The analysis provides a sharp look at how spatial constraints dictate strategic viability, revealing the thin line between a tactical stalemate and a dynamic offensive. It effectively demonstrates that in competitive systems, geography often overrides player intent.

War of Dots Trying to Make Attacking Viable AgainAjouté :
Yep. Obviously keeping up the ladder grind. 700 games to go, then I'll get 3,000.
There are a couple people who are, you know, still trying to catch me, but should be safe for now.
The main thing I've been concerned about is trying to relearn how to go on the offensive and curly head wasn't available. So, I just went after the other guy who did it to him first. I be sleepy.
He's like rank eight or six right now.
And I'm still trying to figure out this is the first game I played against him.
like how how am I going to attack?
You know, you got to use more troops to cycle initially. So, you're going to make troops less, but it really just doesn't matter. you know, I'm trading slightly better, but it, you know, he's got a heavy maid, I've got a light maid, he's got just the income, and already defending has cost me more casualties. And this is a four city map, which means that troop disparities are a lot bigger.
Like they're they're a lot more uh impactful than any others.
And I've come this game I think I've come to the conclusion that if the map has four cities, you can't attack. It's not possible. You just don't have enough stuff to work with.
Cuz the only way you can attack and like overcome the defender's advantage in is through cycling. But if you just don't have units to cycle on four city maps or you just have the least amount of stuff, there's not really anything you can do.
So in the future, I think, you know, if you're going to follow any of my advice other than just watching, like if you're uh playing this game, if you get a four city map, just defend and make heavies and stalemate the game. There's not really much else you can do in my opinion.
But yeah, he takes a game from me.
You know, hindsight, I will never I'll probably never attack again and just make light or heavies on four city maps.
It's just it's just too much of a disadvantage.
Next game we played on a little bit, you know, bigger map, six cities, so you have more to work with.
And he kind of pokes me here, which is fine. He doesn't want me to get my heavies into the planes, but I don't really care about that. I'll just move them up here. And I'm still doing the same thing. You know, trying to do lights. I do get a little bit better trades initially just because, you know, you have more units so you can cycle better. And he's going for heavies. I'm going for lights.
Uh, still just a lot of cycling and a lot of trading.
I'm able to squeak out a bit of a lead, but nothing too good, especially because it's a six city map, but I am making progress, you know, pushing wise and uh, unit countwise. Still, you know, nothing decisive yet. I am killing units off which is pretty good. But you know I've also lost a couple units from poor micro like right here. I should have pulled this guy out way sooner. I guess I did save him. But like this guy I probably should have like pulled back straighten the line out not let my units get like 4v1 like that. And the troop count does, you know, close in a little bit more even. But I'm honestly fine with that. I think this is a better situation when the troop count's lower and you're more even because uh the heavies that he's making. I guess he's stopped. I'm not really seeing too many, but you know, when it becomes a battle like this is usually when the defender's advantage, you can see for both sides all the morale's gone. And when that happens, I'm a little bit more confident confident in my abilities to make decisions that will win me the game when I don't have to fight at a disadvantage.
But still, the troop count evens out.
Mostly just picking off each of us are just picking off units from one another.
I, you know, make another misplay here, get a bunch of units trapped and killed.
He gets some units uh nearly killed up here. You know, we're both making some mistakes, but you know, that's bound to happen on a bigger map. But because this map has six cities, you know, losing just a little bit from attacking is not uh just game over. And now the troop counts are getting to the point where 30k is a big deal. And at this point, you know, there's not he's going to have to play super well to come back, but a lot of units are dying. He's not going to be able to regenerate, and it's pretty much over. So, I'm able to overcome his defense on that map.
Next game, that's a free-for-all.
It's on uh this match is on uh Mr. Bunell Gaming's channel if you wanted to look at it. I probably won't make a video on it, but he's got it. Uh this is the one I'm looking for. Uh decent map, still six cities, so we both have a lot to work with.
Uh this one, he does make a few tactical errors in my my opinion pushing the south. Really hard for him to reinforce this area. Uh, initially he is going to trade even with me, but that's just because he's got more heavies down here than me. But I've got three cities nearby to reinforce. He only has two.
Uh, one thing I'll mention when the time comes that I have learned that might be like what you have to do to be able to attack is pull back and just leave stuff exposed, but only exposed enough to where if they decide to counterattack you, you can stop them. Uh, I'm pretty sure I do that in this game and one other game. You know, when the time comes, you you'll see what I'm talking about.
I'll point it out. But, you know, I'm just really pressuring this city right here. You know, lapses in micro, able to pick off some units. And this is what I'm talking about here. I want to commit everything. And I just want to leave a heavy here and another heavy here. So, I've got 40,000 troops that if he wants to dislodge this with like like the 70,000 troops that he could use, it's going to take forever. His heavies are going to be in the forest.
