This graduation speech emphasizes that success comes from believing in oneself and maintaining resilience through challenges. The speaker shares her personal journey of overcoming cultural identity struggles, including changing her name to assimilate, and how a teacher's encouragement helped her rediscover her authentic self. The speech teaches that courage means moving forward despite fear, and that individuality matters. Students are encouraged to find their passions, trust their capabilities, and remember that their story matters. The message reinforces that greatness is not defined by where one begins but by the strength, courage, and determination shown as one rises.

My name is Sophie Miley and I am the Student Government Association vice president.
Please join me. Please rise and join me for the national anthem and stay standing for the pledge of allegiance.
Heat.

Please join me for the pledge of allegiance.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
You may be seated.
Please welcome Dariana Amari Smith to the podium.
Sorry y'all.
Good morning everyone.
My name is Dariana Smith and I am honored to stand in front of you today as Cedar Scholes senior advisory board class president.
Today it is my privilege to welcome you to the graduation ceremony celebrating the incredible, accomplished, and unforgettable class of 2026.
On behalf of the class of 2026, we would first like to thank our parents, grandparents, and supportive loved ones in the crowd today. As I look out into the crowd, I see a group of intelligent, hardworking young adults. But parents, I know many of you still see the baby who first learned how to walk, the child you taught their first words, and a little four-year-old you dropped off at prek. I know it is not easy to accept how quickly time has passed, but please remember that this journey would not have been possible without your constant love, guidance, and support.
Next, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the teachers, administration, counselors, and school staff in this building today.
Whether it's stopping by your room just to catch up, begging you not to mark me absent because the Chick-fil-A line was longer than I anticipated, or just needing guidance, you are always there.
We are thankful for school staff that is supportive, attentive, patient, and dedicated in building the foundation for our future. We want to say thank you so much for everything you have done for us. And now to the honores of the evening, the best class of 2026. Please give yourself the biggest round of applause.
It feels like yesterday we were walking into the school for freshmen and hearing our upper classman tell us, "Time flies." We didn't believe them. We smiled, shook our heads, and thought we cannot wait for this to be over. But they were right. These four years have passed quicker than any of us could ever imagine. And whether we're ready or not, this chapter is coming to an end. We all remember that first week of freshman year, trying to find our way around a school that felt so huge, while also racing to be the first one in line at the Jag Cafe before they ran out of our favorite ramen flavor. We remember the stress and long nights and headaches of sophomore chemistry. No offense, Miss Kok or Miss Zimmer. I love you guys. We remembered the annoyance of junior SAT season, but once it finished, we remembered the relief because for the first time, the finish line actually felt real. And now we remember the things that made senior year unforgettable.
Homecoming, senior sunrise, going to prom, laughing with friends, and truly living in the moment. Because deep down we knew there would never be another time quite like this again. But that's okay because while this moment might be grand, each and every one of us will have a future that's even more phenomenal. Each graduate here today has the strength, the spark, and the perseverance to keep growing into that amazing person they want to be. As we walk across the stage today, I want you to reflect on the 12 years of memories, growth, and lessons that you have made.
Please remember that this is not the end of something good, but the beginning of something even greater. Thank you so much, and once again, welcome to the graduation ceremony for the class of 2026.
>> I will now be welcoming Gabriella Morales Flores to the stand.
Good morning everyone.
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gabriela Andrea Morales Flores.
And for me, it is an honor to give a welcome speech in Spanish because this represents our roots, our voice, and everything that we have achieved together.
Gabriel, the Cedar Shows High School.
Gracias.
Mama, me papa.
for Miss foresto.
for much. Gracias Guatemala.
I'm sorry. Now I would like to welcome to the podium Gabrielle Adiser.
Good morning. I am senior advisory boards vice president Gabrielle Odster.
And on behalf of Dr. Clark, I would like to introduce and welcome our distinguished guests who are with us on stage.
guest, if you would please stand as I call your name.
