Robinson masterfully exposes the paradox where technical over-engineering becomes a barrier to genuine connection rather than a bridge. It is a sharp reminder that when production smothers clarity, the art effectively silences its own message.

PRESIDENT have a BIG problem & THIS SONG reveals it - DOOM LOOP ANALYSISHinzugefügt:
Never before have I taken such a 180 on a band as I have done with President because when I first watched the the music videos and at the time I was taking a really deep dive into Sleep Token still am but I just didn't find I couldn't I couldn't get into what the law was what they were trying to say and then I listened to the songs without watching the music videos and [ __ ] hell some of the songs totally clicked with me. So yesterday President have released their new single Doom Loop and there's new album coming out and God they are touring [ __ ] everywhere. They've announced a UK tour for the end of the year in November. They are doing every festival that's [ __ ] going and so let's let's take a look at it. Let's take a look at the new single. This is Doom Loop by President.
There is no satisfactory explanation [music] of time. Why?
Because it doesn't really exist.
The tragedy of time is that we only understand [music] its value after it's become a memory.
It's a Benjamin fact I'll get to it.
Very Nine Inch Nails snare.
Ooh, >> [music] >> it's a banger. Hey.
Love that sample. That's Oh, so we're telling the early story here in the video.
>> [music] >> So we finally learning about the development of the President.
>> [music] [screaming] [music] [music] >> Ooh, she's funky.
>> [music] [music] >> Haven't heard one of these lyrics so far.
>> [music] >> Do you like that though?
>> [music] >> That's waspy.
Samples. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Great pop chorus.
>> [music] [music] >> Gosh, the music videos are So, the the evolution, the birth of the President logo.
So, we're getting lower here. Lovely production. Oh gosh.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> Woohoo!
>> [music] >> My mom knows how to write a chorus, doesn't he? [music] >> [music] >> Double chorus, come on!
>> [music] >> I like a blend.
>> [music] >> Okay.
Okay. All right. Let's uh Let's Let's talk about it. All right. Let's get to it. Here's the positives. Gosh, doesn't he know how to write a pop song?
Because it's so earwormy, it's so catchy. The chorus drops really nicely.
The the the uh digi into live drums like it's all it's all very, very well constructed. The double chorus at the end, [ __ ] me, you know how much I love a double chorus. Uh to to finish a {quote} {unquote} pop song. Uh and you can have your opinions about uh whether uh my opinion uh my interpretation of what a pop song is. Uh but this is This is This has pop sensibilities to it. But therein lies my uh ultimate problem with this.
Is that And and also, I will preface by saying this might be a me problem.
Before we dive back into this too intricately, my issue with this is that apart from a few lines here or there, I have no [ __ ] idea what he is singing. He could be singing [ __ ] about shrubbery, suffering, succotash in that [ __ ] refrain. I don't know. And that's that's been my issue with President and it is still going to be maybe an enduring thing. But remember I come from musical theater background. Therefore, that means that when we perform, it is one take. It's one and done. If you don't hear what we say on stage, if we can't tell you the story, then you miss it. There isn't no watching the video again. There isn't going on genius and looking for the lyrics. It's done.
That's it. It's over. You don't get to have a second chance of it. And I realize that that's not where we live in, you know, a social media generation in in a digital generation. However, if you're going to be so law-based, and I do believe and having read some of the interviews as well, and I think they're really enlightening the interviews that the the man behind this mask has has given about it.
I feel like we have to we have to hear you have to you have to produce this in a way. And I know this is a lot of people's issues with President is the overproduction of of and and and while I can understand the argument is that well, it's meant to it's meant to create confusion. It's meant to be confusing. It's meant to But you're you're taking away a key element of my enjoyment of this song. I want to be able to I don't want to just make noises and go shrubbery I want to know what you're singing. I want to know what the chorus is. And and the production doesn't seem and it may it might be by design and who the [ __ ] am I to comment. But I just feel it takes me out of it because I want to understand the law. There is law here.
There's absolutely law here and we'll get to that in a moment and and and and actually no, that's enough. [ __ ] it.
Let's Let's go back into the the the the music video which which is there's a lot of really clever stuff in here. So [ __ ] it. Let's talk about it.
There is no satisfactory [music] explanation of time. Why?
Because it doesn't really exist.
The tragedy of time is that we only understand [music] its value after it's become a memory.
Okay, Benjamin Franklin said life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late and I can't I can't separate the two here. I I I don't know what make I don't know if this is a quote from somewhere else, but that's what it makes me think of. That there there is there is a a nod here immediately to an American president.
Remember, although the British band not a prime minister, president. And so why why is it a president? I I will I I'll put that to you guys. You can discuss that in the comments. You can [ __ ] have at that. Why is this band called president?
Is it just because prime minister is a [ __ ] name? But there have been quotes already in some of the earlier president songs that make me believe that this is law driven. This is this is intricate.
There is there is there is a story being told here.