My heavy is going to be on the city, which is pretty much like being on the plains. So, no disadvantage there for me. You know, he does, you know, realize this and pulls all his stuff here. But because I was able to use my units for a bit longer to trade on his front line, I'm able to grind out a pretty significant troop lead. Uh, and a lot of his healthy stuff is right here where it needs to be is over here pressuring the city. Uh, almost do get one of this tank encircle just because I don't have a lot of stuff up here to support it. But, you know, counter it works out for me. Maintaining the troop lead, even expanding it. And now it's looking pretty bleak for him. I'm on the verge of the city. He's got one less city of regeneration.
I've got a troop lead 50,000. That's going to be very difficult to come back from.
And we both defaulted to make he's making lights because, you know, he needs to big encirclements over here. He can't defend this anymore. And that's GG.
And I do that same exact play this. No, that's Trees.
I do that same exact play on this map. Very bad map for blue in my opinion. This mountain separates you way too much and because of this and you have no reserves as well. So it's really hard to defend your like start generating money at the start. So, my strategy, it's really easy for red to divert a bunch of forces to the south here. So, what I do is pull back, give him some space, leave this city with the heavy on it and, you know, minimal defenses. That's going to take a lot for him to break and just move a ton down to the south.
And you can see if I didn't do that and like I try to like play a kind of normal game, I would probably have lost because it's very difficult to support this area down here as blue. And you can see just this one heavy up here. I'm fine leaving that.
Just a couple lights. It's less to protect the city and more to just uh project zone of control, you know, and you know, make him like worried about uh possible like cutting him off.
He does snipe one of my units here, which sucks for me. But you can see in the south, this is a pretty desperate play that he's or like desperate position for him. All his stuff's almost dead.
He's going for a surround, but I'm able to maintain the choke point over here.
So, he doesn't actually finish it. And because that didn't happen and he's attacking me, it's like I he's had the defender advantage over here, but I get the defender advantage over here. And now he's down 30,000. And I'm okay leaving this one city just with a heavy on it. it's going to take him so much more resources and so much time to dislodge this that, you know, it's not really worth it and it's safe for me.
So, that's what I'm talking about. This is probably something that you're just going to have to do is leave a heavy onto the city and as little as possible to invite an attack, you know, make it seem weak, but leave it defensible for, you know, long enough to where if they do commit enough, it's going to be game losing for them.
And you know, his encirclement failed. I keep pushing the south. Big troop lead.
Game's mine.
But aside from like those two like changes, honestly, I haven't been really doing anything different. It's just been playing. Like I got locked in to play these games.
Uh, it's kind of hard to tell because it's like moving so fast, but you know, I don't like losing and I like attacking and I'd like to keep attacking the my fast-paced gameplay. So, if I can make it work, that'd be better. This map, he actually goes on the attack because it is a pretty good map for red. This peninsula is, you can defend it. I did a poor job this game of doing it. I should Well, I'm going to keep this I'm going to keep a few tactics in the back pocket for now, but I shouldn't have been really doing much up here. I should have pulled back here and focused more on just defending.
It's It's kind of goofy if there's not a lot of space here. You got to come across bridges and because it takes a lot of work to cycle here and I try to attack here at the same time, my uh micro kind of slips and I just take bad trades on both fronts and then it leads to me, you know, making a mistake leaving the city with a fresh unit and he just walks across, kills it and takes the city. But I would have lost anyway.
I was down on troops.
That one I can blame a little bit more on the map, but it also was just me playing bad.
But that's pretty much it. The rest of these are just ladder stomps, a free-for-all that's on Mr. Banell Gamings if you wanted to see it.
And couple matches against Trees. Guess I can throw that in there.
Uh, more of the same. just going on the attack. This map, I'd say it's about even for both sides.
The map, I guess, is technically slightly better for blue, but not enough to where I'd say you're going to lose the game like that other map if you don't like play perfectly.
And just able to pick off some units. He doesn't really get an encirclement up here.
a lot faster paced because he is also trying to go for offensive moves unlike Sleepy who was going pure defense. So the bad trades that he was taking uh combined with the good trades that I was taking on offense stacked up and made the deficit a lot bigger, a lot faster compared to if you're only defending.
And another clean match.
I don't think he's number two. I think Icy Dot actually is number two now. I think he was like 2230 or 2250 somewhere around there. So, I got to keep an eye out for him.
Hopefully, I'll be able to take a couple more points from him on the ladder if I match up against him. But, as far as attacking goes, I I I don't know. I'd have to get more like matches in against it. It might just be I have to play better, which, you know, who knows? And as far as the tournament, yes, it is going to happen at some point, but I want to make sure I get the maps, all the ready. Got three like that I'd say are good to go so far.
One from Trees, one that I made, and then one that Trey's made with the idea that I made.
These two probably going to have to get reworked, and especially because I don't really want to. I was going to include a couple four city maps into the map pool, but after uh those games where it's just going to be super defensive, I don't believe that four city maps can lead to one side winning over the other if both players are equally skilled. So, I'll probably make all the maps five or six cities because then you'll at least have enough to do stuff with. But yes, it is going to happen. When will I announce it? probably uh next week, Sunday, you know, probably. If you want to join it, you have to be in the War of Dots Discord. Will I link it? No, you got to find it for yourself. All right, that's it.