Interim superintendent of the Clark County School District, Dr. Jennifer Scott, >> Interim Deputy Superintendent of Academics and Student Support, Dr. Donna Elder, Executive Director of Leadership Development, Jennifer Martin.
Would all other district cabbage members and members of the board of education please stand to be recognized.
Thank you all for attending and providing Cedar Scholes with the support we need through this year and the years to come.
Now we will have a musical music musical selection performed by our band under the direction of Dr. Devvin Drew.
Thanks.
Heat. Heat.
Thank you.
Well, there Heat.
Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
I'm thinking Good morning parents, teachers, family, friends and most importantly the graduating class of 2026.
My name is Chisaba Ameam and it is an honor to stand before you today as your Cedar Shows High School class of 2026 saludiatoran.
High school has a way of making you question yourself. I was born as Chisoba Stephanie Ameuam in Lagos, Nigeria.
Having a non-English name isn't unusual in Nigerian culture. Parents name their children to speak positivity into their lives and futures. Whether the name is in English or in another language, every name is significant. Chisaba means God protects us.
Growing up in Nigeria, I was quick to brag about my name and its meaning because it represented my culture and connected me to my family and those around me. But I was never just Chisaba.
Within my family, I had a collection of nicknames including Zam, Zabam, Chisabam, and my personal favorite, Chisabanumo.
My f my name was how my family showed their love for me. My name felt like home until it didn't.
I never gave a second thought about my name until I moved to the United States at nine.
It started small with things like classmates hesitating and tilting their heads.
Over time, I realized my name was no longer normal.
Starting school and trying to assimilate in a new country was already difficult, but my accent made it worse.
Teachers would stutter and fumble, spotlighting me as they repeatedly asked the pronunciation of my name.
I was desperate to fit in. And before I knew it, I was Stephanie at school. To me, Stephanie was English, uncomplicated and normal.
It was easier for a while, but deep down, I felt like I was shrinking myself and losing pieces to match the world around me. Stephanie's favorite food was pasta and pizza. Chabat had always been jalof fries or ukulele.
Middle school taught me the importance of meeting the right people.
My best friend met me as Stephanie. But as we grew closer, she became curious about my background.
In sixth grade, she started calling me Chiso or Chisy.
Remind me that I didn't have to erase my culture to be accepted.
From then on, my close friends addressed me as Chisoba.
Even though teachers always defaulted to Stephanie.
Every new school year, when asked my preference, I said either one works, they always chose Stephanie.
It reinforced my belief that it was the easier option. And that changed in 10th grade with Mr. Lavine.
When I gave him the same choice, he insisted on calling me Chidaba.
He said my name wasn't complicated and that I should be proud of it.
Hearing a teacher determined to say my name made me realize that if I wasn't confident in my name, no one else would be either.
High school has a way of making you question yourself. There were moments where many of us felt pressure to have everything figured out, to fit into expectations, to meet impossible standards, or to become the version of ourselves that we thought everyone wanted us to be.
Sometimes, without even realizing it, we shave off little pieces of ourselves just to fit into spaces we think we're supposed to fit in. And those little pieces are what make us who we are. They make us special and should be treasured.
But if there's one thing Cedar has taught me, it's that who you are matters.
Your plans do not have to make sense to everyone else, and your journey does not have to look like someone else's.
Some of us are heading to college. Some are entering the workforce, joining the military, pursuing trades, taking gap years, or still figuring things out. And that's perfectly okay because success doesn't look the same for everybody.
I can't stand up here and pretend to have all the answers about how to move through life because truthfully I'm in the same boat as everyone else trying to figure things out one step at a time.
But what I but what I can say is this.
Trust yourself who you are and what you're capable of. Remember that courage isn't about not being afraid. It's about moving forward anyway.
