Cascadia slow slips up once again. X Flare potential increasing. Monday Night update.
Added:Good evening everyone. Welcome back here to a Monday night. It is the Earth Earth Master out here. July 20th, 2026, 10:50 p.m. California time. Uh latest activity here on the earthquake 3D globe shows a 3.7 uh also 1.9 up in Alaska, 3.7 hiding over here across the Java Trench. Some activity stirring up out in the Indian Ocean as well across that fracture boundary. Uh let's go ahead and check in here on the west coast. See what we got going on. Of course, we had that earthquake activity this morning. Well, late last night technically off the coast there of Canada. 5.6 earthquake.
Kind of curious to see if the trimmer counts are elevated up there. So, let's go take a look here at the slow slip event map this evening. See if we got any stress going on out there across the Cascadia today. Uh 377 epicenters.
Nothing up north though. Uh the majority of that once again down south there across the southern end of the Cascadia subduction zone and that is only fueling and stressing the red area right there.
That's where the stress accumulates as the Wand Fuka plate here is being shoved underneath the North American plate, the overlapping um plate here. So getting some stress building up there. The trimmer counts occur down here in the deeper area of the Cascadia. No big earthquake yet, but I tell you what, things are stressing out here across the southern end. They've been quite elevated far as where the tremor counts have been um happening here recently.
Couple smaller quakes there up through Seattle and Washington. Waiting for the USGS here to add a little click over in terms of which faults are which once you once you move the mouse over them. I do like the fact here that they've added quite a bit more faults out here on their USGS map. I do like that. But it'd be nice to have a little click over, you know, like say for example, you hover over the San Andreas fault and it will show you the San Andreas fault, what type of plate boundary it is, such as a transform and so on. I'm sure they'll get to that here eventually, but hey, this is a good step forward. Couple earthquakes down here along the Calaveris fault. Got uh 2.2 two near Gilroy and also 1.6.
Uh let's see, hold on a second here.

Looks like there's a little swarm going on here. I had to zoom in a little bit closer to see this activity. Quite a few ones and some twos there in the last hour near Gilroy. That's looks like it's just off the Calaveris fault, which branches of course into the Hayward fault and the Calaveras fault up north.
Uh nothing big going on. San Francisco still a little quiet, but it seems as though it's inching its way up northward far as the uh uh the pressure goes.
Pretty quiet there across Southern California as far as any larger activity. Uh just got that one earthquake this morning near Koso Junction as far as 2.9 or far as 2.5 and above goes. Mostly smaller microquake activity out there today. Same for Nevada, not a whole lot going on.
Yellowstone, really nothing going on there. Uh, but you know, I just I always got to double check and make sure that that is indeed the case because Yellowstone's one of those areas where we could have a big earthquake swarm ongoing and the USGS will not even report anything on it unless it's above a certain magnitude. So, I always just like to double check. It takes a second and there's really not a whole lot happening. There's that little earthquake this morning about 4:00 or so and that was reported as a little 0.9, not a nine magnitude, but a little 0.9.
Um just some smaller quake activity out there in Utah.
Uh oil fields still rocking and rolling.
Not a whole lot else going on out there across the eastern portion of the country. Let's take a look here at the earthquake 3D globe. See what we got.
Some further activity out in the Atlantic here. 5.6 5.2. Last time we had this activity, we seen a big 7.3 earthquake out there across the middle American trench. And it's roughly in that same location uh lo location there.

Um, was it the last seven days?
Maybe it was a little bit longer here.
Oh, maybe it was. Hold on a second. What happened to the activity that was out here?
I'm not seeing it. Did it get removed?
Maybe I'm thinking about this area. But most of the time, I don't know. I'm thinking there was some activity up north here that looks like it got removed. Uh but regardless, this activity here took place on the 16th. All of it did. And that big sevenp pointer over here, big 7.3 struck one day later on the 17th. So, and that was way down south. Now, we got some further activity along the uh divergent zone here. It's a spreading seafloor center, creating new oceanic crust that should further stress areas around the Caribbean, the North American plate.
