We had never heard INDONESIAN Music like this! Wali - Cari Jodoh (Full Album)Added:
I am looking for a soulmate.
>> Welcome to the Future Friday podcast.
>> Today we're checking out Wally's most famous album, Chari Joo.
>> That's right. Which means like literally they need to find us looking for soul or searching for soul or I need a soulmate or something. They're a very interesting band because they're considered to be the leader of Indonesian local pop. Um, immensely famous. This album ended up doing over 26 million downloads uh in the RBT era, which is essentially Indonesia's ringtone era uh for your inbox or when people were calling you and you hadn't ringtone. Um you had to pay for it. This is [ __ ] ridiculous.
>> And you had to do it and you know how how it used to be like it used to pop up on the music videos underneath.
>> You text the number or you call or something.
>> Yeah. And they take credit out of like the text.
>> Yeah. And then there's obviously the physical copies on top of that. There will be an uncut version with the full album review for all the members. So do hit the join button um so you can get access to all 10 song reviews. Um we do this on a weekly basis. There's also uh Peter Pan's album for all the members out right now. But let's give it a watch. The first song >> excited for this >> is the title track of the song as same as the album name Chhatty Joo.
Apparently it's very relatable to the culture because it's basically them begging someone to sort of please introduce me to your daughter. I want to get married. Somebody. You got somebody I can buy. You got the cheese that I can eat.
I like the sound. Yeah, I can understand why this was so down.
It's very ringtone.
>> Very ringtone.
Good vocalist.
>> Anybody?
just like >> I hope so.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> I love the upbeat the check on the keys.
It's very Indonesian.
I could I move and see See I am Yeah, it's very true Indonesian music. I love it. It's very pop, but he has a strong identity.
It's very dang good fusion.
Fire oh.
>> No way.
>> Very mean.
>> No way.
>> He did it.
>> Yeah. No wonder every boy would be singing this song.
>> He gets the girl at the end. I I also have to say the the extras in that in that music video were not ex were not actors. They actually were normal people. You can tell.
>> Yeah. They were just normies. Like >> I love everything about this because this is very much what like Indonesian pop >> should be. And it actually embodies it perfectly cuz like the influences of the dang or or traditional dangd doot for example cuz like the vocalist like we said it in the previous video when we got to discover Wally as like as a band.
What called our attention was the very obvious predisposition to the vocalist inclining into that tang sort of like sound aesthetic which so it's so incredibly vocally difficult. So to have the the opportunity to bring that into pop, it's so freaking cool. I really think that any other place would struggle to bring folkloric music into a pop element in Indonesia.
>> I think it is called Meleu Malayu.
>> Um which is essentially local pop. Uh which makes a ton of sense for Wali and why they're so famous and people were really looking forward to us reviewing this and and I really didn't understand why. Uh but it makes more sense. The next song is called Bike Bike Sang. I don't know if he has a music video. We can check.
>> I really like that.
>> He does.
>> It does.
>> Oh, this everyone had music videos.
>> Yes. I think that's the only way that you could really promote. But that this is how they became so popular.
>> They're kind of funny. It's very Indonesian.
>> Yes. It's very serious.
>> I love that [ __ ] One of my favorite parts of Indonesia.
This is a serious song.
Du way more serious than I anticipated.
Especially because the title track is so unserious.
I could I got a cool I Oh my god.
I love my buddy by There's no between. You're either laughing or you're going You see my by Holy [ __ ] >> Indonesia has no chill.
>> They had so many videos.
>> Yeah. I generally think, guys, >> Indonesia has zero chill. You guys have zero chill. Honestly, it's zero or 100.
There's no nothing in between the [ __ ] middle.
>> You're freaking You're freaking laughing or you're sobbing at a tragedy. It's probably based on some true story somewhere along the line. This is so sad.
>> Yo, what the [ __ ] man?
>> That was so sad.
>> I I was like, "Oh, interesting. It's like a sad song." And then blam, [ __ ] can't walk.
>> And it was his fault. So, hello.
>> Jesus Christ.
>> That is awful. The song is great.