One of my favorite quotes says, "A tree falls the way it leans." And to me, that means the habits we build, the values we hold, and the people we surround ourselves with shape who we become. So lean towards kindness, toward curiosity, toward courage, and lean toward becoming the version of yourself that feels the most authentic.
Many of us grew up watching Disney Channel and one of my favorite shows was Ant Farm. And as cheesy as it may sound, the theme song stuck with me all these years because underneath everything, the message was actually kind of beautiful.
And while I can't sing the whole thing right now, I want to share a a few of my favorite lines.
Everybody's got their thing. Something different we all bring. Don't you let them clip your wings. We're on fire and we blaze in extraordinary ways. You can dream it, you can be it. If you can feel it, you can believe it. Don't hide your individuality.
You are who you want to be.
It might sound a little funny to take life advice from Disney Channel, but I think there's something really comforting in the idea that we all bring something different to the world and that individ individuality matters and that we shouldn't let fear stop us from becoming who we are meant to be.
Before I end, I want to take a moment to thank the people who helped us get here.
To our parents and families, thank you for your sacrifices, your support, your patience, and for believing in us even when we doubted ourselves.
To my parents especially, thank you for bringing me here and giving me opportunities that laid the foundations for my future.
To my sister, thank you for always guiding me, for sharing what you learned so I wouldn't have to figure everything out alone, and for waking up at the crack of dawn more times than I can count to take me where I needed to be, including today.
To our teachers, counselors, staff, and administration, thank you for everything you do, often without recognition, to support us and help us grow. And especially to Mrs. throne. Thank you for opening my eyes to opportunities I never imagined for myself and for all you've done for me and countless students through FFA and beyond.
And finally, to my best friends, Dariana, Allesandre, Stella, Savannah, Kayn, and Charisma.
Thank you for being my rock these past four years and for helping me find and learn to believe in myself.
Meeting you changed my life and I will always be grateful for every memory we made, every laugh we shared, and every conversation we had.
Class of 2026, as we leave this place, I hope we remember these days because there's no guarantee moments last forever.
One day the people sitting beside us today will become memories and the small moments will matter more than we expected.
So soak this in. Embrace the coming changes. Be brave enough to take opportunities even when they scare you.
And when life feels uncertain, and trust me it will. Remember there is no courage without fear.
We may not know exactly where life will take us. Nevertheless, I believe every single person sitting here today is capable of incredible things.
Congratulations, class of 2036. We did it. Thank you. And go Jags.
Good morning, class of 2026.
I'm Christopher Cook and I'm the validictorian of the class of 2026.
I'm lucky to have grown up in the CCSD school district. I'm a proud Varns Bay, Hillsman Panther, and Cedar Scholes Jaguar.
It is my honor and privilege to greet you and the friends and family who have come to support you. It is amazing to see all the people who care about you and have come to celebrate this enormous accomplishment.
Class of 2026, we are experiencing great change in our lives. But if I could leave you with one message as we go through these changes, it would be to find your passion.
Growing up, my mom made me do at least two sports. I went through many different sports before landing on swimming.
I played basketball, but I never took any shots because I was too scared.
I played soccer, but I couldn't stay focused. I spent a lot of time picking at the grass.
I did tap dance, but I was too lazy to practice on Fridays. And finally, I tried swimming. One seemingly normal day of practice, it all clicked for me. A quick moment that I realized that swimming was my sport.
Can you think back to a time where something you might have never expected becomes your passion because you were willing to try something new?
Passion is what helps many of us overcome obstacles.
As a generation, we face struggles.
COVID hit during our years of middle school and we came to high school not being able to see other people's faces, only their masks. We went from taking Zoom classes at home with hundreds of distractions straight into our high school lives.
We went through middle school without the time and experience to develop that other generations had. Instead of being able to join a club, explore electives, or spend time with friends, we spent time isolated in our own rooms.
Our first couple of years in high school were rough with hallway incidents and of course the bathroom fire.
However, we still found our passions.
