Weather forecasting involves analyzing atmospheric conditions such as frontal boundaries, moisture sources, and air mass movements to predict precipitation patterns. When a stalled frontal boundary persists, it traps Gulf moisture, leading to widespread showers and thunderstorms. As drier air filters in, precipitation becomes more isolated and spotty. Forecasters communicate these patterns using probability percentages (e.g., 40-50% rain coverage) and temperature ranges, helping viewers understand the likelihood and intensity of weather events.

We've been doing business with Bank Independent since the '70s and to know that that they've [music] got our back and it means a lot. They've always been there and it's always been it's been a phone call away.
>> [music] >> From the Tennessee Valley Weather Channel, this is your weather live at 5:00.
A mix of sun and clouds to mainly clouds now here late this afternoon on this Thursday across the Tennessee Valley.
Here's a live look at the Arctic Air Sky Cam Network. You can see some rain showers here in the Huntsville metro areas if you look back southwestward because there are some showers and thunderstorms over in that part of North Alabama. Here's Viper live Doppler radar and you can see some of the heavier thunderstorms here stretching through the Athens and the Huntsville metro areas back into northeast Alabama. None of this is severe and none of it's expected to be severe. It's just heavy rain and some cloud to ground lightning, spotty thunder showers in the northwest Alabama and a couple of them here in the southern middle Tennessee. A large part of southern middle Tennessee, your scattered thunder showers were earlier today, but you may have one or two into the evening as well. A lot of this activity is drifting very slowly off to the southwest. Most of us into the low to mid 80s this afternoon for temperatures here at 5:00. Satellite and radar composite across the southeast showing the stalled frontal boundary near the area once again, and that's going to continue for the next few days before it shifts solidly south of us into early next week.
That means we want to keep this Gulf moisture around here for the next few days and widespread showers and thunderstorms start to crank up again for Friday and at least the first half of the weekend, if not in the Sunday as well. Spotty thunder showers out there this evening. Those continue off and on with no real rhyme or reason for their placement into the overnight. Not everybody getting rain overnight, but some folks will and you may see some thunder as well, but not expecting any severe storms, so no worries about tornadoes or damaging winds. Thunder shower into the morning hours and then as we get into the midday and afternoon, we get that daytime heating, we get back in the upper 70s and lower 80s again, and things become more widespread with widespread waves of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow midday afternoon and on into tomorrow evening and overnight as well. And then it's much of the same as we head into Saturday with widespread showers and thunderstorms Saturday. Maybe even a little more widespread than what it will be tomorrow. On Sunday, it's kind of a toss-up with just how widespread it will be, but I would say at minimum expect a 40 to 50% type rain coverage with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Things do become more isolated in the early next week as that drier air filters in. We won't get rid of the rain chances, but they will become more spotty as we head for Monday, especially into Tuesday and Wednesday of next week before that deep moisture comes back northward again as we head toward next Thursday and maybe next Friday and then that following weekend or so. So, we're not going to get completely done with the rain here altogether to where it's just completely dry for everybody anytime soon. And no runaway heat around here, which is certainly good news. For the next 7 days, daytime highs stay generally in the upper 70s and lower 80s, and as that drier air filters in for a few days, even some overnight lows next week into the mid upper 50s briefly. Your forecast for tonight, scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder out there, but no severe storms expected. Overnight lows between 64 and 70° for most of us. As we head into our Friday, widespread showers and thunderstorms are likely. Some of that rainfall locally heavy. Daytime highs upper 70s to lower 80s. That 79 is not a one number type number for every community. It will vary a little bit a few degrees either side of that. But showers and thunderstorms widespread.
Maybe even more widespread than that on Saturday. And then we start to step down the rain coverage a little bit Sunday into especially the first half of next week is slightly drier air filters in, but it won't shut off the rain chance completely across the area. It is much more spotty. But as we head toward the second half of next week, especially toward next Thursday, next Friday, just beyond the 7-day forecast, we get back into that wetter pattern once again.
There's a look at your latest 7-day forecast. I'll be back at 6:00 and 9:00 with another check of your local weather.
