Why "Rest" Is a Person Against a Tree

[00:00:00]Sh means rest. It's a person leaning against [music] a tree. Certain Chinese characters called idographs capture meaning visually. Sho is a perfect example. Thousands of years ago, someone looked at that scene. Shade, stillness, a moment to breathe. That's what rest looks like. Then they drew it and it's been resting there in the language ever since. And once you see how this works, you can't really unsee it. The person radical on the left shows up everywhere.