For me, it is swimming. For others, it might be basketball, soccer, band, theater, FFA, cheerleading, cedar blueprints, or anything else people decide to dedicate their time to.
By following our passions, we are seeing success.
Our sports teams have done amazing. Our swim team and track and field team did amazing at their state championships. We have the women's soccer player of the year. All three of our bands performed at LGPE where they were rated superior.
Our Cedar Blueprints won numerous awards for their amazing works.
And Cedar Scholes was named an AP honor school. And as a class, we have been awarded over $3.5 million in scholarships.
Our passions in high school have also opened new opportunities for us. Some of us are attending universities like the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Charleston Southern University, Albany State University, and the University of South Carolina.
Some of us are entering the workforce, pursuing technical programs, enlisting in the military, or still finding our passion.
Both as a generation and as graduating high school students, our futures are filled with huge change. We might have plans on what we want to do. We might not. Despite how much we wish we could tell the future, it is impossible to know for sure.
Situations and plans might change.
will new meet new people and new opportunities might arise.
The only thing we can control is the present. We can control what we decide to do right now.
We should live with the courage to find what we are passionate about and then decide to enjoy it in the moment.
We should decide to enjoy doing what we love with the people that we love. You never know what the future holds, but what you can do is follow your passion and enjoy the moment.
As my speech and our time together at Cedar comes to a close, I want us to enjoy our last moments together.
I want us to think about all we have accomplished these past four years.
Despite the setbacks we have faced, I want us to recognize what we have discovered as our passions and how we have worked for our passions.
One of the greatest scientists in history, Albert Einstein, once said, "I have no special talents. I'm only passionately curious."
I want us to remember that no matter what happens, find something you care about and success will follow. The last thing I want to say is congratulations.
You did it. You are amazing and you will continue to do great things in life.
Thank you. And please welcome our principal, Dr. Macka Clark, to the podium.
Good morning to our proud parents, devoted families, faithful friends, Dr. Jennifer Scott, our interim superintendent of the Clark County School District, esteemed members of the Clark County Board of Education, district cabinet members, the dedicated falcony and staff of Cedar Shows High School, honored guests, our lovely Tara Stewart, who is our coordinator for graduation, and most importantly, the oh so lit Cedar Shows class of 26.
Today is yours. This is your story. This is your journey. This is your moment.
And this is your purpose to fulfill.
As I stand before you today and I look across this stage in this arena, I see excellence.
I see resilience.
I see determination.
I see 347 graduates.
Yes.
Prepared to prepared to make an impact on the world around us.
and that deserves a celebration.
Each of you arrived at this moment through your own unique journey. Along the way, right here in the heart of the shows, surrounded by the power of East Side Pride, you discovered new strengths, built lasting relationships, and grew into the individuals sitting before us today. But as you prepare to cross this stage and step out into the world, I want to ask you a question.
How will you fill your cup once you leave Cedar Shoes High School?
For the last four years, your cups have been poured into by this community, by teachers who didn't give up on you, by families who supported you, and by friends who walked alongside you.
Tomorrow the picture gets handed to you. You become solely responsible for what goes into your cup. Will you fill it with passion, knowledge, and purpose?
Or will you let the distractions of the world drain you dry?
In the next 5 to 10 years, will your cup be half empty or half full?
Class of 26, don't settle for halfway.
Don't look at your cup as half empty or half full. Look at it as overflowing.
Keep pouring into yourself. Keep pouring into your goals and keep pouring into your community until greatness runs over the brim. You will face challenges and obstacles along the way. Do not allow barriers to stop you from becoming everything you were created to be. As the saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup. And class of 2026, you have spent the last four years doing the heavy heavy lifting to fill your cup. You filled your cup every time you chose growth over excuses.
You filled your cup every time you chose discipline over distractions. You filled your cup every time you chose purpose over fear. Now, as you step into the future, there will be moments in life when no matter how hard you work, how much you grow, or how much you try to prove yourself, some people will try to see you through an old lens.
one shaped by stereotypes, limitations, or assumptions.
