Hand surgery cannot restore normal function in hemiplegia because the underlying cause is neurological damage to the brain, not physical damage to the hand itself; the brain's damaged area controls body movement, so surgical intervention on the hand cannot reverse the neurological impairment.

Q&A If you have surgery on your hand, will it return to its normal state? #handsurgery #hemiplegiaAjouté :
Hi, I'm Kiara. I'm a childhood stroke survivor. I had my stroke when I was two and 10 months. I'm doing a series on why I answer the questions you may have about hemoplegia and stroke. So, the question I have for you today is, let me find it. It's this one. Okay. Let me just highlight it.
>> If you have surgery on your hand, will it return to its normal state?
>> Okay. So, if I was to have surgery on my hand, would it return to its normal state? No. So because I had a stroke when I was 2 and 10 months, I have a neurological condition and the part of my brain that is damaged is the left side. And the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body and the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. So no, it wouldn't return back to a normal state. The only reason why I would consider having surgery on my arm is if the Botox injections I have stopped working. So if they ever did stop working, I have seen a surgeon and they did talk about a tendon transfer. But the reason why I I have chosen not to have it right now is because if I have a tendon transfer in my arm, they don't know what position my arm could be I could I could then after the surgery my arm could go into because my arm could then go up high like this. And I don't like my arm up high. It used to be like this when I was younger. I'll insert a picture so you guys can see. and it was very uncomfortable and I didn't like it.
So, they brought it down with the Botox injections. But, if I was to have a tendon transfer, they don't know what position. They can't guarantee that it would be in a good position. That's the only reason why I would have surgery is if the Botox wore off. So, yeah. I hope that answered your question and I hope you all have a great rest of your day.
Bye.