>> It's really good song though. It's interesting how they're so capable of doing like melodies that are so catchy.
Hence why they did so much um hence why they did so well on the actual uh ringtone.
>> Yes. Because >> the melodies are so incredibly identifiable and that's exactly what you needed for this era of like ringtones.
You needed a melody was like easy to pick out. I feel I don't feel I don't think we have a lot of songs right now that have that in the modern era because we have moved on from that like iconic melody making into 15-second making. So we have evolved. It's the same sort of like sound bite.
>> It also became it didn't become cool.
>> I mean yes it did. We would do edits and things like that.
>> It just stop being cool to have ringtones like ringtones just started off you know >> bring it back. I think that's cool.
probably something's gonna like it's gonna be like I don't know your song that you play in your head or something with a chip in your brain with AI touching your nuts or something at the same time. Um there's the next song is called Kas Kasi Halal.
Yes, I see that.
la.
I could tell.
I like this.
Wow, I love this.
Heat. Heat.
I can be.
I love that.
down.
I could I could you Johnny here, guys.
I got this.
So I got this power.
>> I love that chorus.
>> This song is sick.
>> I love that chorus.
>> Also, he's a good writer, isn't he? A boy.
>> Yeah. freaking >> I think he's the guitarist.
>> He's the guitarist.
>> He's the guitarist.
>> It's so freaking cool.
>> So cool.
I love that [ __ ] This song is sick. I really like how for example they have like a >> they have that um like a it's like a it's not a splash. It's a china >> uh where that da and I really like that mix they have in between the pre chorus to the chorus. It goes like >> that's sick >> and then he goes back to they square it off again. It's that's delicious. They have really good musician.
>> Actually, I read that in this album, the the basist, I think his name was like Noo-Noo or something, he ends up leaving after this. Yeah. Who the [ __ ] knows why. It wasn't a scandal or anything like that. He sort of left. Uh >> maybe because this was like the height of the group's activity. So, it's probably It happens to a lot of fans actually.
>> You know, they become super [ __ ] famous again in 2020.
>> Oh, >> they start touring the world in 2025.
Yeah.
>> That is so cool.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Like they're they're not irrelevant anymore. Like they're not they're not irrelevant now.
>> They were never irrelevant.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Um there's the next song called and that that's not that popular.
The one we like.
>> That's my favorite one.
>> Halal. The next one is called Paka Pasca.
Puska. Let's see if he has a music video.
>> He does son. He loves filming in Egypt.
>> I mean I understand the the hype behind it.
>> How to be in well video. be an Indonesian party.
I am love.
>> What the hell happened?
>> Why would you do that?
>> Oh, they [ __ ] it. It it is a really old movie. Let's see what we It's a really old song. So hilarious. I must watch Wally's new video for Nina Bum Bubble. They have a new video.
>> Oh, okay.
>> See, they like they're like they're very >> Do you know what? I appreciate that. I really do. As a musician, this is one of the things that like create the most perfect stimulation mentally because you you can never really come up with this like natural eusions unless you are like actually involved or exposed to this type of sound.
>> Yeah. You'll never come across this.
Like I think this this is why we love the channel. Yes.
>> This is why I love doing this because we would have never been exposed to this style of rock ever.
>> Yes. And the best part is that obviously because there is we're in the in the world of the internet. Th this comes to like people that have never heard Malayu pop before or like they have absolutely no idea of how incredibly intricate and fun it is to listen to like rock pop rock from Indonesia. And I actually think this is a this is such a cool experience overall. I think these are the the sort of like bands and uh sound music representation that it it really goes beyond just the music making because the product is so well done and the attention to detail is so specific that everything else that comes with it and like the the success that it had culturally actually is a complimentary aspect of the art making. And I will always say if the artist, the band are very they're very um what is it specific about making something good and they don't really care about the commercial success. The commercial success will happen as a byproduct. It'll happen regardless.
>> Yes. Because the product is so high in quality naturally, you know.
>> Well, let us know what you guys thought about it. What an absolute discovery.
Wally for the first time on the channel.