This is just kind of how the uh the pressure transfers from uh or to notice the arrows right here. Uh separation there. We could we could potentially see some further increasing activity up north um around the um Mediterranean area and whatnot, but also across the North American region. And I'm thinking around the Caribbean area as well. So, we'll just kind of keep an eye on that movement. Uh some activity out here uh throughout the afternoon. A lot of swarming up there around Puerto Rico. Um couple earthquakes there across the Port of Spain area, off the coast of Venezuela.
Um far as the aftershock sequence goes there around Guatemala and the Mexico area, tapering off slightly. I mean, this is just the 4.0 and above that the USGS is reporting. Uh there's five earthquakes there above that range. It's still quite a bit of smaller quake activity, but it looks like that's starting to die off there far as the multitude counts go from that 7.3 a few days back. Now, uh some light activity there across the South America area into the PC chili trench. Nothing big going on. Uh the rest of the planet here, let's see, Japan. Oh man, it looks like we're starting to move up here again around the curl cam chat down through the Japan trench. Quite a few fours, five-pointer up north. Uh I'm sure this will fill in here. A lot of activity north south this quiet zone. Uh and also with that deep earthquake there, I think we'll see some further adjustment taking place here.
Uh but for now, nothing big. Oh, down here across this area. Look at this. New Zealand's getting a little swarm down here around the South Island area. It's been uh quite active there just off the Alpine Fault in South Island area, west side uh here in the last several days.
Quite a bit of activity stirring up.
Nothing big, but it does have potential there for a major earthquake.
Quite a few fives there across the Tonga Trench up into the uh um around the Fiji area.
Let's go check in on Hawaii real quick.
I see some activity stirring up here in the last hour. Looks like this though is a typical deep activity underneath the area about 20 miles deep associated with the hot spot here. Just a swarm of activity that stirs up pretty much any uh any given day out here. Let's go check in on the Kilaway volcano inflation model and then we'll get to space weather activity. We'll see what's going on here on the sun.
Uh give it a second. Always at night it does that. It's got a little delay.

Come on. Hello. There we go. We're going back up. I mean, we've been going up since the end of the eruption there on the uh about the 15th or 16th or so. Um I don't see any down downward trends far as deflationary activity goes. I mean, we've seen that last time, which lengthened the period from uh the uh pause in the eruption up to the next eruption. But this one here looks fairly stable, which means we'll probably see a shorter window. Um, as far as an eruption happening, they think it's going to be around the um I think they said the 24th to the 28th here of July.
As far as the next eruption goes, episode 52, rinse and repeat cycle since 2024.
Space weather activity. And let's see what we got here. Back down in the Bflare category.
Past three days though, we've seen a a little bit of seaflair activity, including an inflare past 24 hours. Some Cflar activity and Mflair activity.
That's because we have a oh, a couple different sunspots here. We're watching this one currently facing the planet. It does look like it wants to spark off another flare. It's got some bright features there with the magnetic lines looping back in on the polarities, different opposite polarities there of that sunspot. Um, and that is directly facing the planet. Let's see what we got for the magnetogram image of 4493.
And this is literally a new sunspot that popped up here in the last few days.
It's not a former returning sunspot.
This one's a new one. And sometimes those are the ones you really got to watch out for. Uh earlier this year, I think it was earlier this year, maybe even last year, I man, years are just flying by. Uh we had a new newly developed sunspot and it just started popping off with X flares. Um so that can happen with these newer developing ones. And this one's gaining quite a bit of size here. We got to watch the center portion here of the core. Uh if this starts to continue to develop uh all these opposite polarities, uh that's a sign that this thing may want to pop off in next flare or two. So, I do think it's got some potential right now. Not too concerned with this area over here.
And looking back over on this uh other sunspot I was kind of keeping my eye on.
