patreons or patrons if you will uh thank you anthony golden for being a patron here's this question for dr price have you ever heard of the mirror bible a gentleman in south africa did his own paraphrase and has a following that pushes it as being most accurate version i was curious what a new testament scholar might say about it and being that you you said you haven't i've never heard of it let me read you what i think is what he's talking about and it's the mirror bible by uh francis du toi t-o-i-t du toi i don't know it says this people who have stopped reading the bible or never even read it before say about the mirror i have never read anything that touched me so deeply it is a brand new bible i cannot wait to give it to all my friends the mirror bible is a paraphrase from the original greek text while the detailed shades of meaning of every greek word have been closely studied this is done taking into account the consistent context of the entire chapter within the wider epistle and bearing in mind the full context of jesus as the revealer and redeemer of the image and like likeness of the invisible god in human form which is what the message of the bible is all about to assist the reader in their study i have numerically superscribed the greek word and corresponded it with the closest english word in the italicized commentary that follows this is to create a direct comparison of words between the two languages many words used in previous translations have adopted meanings in time that distract from the original thought individual words can greatly influence the interpretation of any conversation for years deliberate as well as uh oblivious errors in translations were repeated and have empowered the religious institutions of the day to influence manipulate and even abuse masses of people consider the word metanoia repentance yeah m-e-t-a-n-o-i-a consisting of two components meta together with us and noise or no no us so it's together with mind uh suggesting a radical mind shift this word has always been translated as repentance which is an old english word borrowed from the latin word penance then they added the re to get even more mileage out of sin consciousness repentance this gross deception led to the perverted doctrines of indulgences where naive ignorant people were led to believe that they never needed to or they they needed to purchase favor from an angry god most cathedrals as well as many ministries were funded with guilt money the bible is a dangerous book exclamation point it has confused and divided more people than any other document scriptures have been used to justify some of the greatest atrocities in human history people were tortured burned to death and multitudes murdered based on somebody's understanding of the scriptures jesus paul and believers throughout the ages face their greatest opposition from those who knew the scriptures if it is such a dangerous document how does one approach the book the mirror unveils the incarnation code as the key that unlocks the mystery message of scripture the romance of the ages is revealed here dr bob what do you think of that what do they say about the author or if anything um let's see so uh here's a user review phenomenal many times we're reading different versions of the bible i even took greek in college but our interpretations are still misleading it's okay example even as far as we have grown in the word repentance we're still off our god leads us out of knowledge it doesn't say much about the author let me pull up the author here and now it seems like there's just books he's just written a bunch of books but does it say give any titles of his books yeah um let's see click like when i click one thing it takes me to another thing and it takes me to uh ideas of truth and revelation in light of the challenge of post-modernism um uh revelation the apocalypse uncovered uh mirror study bible hardcover red and blue cover afrikaans yeah it's a dutch variant in south africa okay including god believes in you divine embrace the logic of his love and the eagle story these are also available on kindle also can't in clar done in order to focus their time on writing and translation they relocated from hermanas in 2015 to a remote farm in swartburg mountains they have also stopped most of their traveling lydia already wrote five amazing children's stories of which one stella's secret is already published in print and on kindle francis continues to be passionately engaged in his translation of the mirror bible which will eventually include the entire new testament as well as select portions of the old the first 200 page edition was published in 2012 the most recent 8th edition mirror bible is now almost 800 pages of bliss this will also be available in a special hardcover edition until the completion of the new testament future editions will only be added as separate books as well as a three volume edition mirror bible the current eighth edition will still be available as a one volume book some of his work is being translated into several african languages as well as chinese russian hungarian german cetera et cetera what do you think sounds like they're an interesting couple yeah i would be interested in seeing a sample of it or someone will have to buy the whole thing but i uh but yeah i'm not familiar with it what do you think about what i read about the whole mistranslation or repentance what do you think about that like how churches have used that to sell indulgences and things like that like use the language to you know and he's trying to get back at the root supposedly what do you what do you think of that do you already kind of red flag some of that and say [Music] like we're going to get to the real truth that's what it sounds like you know what i mean like he's trying to yeah that's always a little bit uh i don't want to say dubious because it implies a negative judgment it's easy to make too much out of that and like usually people say metanoia means a change of mind as in metamorphosis and so on um which is sounds a little too rationalistic actually for the the uh the con seeming contextual meaning of it to make a change and bring forth the fruits of repentance i'm sure he's right i mean you're talking about a reformation of your your lifestyle but i don't know there's uh it's funny there are a couple of uh cardinal sins bible translators and interpreters commit and i guess it shows that like a little knowledge is a dangerous thing even though some of the people that do it are very knowledgeable there's the uh kittle error as it's called because of rudolph kittle who edited the the huge encyclopedic theological dictionary of the new testament where each entry was based on a particular word or phrase from the new testament and the the contributors tended to treat the word every time it appears in the new testament as meaning the same thing which it uh doesn't always any more than any word you pick in in english does and um james barr pointed this out in his book called the semantics of biblical language and the other one is what the amplified bible does where it's an interesting tool like every time there's a word that has apparently a lot of crucial meaning it would give you uh in parenthesis a bunch of possible meanings like you would find in a dictionary and it's like it's up to you to determine which one fits now that's a very interesting exercise because it hones your ability to look at the context and see which one really would fit kind of a multiple choice thing but the problem there is that untutored bible fans read that and tend to think that it means all of those things every time which is very similar to the kittle thing and uh so that's a mistake you that's a a tool for reading all sorts of things into the text that's not the intent and that is an abuse of the amplified bible but that's kind of what happens and so i i wonder like how that if he has some sort of a layman's uh abuse mel well-meaning abuse of the bible but i don't know i'm not saying he does i've never seen it yeah okay so it sounds interesting
