Have you ever wondered why some numbers can be paired up perfectly while others have always have one left over? Today we're going to find out. Are you ready?
Let's begin. Let's start with even numbers.
Even numbers can be shared into two equal groups. That means everyone has a partner and nothing is left over. Let's say it together. Even numbers have no leftovers.
Fantastic.
Let's look at some examples. Let's look at two apples. Okay. And then it's me and you. Can we make pairs?
Yes. I can give one apple to you and I can take one apple for me. And no apples are left over. So two is an even number.
If we have four apples, can we make pairs?
Yes, we can. I can give you two apples and I can take two apples. And will we have any apples left over?
No. So four is an even number.
Let's try six balloons.
Can we pair them?
Yes. which means I can give you three balloons and I can take three balloons and nothing is left over. So six is an even number. Now let's learn about odd numbers. Odd numbers cannot be shared into two equal groups. There will always be one left over. Let's say it together.
Odd numbers have one left over.
Excellent. Let's see. Let's look at three apples.
Let's make pairs.
So, we have two apples and a pair.
But one apple is left. That means three is an odd number.
Now, let's try five stars.
Let's pair them. We can make two pairs of two stars. One star is left.
Five is an odd number. How about seven?
For seven balloons, we can make three pairs of two, right? But we'll still have one balloon left over. So seven is an odd number. So let's learn the first five even numbers together. Okay. Can you say them with me? 2 4 6 8 10.
Wonderful job. Now let's say the odd numbers. 1 3 5 7 9. Excellent. Can you hear the pattern?
We're basically skipping the number in between, but we have to think about whether we can we have something left over or we can freely share it. Okay, let's play a game. As always, we love games around here, don't we? I'll say a number. You tell me if it's odd or even.

Yes, it's even. Fantastic.
How about five?
That's right. Five is an odd number.
Excellent.
Remember our trick to figure it out. Try and see if there is a particular number of apples. Can we share it and there will be nothing left over? If nothing is left over, it means that it is an even number. If there is something left behind, it means that it is an odd number. Keep that trick in mind to help you figure out. Okay? If you haven't memorized it, this is the best way to do it. How about the number eight?
Yes, it's even. How about the number 10?
Yes, it's also even. How about 13?
That's right. 13 is odd.
How about 19?
Yes, 19 is also an odd number. Let's look at some socks.
We have four socks. Can we make pairs?
Yes, we can. We can make two pairs of two.
And also, no socks are left over. So, four is even. Now look at five pencils.
Let's pair them. We can create two pairs of two, but we still have one pencil left. So is five odd or even?
