>> I'm right here.
>> What?
>> I thought the vacuum cleaner looked a bit ON THE TENTATIVE SIDE, SO I'LL SUIT YOU UP A BIT.
>> VERY GOOD, VIVIAN.
>> [laughter] >> That's very good, very bad.
>> Depends how you look AT IT, I SUPPOSE.
NOT SO GOOD IF YOU'RE A BIT OF A DOCTOR.
BUT THEN AGAIN, WHO IS?
IT'S NOT VERY GOOD.
>> THAT WOULD SEEM THE ONLY WAY IT COULD be very bad.
>> Depends how you look at it, I SUPPOSE.
NOT SO GOOD >> THERE'S SOMETHING OVER HERE. SO, every single episode, like I'm now searching for the uh ring girl.
>> For the fifth roommate?
>> For the fifth roommate.
>> Yeah, I haven't seen her in all the episodes. And I noticed that somebody was like, "Did you have you seen the fifth roommate?" And I'm like, "Well, we did immediately."
>> It's the the Hills Have It's not the Hills Have It's the Grudge girl.
>> The Grudge. Is it the Ring or the Grudge? I always get those two mixed up.
>> Where she's just like with her hair.
And so now I'm like, it's it's like Where's Waldo?
>> I don't remember seeing her in the last episode, though.
>> I Yeah, I wasn't paying attention. So, I like I I keep missing >> So, now you're looking for her?
>> Now I'm looking, cuz I knew I didn't see her in the last one.
>> Yeah. Is she in every single episode?
>> Let us know down in the comments. But like, look over here by the staircase.
Tell me if you don't see something moving over there.
>> IF YOU'RE A BIT OF A DOCTOR.
>> OH, YEAH.
OH, YEAH.
>> THAT WOULD SEEM THE ONLY reasonable course.
>> Is that the fifth roommate?
>> If you're a bit of a doctor.
BUT THEN AGAIN, WHO IS?
IT'S NOT VERY GOOD. THAT WOULD SEEM THE ONLY REASONABLE COURSE.
>> OH, SHE'S RIGHT THERE.
HOLY [ __ ] [laughter] BALLS.
HOLY [ __ ] >> That's funny.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, she's right I looked at her a split [laughter] second scared to [ __ ] [clears throat] >> right there in the chair.
>> I'm over here looking in the office over here.
>> This tiny little thing. I know in that one episode where I was like, "What is that thing moving in the corner?" I don't know if it's just like mess-ups from shooting show. It's like a a mic or something like that or it's like you're not supposed to see it. We're like looking off in the black distance of this hallway and she's like, "You guys I'm literally right here." [laughter] You're looking too hard.
That's so funny.
>> I'll point her out. [laughter] >> I got to get her legs.
SHE'S NOT DOING ANYTHING.
>> THAT WOULD SEEM the only reasonable course.
>> What the [ __ ] >> THAT'S ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.
YOU CAN'T GET ANY CLEANER THAN THAT.
>> [laughter] >> YOU'VE DESTROYED A LARGE SECTION OF THE FLOOR. CLEAN IT, MICHAEL. CLEAN IT.
>> We quibble over terms. Suffice it to say that that cleaner is one hell of a sucker and I don't mean it's easily fooled.
>> Yeah. CERTAINLY CAN SUCK.
STOP IT, MICHAEL. STOP IT.
>> SHE'S JUST STOPPED ALREADY. THE BAG MUST BE FULL.
>> [laughter] >> I'VE GOT TO STOP.
I'D BETTER EMPTY IT.
>> HELLO. [laughter] NEIL. NICE ONE, MATE.
>> [laughter] >> GLASTONBURY, how are you, mate?
>> Well, I've just been sucked up by a ride-away vacuum cleaner and then SOMEONE TRIED TO KNIFE ME, BUT APART FROM THAT, really terrible, actually.
>> Bummer.
>> Yeah, big bummer. Haven't you got any decent food?
>> Now, who is this? What are you doing?
>> Oh, what is this? Neil, Neil, look, just please don't bring him down.
>> hippie, isn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> Did you hear?
>> For heaven's sake, this isn't a youth hostel, you know.
>> Neil, my barely adequate psychic DEFENSES ARE CRUMBLING.
>> LOOK, JUST TELL HIM TO GET OUT, FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE.
>> THIS IS WORSE THAN MY BIRTHDAY.
>> YOU LOOKING FOR ME? HEY, [laughter] big brother.
>> I'm looking for some action.
A dime for coffee would save my life.
You want to drink with me? It helps you for forget.
>> [laughter] >> Those are the best moments.
>> Yeah, they are.
>> It has lips.
>> I've been picked [music] up >> It's got teeth.
>> so many times gone by.
They grill you for an hour and they say [music] you're going to fry.
