DFW Weather: Possibly severe storms and rain in the forecast todayAdded:
So, this will be a late morning, early afternoon event, it looks like, across North Texas. Quiet out there for you right now. If you have some flight out of DFW airport this morning or early this morning, not going to be impacted.
By midday, though, I do think that will begin to change and that will continue on into the early afternoon hours. So, something for you to keep in mind as you get going here this morning. It is warm.
It is muggy once again. Still 80° out there for you right now. So, those temperatures haven't cooled off much and those winds, they're gusting to 23 miles per hour. So everyone once again around the metroplex heading out the door this morning. Upper 70s right around 80 degrees. So very warm out there. 80 getting out to Arlington. 81 still heading out to Richardson here this morning. Those upper 70s as we get out to Plano and Fris here for you this morning. Both at 78. Now we'll be watching that cold front as it drops its way into the area a little bit later today. Can't rule out an isolated shower before then. And I think a few more will start to develop after sunrise. And we'll start to talk about a few more thunderstorms developing out ahead of that front. still well up into Oklahoma now, but it will be working its way slowly but surely on to the south. So, as we look at our timecast, taking us toward noon time today, here's how things may look. I think we'll begin to see some isolated thunderstorms out ahead of the main line of thunderstorms that works its way in as we head toward late morning. But a few isolated showers and thunderstorms as we head into that 910 a.m. time frame across North Texas.
But again, will be widespread across the area with the showers and thunderstorms pushing through. That takes you ahead to around 2:00 p.m. here this afternoon.
And then as we head home later today, maybe the stronger thunderstorms pushing a little further east. But we will still have rain and thunderstorms in and around most of North Texas as we head toward 4:00 here this afternoon as well.
And then as we head a little bit later into the afternoon and evening, things do begin to wind down just a little bit.
And we'll catch a little bit of a lull, I think, as we get into uh late uh tonight and heading on into Wednesday.
But we do have that severe weather risk late this morning into the afternoon. We are talking about maybe some quarter plus size hail. Those 50 60 mile perph winds. You see level two over all of North Texas. Now, not everyone will see severe thunderstorms for today, but we could be talking about some locally heavy rain in a few places later today as well. So, of course, we'll be here keeping you updated throughout the morning. Now, it's not just us here in North Texas that we're talking about severe weather. Another outbreak of strong severe thunderstorms across the Midwest. I do want to bring Marielle in talking more about that.
>> Yeah, and I want to show you what's going on right now before I get into what is going to happen here as the day goes on. So, look at this. This is from Oklahoma towards areas of the Midwest. A cold front swinging through helping prompt some showers and thunderstorms in the area. Lot of lightning with these these expected to become more of a wind concern as the day goes on. But you can see that long line extending several states and this after a very active afternoon yesterday with several reports of tornadoes. Now this is our severe weather outlook for today. Greg was honing in on North Texas, but look at how large this se section is. This is a level two out of five. That is still considered a low-end threat. However, with this line of showers and thunderstorms, 60 plus mileph wind speeds possible, quarter size hill or larger, specifically anywhere from Oklahoma towards about Illinois into Indiana and Ohio. And not ruling out isolated tornadoes, although the threat for that outside of the state is actually looking uh pretty low. It's looking pretty low across the country today. But look at how this kind of moves in. This will happen throughout the morning as that front pushes through. We'll see more activity in areas like Oklahoma, but look at this.
Also, Central Texas, Southeast Texas getting in on some of that activity as the afternoon goes on. So, we'll be watching this, of course, and we'll be watching the potential for more rain as the week goes on, Greg.
>> Yeah, we do have more rain on the way across North Texas. So, we'll have the severe weather threat today, but that will taper off as we go through the rest of the week. And some of that rain again, could be locally heavy across the area. Flooding could become a concern maybe as we head on into Thursday. There we are talking about another round of widespread rain and thunderstorms across the area then. So we'll keep those at temperatures lower 80s. A little bit of a dip tomorrow heading into Thursday.
Maybe not getting out of the 70s, but you see more widespread rain and thunderstorms expected on Thursday. And again, that's the day we could see a little more flooding uh being a bigger concern across North Texas. Now, as we head into the holiday weekend, Friday, Saturday, going on into Memorial Day Monday, we will have at least some scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms. Going with about a 30 to 40% coverage as we get into the weekend there through Sunday. And then on Monday, Memorial Day, slight chance going with about a 20% coverage with the showers and thunderstorms there. And those temperatures are going to stay pretty seasonable for us as we go through the rest of the extended forecast there over the next 14 days.
Spark.