I do love the pop industrial So right, I'm not going to go through the whole song. I'm going to talk about certain little aspects of this. So in my opinion, there is religious trauma in this. And having read some of the interviews with the the man behind this mask, uh uh redacted, I would just like to highlight this moment in the music video. And I would like to just talk about the cross of Lorraine.
So, during World War II, the cross of Lorraine became the official symbol of the free French resistance under Charles de Gaulle. That That That's what the President symbol represents. The Nazis had the swastika. So, the French needed a counter symbol, and that's what this was. It was a sign of resistance. It was a symbol of a refusal to surrender. And during occupation, it was a sign of identity. It takes something that is so uh well-known, something which is internationally known as as as the cross, as the crucifix where where Jesus Christ was was crucified, and it adds something to it, and it makes it a sign of resistance. We shall not be overcome.
[ __ ] you and your swastika. This is us.
That's why I suppose I'm a bit pissed off that we can't hear the lyrics so much that I don't think we should have to force people to go and find the lyrics. I don't think we should have to I I want to I want to be told. I want to be Tell me the story.
Cuz the Cuz there is Look Look at that.
Like there's there's there's there's there's there's law that there's there's there's evolution, there's revolution potentially in this song, in these lyrics, in this band, and what they're trying to what President the band trying to portray.
And that's where my frustration lies with the lyrics, because you're trying to tell me a story and I can't [ __ ] hear it. But the cross of Lorraine also ties into stuff like archetypes, the king, the martyr, the revolutionary, the priest, the shadow ruler, for want of a Like that there is there's there's there's not This is not a surface level concept. And I even myself hold my hands up. I was I was totally like I was wrong. I I thought that this was very surface level, but there is a huge amount of depth, historical, political, [ __ ] revolutionary depth in this. In fact, even the the the cover of the of the album that's going to be released later this year it it it looks like civil war.
So, there is a level of political exhaustion. There is a level of religious exhaustion to all of this. It's it's heavy. President are much heavier than I gave them credit for. Let's go back to some of the beautiful parts in in this because there are very beautiful parts in this.
My man's got such A HEALTHY SCREAM.
>> [screaming] >> SO, IT'S SO round and beautiful and honestly, I'm I I don't know if any of you guys have seen them live, but I would be so interested to watch them live to see how they can how they can recreate this.
>> [music] [music] [music] [screaming] [music] >> The even just just that that's that's a prime example of how I can't, I can't hear exactly she I thought it was she was not enough for me. I think it's shame is not enough I don't I don't know.
I'm not going to bring up the lyrics because actually I don't I don't I don't want to because I think that rather that's that's exactly my point. I don't think we should have to bring up the lyrics in order to understand what's going on here. However, I will say that the music video is very well produced.
It looks very very beautiful and it's got you know, it's got kind of Star Wars vibes to it as well and there is the the undercurrent of of what that flag represents as well.
>> [music] >> What if Sarah choreographed this?
>> [music] >> I just can't deny that it's a [ __ ] bop.
>> [music] >> I think the imagery is incredible. I think I think that that president absolutely on to something and also you got to remember they haven't got an album out but they've got t-shirts in Primark. So [ __ ] full round of applause to future history management and how well they've been promoted and how well they have been marketed. Uh And and I think the fact is my man can write a [ __ ] hell of a song and they are really really catchy and I don't think the doom loop is any different. I just my only issue is I can't for a band that seems to be so cleverly constructed and so lore based if you can't tell me the story over the course of 4 minutes dead on the nose then you are you are asking your audience to to do more.
What why why do what then maybe that's by design. Maybe they wanted deliberately messy so you can't hear everything. Um it's a fantastic pop song. Um there's absolutely no no doubting that.
Uh I just feel a bit short changed uh that I can't hear the lyrics. Like and then and then that and then like I said might be me problem. Anyway chaps, thank you for watching this. On screen now are all of my members on Coffee. Um they get early access to videos, exclusive videos. There are thousands of hours of of of videos on demand. I know that we will discuss this at length I'm sure uh over on on Twitch of which if you miss any of those streams they're available to you if you're a member on Coffee. You will also get access to our uh our Discord which is a community led Discord. Um uh thank you so much to everybody who who supports me. Um I really do appreciate it and indeed there's merch as well if you you feel so inclined.
There are there's merchandise available and you can uh if you do feel so inclined as well uh follow me on Twitch.
Um I I really I'm really interested in present. I've taken a like I said a whole 180 on on present recently and I like the way that they've evolved the idea.
Uh I like the even in this music video that we get some kind of back story but it is always and and like I said me problem.
It I I I just I find it very very difficult to fully invest in something when the production doesn't allow me to hear the words. And listen, we live in a world of uh of of screamers and death metal and and and and and all sorts of uh of of variations of metal where sometimes we do have to go and seek out the lyrics on on on on the internet, but when something seems so carefully constructed, I just if I'm going to play the game, I want to know the rules. Anyway, fantastic. Can't wait to potentially see them live at the end of the year and uh chaps, thanks for watching this. I'll see you for the next one.