I've been skinned alive [music] and purified [singing] and cut up with a knife.
Oh, I've just [music] got to catch up with my life.
>> [laughter] >> I've got to catch up.
That's good.
>> Where is he?
>> He's probably gone off to find a shop to get some decent [laughter] food, Neil.
>> He's a bloody stickler for >> word for it, your friend can be >> No, I haven't.
>> The bean bag is the domestic equivalent of a black hole. You are not to use it.
>> Yeah, but Mike >> You are not to USE IT.
>> TOUGH.
>> [laughter] [laughter] >> HOW WAS IT FOR YOU, DARLING?
>> Oh my god, [ __ ] YEAH.
>> [laughter] >> HOLD ON, YOU'RE pulling me, too. Are you getting them?
>> Yeah.
>> [laughter] [snorts] >> Can you hold on to that?
>> Yeah.
>> [laughter] [laughter] >> That wasn't for you, darling.
>> You electric.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, it's so good.
>> Don't eat the corn flakes, wait there's only one.
>> EVERYONE REPENT EXCEPT JESUS.
I don't mean everyone except Jesus repent. I mean accept Jesus into your life and repent at the SAME TIME.
>> [laughter] >> HAVE YOU SAID YES, CHIPPY?
CHIPPY?
>> OH, WELL, I do a lot of yoga.
>> Come brother, let us pray together.
>> [laughter] >> LOOK, DO YOU MIND GOING?
I MEAN, I EXPECT IF WE'D WANTED YOU TO COME IN, WE MIGHT HAVE SAID SOMETHING LIKE, "OH, HI CHRISTIAN, WHY DON'T YOU COME IN?"
BUT I DIDN'T CHRISTIAN, SO WHY DON'T YOU JUST TAKE A RUNNING JUMP AT YOURSELF IN A LAKE?
>> NO, THANK YOU. I'm going to sit right down HERE UNTIL WE'VE ALL BEEN SAVED.
>> OH, NO. WELL, don't look at me, Neil.
I'M AN AGNOSTIC.
>> REPENT, REPENT FOR THE DAY OF JUDGMENT.
>> OH, NO.
DAY OF JUDGMENT? WHAT DO I GET A PRIZE?
>> [screaming] >> A LOCUST.
>> NO, I'M SUPPOSED TO BE AN ANGEL.
>> REPENT, REPENT.
>> ALL RIGHT, ALL RIGHT, I REPENT. HOW ABOUT YOU and me and the Holy Ghost going upstairs for a closer look at those MORAL UNDERPANTS, EH?
>> [laughter] >> THIS SHOULD GET THINGS GOING.
>> What is that?
>> [laughter] >> Oh, no.
>> BEHOLD THE BEAST.
>> [laughter] >> HELLO.
HELLO.
>> NOW IS the worrying time.
>> THIS IS WRONG.
>> WOAH.
>> [laughter] >> NOW IS THE WORRYING TIME.
>> THIS IS WRONG.
>> WOAH.
>> [laughter] >> I'M A KITTEN AND THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE.
>> I JUST WANT TO TAKE a second to really talk about like just my appreciation for all of these guys. But Nigel Planer is somebody that we is like very very new to us. He is so good at playing Neil. I think this would like his character would have to be the hardest one >> to >> to not be laughing and to be holding it together. Like that moment right there, woah. I would have they would have been like, this is our 50th take. You've got to hold it together. That's just he's just so good at being Neil.
>> you.
>> Yeah, they would have been like, you're done.
>> You're done.
>> We'll get anybody else.
>> [laughter] >> Famine, pestilence, death, and the other one.
The other one.
>> [laughter] >> Is that a seagull?
>> [laughter] >> Famine, is that seagull a seagull?
>> No, pestilence, it's a dog.
>> [laughter] >> A flying dog.
>> Or a catapult.
>> A flying catapult.
>> Oh, I'm famished.
>> So, what's new?
>> Microchip [laughter] technology.
>> What?
>> Microchip technology.
It's a new thing, isn't it?
>> [laughter] >> It's so boring just waiting for the apocalypse.
>> Well, except for that film.
>> What film?
>> Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
>> [laughter] >> Awful film.
>> Oh god, I'm bored.
>> [laughter] >> God, I'm bored.
>> No, no, no, just put it over there with the others in the pile.
>> [laughter] >> Sometimes, you know, God can be so unimaginative.
>> And he's worried about his son, isn't he?
>> What?
>> He's a born-again Christian.
>> [laughter] >> What game of trouble scrabble, Dave?
Dave?
What game of trouble scrabble?
>> [laughter] >> He's dead.
>> I'll be dead soon if I don't get something to eat.
>> How about a bloody sandwich?