But do not let that discourage you. Do not let that define you. And do not let that limit you. Because there is something about the East Side Pride. We don't give up. We don't fold. We keep pushing. We keep rising.
This class has proven that the students of Cedar Shoes High School do not just meet the bar, they exceed the bar.
You have proven to everyone in the world that greatness lives, breathes, and thrives on the east side.
This class has collectively received over $2.5 million in scholarships and counting, including a prestigious Gate Scholar, Miss Dariana Smith, over 42 local organizations right here in the Athens community, including the Cedar Shows High School Alumni Association, and Lee gave over $140,000 in scholarships.
And we are making history as the first school district where our graduating seniors received a $1,000 investment portfolio through gifted savings. Yes, cla.
So when people ask where greatness come from, you better let them know greatness comes from CHOs High School.
And it shows in every single path represented here today whether you will be continuing your educational journey at Duke UNG Young Harris, Athens Tech, Albin State, Fort Valley, Florida&M or alongside Christopher Cole and Shazoba Emuan at Georgia Tech.
Devin Huard at Charleston Southern or Ella Conway at Georgia State.
Whether you have chosen to defend our country through military enlistment like Larry Spinford or Courtney Jones or whether you're stepping directly into the workforce with great benefits like CJ Long or Anthony Castro Sto or Brandon Morales Flores or Trayvon Tucker.
Every pathway represented in this room is a reflection of purpose and promise.
Class of 2026, know who you are.
Know your value.
Know your power.
And never minimize yourself just to make others in the room feel comfortable.
You are capable.
You are prepared.
And you belong in every single room your future opens for you. Do not allow fear to make decisions for your life. Fear will always exist, but courage means you keep walking anyway.
Stop looking for permission to lay your own blueprint.
Do not be afraid to pursue your own path and build a future that aligns with your values, visions, and your sense of purpose. Be proud of the growth, wisdom, and strength you gained along the way because your story does matter.
Wherever life takes you, never forget your foundation was built.
Never forget the teachers, coaches, counselors, administrators, mentors, families, and friends that helped shape you into who you are today. Carry yourselves with purpose and pride. Be confident enough to break barriers, bold enough to challenge limits, and compassionate enough to lift others as you climb.
Class of 2026, before I leave the stage, remember this.
You are the birthday.
You are the celebration.
You are the main character.
And more than ever, you are you are proof that greatness is not defined by where you begin, but by the strength, courage, and determination you show as you rise. Because what you carry is bigger than a piece of paper. You carry legacy. You carry hope. And you carry the future of Cedar Scholes High School.
So, as you step out these doors and into your destiny, I leave you with one final question to carry with you. In the next 5 to 10 years, how will you fill your cup? And I say to you, class of 2026, don't just fill it, make it overflow with greatness.
So walk with com, walk with confidence, walk with purpose, walk with Jaguar pride. You are forever one seedater.
Congratulations class of 2026.

>> Good afternoon, Cedar Scholes, class of 2026. My name is Lily Cohen, your 2026 Student Government Association President. Go ahead and make sure that your tassel is in the front of your cabinets on the right side.
All right.
Although we all walked the same halls and shared the same classrooms, all of us had vastly different high school experiences.
When you look around at your peers, you may know many of their stories, but you may not know the things that each of them fought through just to sit here today.
In one way or another, each of you have persevered through difficult times and found a way to carry on when it felt like the world was against you. And even when the pressure of school work weighed heavy, you did what you had to do to walk this stage.
There will still be times of uncertainty for all of us in the future. But if you made it long enough to be here today, I'm confident that your resilience will allow you to push past the battles you've yet to face.
Let's go ahead and write a happy ending to this chapter in our lives. Class of 2026, please rise and remain standing.
I am honored to ask you all to join me as we turn our tassels from the right to the left side and become graduates of Cedar Falls High School.