Looks like that sunspot area has weakened as well. These were two or three massive areas here last time. They were out here on the sun um on the earth facing side of the sun weeks ago, but it looks like they are in their dying stage and um just not a whole lot there happening from those. We might see a little bit of activity here. There's still some complexity within that sunspot. But I think right now front and center is going to be this area right here, which is technically right up front. Uh and it's looking at the planet right now. So the flare threat that these guys have bumped up a little bit and that's due to the uh complexity there of that sunspot kind of rapidly developing. 5% chance there for Xflair.
Mflair at 40% chance, Cflare at 99% chance. So we'll continue to watch that uh from that sunspot there that's currently facing the planet.
Far as the aurora forecast goes, it looks like maybe here coming up. Is it tomorrow night? Yeah, I think this is going to be for Wednesday night far as the um potential of a G1 class storm.
We'll see if that materializes or not.
We'll we'll check back on that at uh maybe maybe tomorrow we'll get a little bit better uh perspective of that's going to happen. What's going on here?
You guys see that? It's weird. Tropical tidbits are kind of messing up on me here. It's a weather forecasting tool and they're acting kind of weird. So, I'm going to close out that window. It's not me and it's not the internet because everything's working just fine. It's just this here. Tropical tidbits.
That's a little weird. So, I'm And then they refresh themselves. So, I don't know what's going on here. I'm going to avoid that right now.
Uh for the Tuesday, this is for uh Tuesday here. Far as thunderstorm activity goes. Let's check the storm reports real quick. See what we got for uh uh the activity today. Had a seven reports of tornado activity. Remember that was going to be kind of a big deal up here today. And it looks like that somewhat verified for tornado activity.
Seven reports. 109 wind reports, 24 hail reports. So, uh tomorrow looks as though that's going to be a uh another day of definitely some high wind out there. This is for Tuesday. So, look at that. Big chance of damaging wind gust, some hail and some tornado potential out there as well for Tuesday.
So, just a heads up on that. This is for Wednesday. Severe weather shifting further east.

Got uh got this system out there. Trop is it tropical storm still? I believe it is. Um, it's going to be dying quite rapidly as it makes its way northward.
But it's kind of cool watching this here because we don't get too many tropical systems here off the coast of California.
Um, but you know, with the warming waters out here, that's going to be, I think, a more of a more of a thing. But it is going to stir up probably some waves out there and it's going to stir up the humidity and the due point for sure. And, uh, we'll even get some wind here in the valley as that system kind of affects the weather out here. No big wind gust. It's going to die off by then, but it's kind of neat to see a a tropical system here in Northern California stir up the stir up the weather. Pretty crazy. Due points are going to be elevated as well. Um, this is for you can actually watch this increase. It's somewhat dry now, but as a as that tropical system gets closer, this turns more yellow and it just really puts the due points up there a little bit. Uh, not super muggy, but 61.
It's I think we get higher than that.
This is a little bit on the lenient side. Uh, I had a due point today around my area of 70 uh 70 degrees. Uh, but I'm sure the contributing factor a lot of rice fields out here do put put that moisture into the air when the sun's beating down on it. But, uh, far as, uh, any rainfall goes, I don't think we're going to see much of anything out here.
It's going to stay well offshore.
Monsunal moisture across the desert southwest and four corners all the way up into Wyoming. Uh nothing really for California though, even to the third of uh August already. Not a drop. But that's going to change though. I guarantee you that's definitely going to change.
Think we're going to have a pretty wet winter out here thanks to the El Nino.
All right. Uh anyway, folks, I think I'm going to call it. Uh seismograph stations out there. This one, what in the world just happened to Parkfield?
Is it all of them? It looks like they may be doing their nightly reset because it affected all the plate boundary stations here. PB, Petroia, Parkfield, and China Lake. So, the data is still coming in, but the amplitudes there looks like they've readjusted them for some reason. It's just not limited to one. It looks like it's a total network uh adjustment. So, I'll have to keep an eye on that.