I'm sitting this >> And I beheld a medium-sized group of people running around madly waving their hands and shrieking, "12 score oxen have spent over a year in the same field."
>> [applause] >> Is that a ham sandwich?
>> [laughter] >> WELL, THAT'S JUST TYPICAL.
>> [laughter] >> 5 MINUTES TO GO TO THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTY OF MY LIFE AND HALF THE HOUSE HAS BEEN WRECKED BY GIGANTIC SANDWICH.

>> And that was his dream. That's funny.
>> All right, you guys. One more episode left of season 1. What did you think of that episode, babe? Interesting.
>> It was interesting, yeah.
>> interesting.
>> I just don't even know. I I don't even know what other words to use for these episodes week after week. Just bizarre, interesting, weird. I mean, >> Have you seen my girlfriend? I made her a present. I just carved a pumpkin. That is my girlfriend.
>> [laughter] >> He He got at her, dude. She's dead.
>> a lot of I guess I don't want to say a lot, but you know how the kid was like, "I'm a beloved fictional character." or whatever. [laughter] And then there's like Cinderella. There was like >> And Santa.
>> bit through this. Santa, yeah. It's like, who Where are these people coming from?
>> [laughter] >> It was funny cuz it started out, you know, with the video being called interesting and then the party was actually very boring for a long time until everybody else got there and things got a little bit crazy, but >> Yeah.
>> Yeah, it was a It was interesting.
>> It's a banger. It was actually a banger.
>> Yeah, it was.
>> Man.
>> Can you imagine being at a party like that? I mean, one way or the other, you're sitting there and you're bored out of your mind. You're like, there's not even music.
This sucks. The guy who invited us to the party isn't letting us drink.
There's a weirdo that's like way too close to my face.
And then all of a sudden it's just pure chaos and everyone's raging and >> And there's a band playing.
>> Yeah, there's a band playing.
>> lights.
>> Yeah.
>> So, those studs, I seen them on multiple people's heads. Was that And I get it, this is the young ones, but I'm wondering if there was like a body mod for those?
Cuz I know that you could take them off clothes and they're just basically like pins. But, people could pin that. They could.
You'd bleed. I don't know if >> Yeah, but I I don't think it's any different than like a dermal piercing.
You could probably get something maybe like that as like a dermal.
>> Yeah, I'm wondering like if those were actually a thing. I've never seen it other than the show.
>> Yeah.
>> So, but like seeing multiple people kind of have it and I get >> Vivian's friends.
>> Vivian's friends. [clears throat] And I get that like you could for the show just like stick them on, right? But, like I'm wondering if they're doing that for a bigger like if the punk rock or grunge, you know, hardcore kids of the day used to do that and that's like >> Yeah, if it's just for style or if it's like a modification, yeah.
>> Interesting. Um, this episode was batshit crazy. Like, of course it is.
But, it actually was significantly more on the rails than the last two episodes.
>> Yeah, I would agree with them.
>> So, it kind of had more of like a story, like a I don't want to say a story, but like you kind of knew where we were heading.
>> Yeah.
>> It kind of had like a flow to it where the other two episodes like boring had literally [ __ ] nothing.
>> Honestly, like probably the most random thing in all of this. Even like the Martian [clears throat] robots on the planet.
>> Yeah, I don't even think that was random. I thought that that was >> I think the most random thing was like why they were hiding Mike's TV on the fridge in the beginning.
>> Yeah, [laughter] why?
They were talking about that.
>> they were creating space, yeah, for the party, but like >> And this is the only place it can go.
>> What they like Mike wanted them to tidy, but they're like hiding it from Mike.
It was That was just weird.
>> Yeah.
And I did [laughter] feel like the fifth uh roommate was very like when you saw it, you saw it, but I felt like it was very obvious in this one.
>> Yeah, but she's always like I feel like >> Not in the chair, but next to the chair?
>> hiding in plain sight though. Like once you see her, you don't have to be looking around like in dark corners like we do. But if you're not paying enough attention, you know, they really have you focused on >> Something else.
>> Vivian sucking up the vacuum and breaking the floorboards, so you're watching that. So she's very easy to miss, but also like right there and you shouldn't be able to miss it.
>> And like I just want to Someone has to acknowledge like the last episode of series two. Someone's got to like she's going to stand up and be like, "I'm out of here, guys."
>> I don't know.
>> Something's got to happen.
>> I kind of want that to happen, but I also kind of don't cuz then it's just another like, "What the hell?" But then I also want to be like, "Yeah, I want to I want to see a face and I want to hear what she talks like, but >> Yeah.
>> I'm not expecting it.
>> So you guys, one more episode to go, like I said. Uh sorry for the disruption with the someone at our door. It is what it is. But um let us know down the comments what you thought of this episode and we'll see you in the next one.
Bye.
