Yeah. So, I requested that you compile questions related to the learning that we've covered so far which is um day one up to day 10. H that is your module one up to module 7. So is there any questions on what what we've covered so far? I'm waiting for questions so that we can discuss together the questions. Remember that um we are only going to revise module 1 to 7 and when we meet again uh before the the day before the final assessment which will be on the 28th then we'll be doing the remaining modules which will be module 8 up to module 11.

[00:10:31]So module 2 is the overview of mining industry. Um 5.1 is the mining industry in South Africa. That is the whole overview and um that covers all the minerals that we we are handling in the country that we are exploring and the de historical develop development of mining the economic importance and the major minerals in South Africa and the structure of the mining industry our regulatory bodies labor organizations and the regulatory framework which is our mine health and safety act, the minerals and petroleum resources development act and the occupational health and safety act. So when it comes to uh m the mining industry the main uh act that uh guides the industry is the mine health and safety act along with the minerals and uh mineral and petroleum resources development act but our main legislation is mine health and safety act in terms of safety and there we've got the safety challenges in the South African mining industry. Please remember that we've got um different types of uh mining uh uh activities. We've got your open cast and we've got underground mining and the hazards that come with each and every with each of these um methods of mining.

[00:11:58]They they differ. So the challenges will also not be the same on the basis of whether it's an open cast or whether it's um underground mining. The hazards will be different.

[00:12:12]So that is just an overview. I need you to ask me specific questions so that when I answer I can be specific answer a specific question.

But guys, also remember that um we've got questions inside the the learner guide itself that test how much you've learned and how much you know on what you have covered. So, over and above that, if you still want me to compile more questions, I will do that.

[00:22:31]What is the hierarchy of ranks of people doing the examination? I saw you talking about the workplace inspection in the hierarchy of ranks. I I I take it you're referring to the jobs uh the responsible people that will go into the area to do the inspection.

[00:23:21]Uh ground instability is caused ground instability is when a rock or soil can't hold up itself anymore. It can be caused by weak rock type blasting or vibrations. That's correct.

[00:23:37]uh during blasting activities the the rock muscles they become loosened up because that the whole purpose of blasting is to loosen up the rocks so that we are able to extract the ore that uh we will be looking for. So the ground will become instable and then we will need to do things like rock support uh to keep the rocks in in in in a stable position. So, we we are now at that fire triangle. Um I seem to be battling to [laughter] scroll down.

[00:24:42]Somebody t says ground instability is caused by heavy machinery, blasting or traffic can make the ground move or crack, but it's mostly caused by blasting activities, production activities.

[00:24:57]Drilling can also cause uh uh ground instability. Do remember that before we do blasting, there is drilling activities first before uh there can be blasting happening.

[00:25:14]Okay, somebody's asked answering the fire triangle. So the fire triangle are fuel, heat, and oxygen and precautions is to adhere to PPE.

[00:25:25]H well, yes, the fire triangle is fuel, heat, and oxygen. Without one of these elements, you cannot have a fire. But the most important thing when it comes to fire precaution is to ensure that you maintain good housekeeping because you need to look at your common causes of fires which is poor housekeeping um flammable gases and vapors. The presence of flammable gases and vapors.

[00:25:51]If you're working in a confined space and you've got the presence of uh vapors, those they you need to ventilate properly before you can do any hot work activities and uh PPE. Yes, certainly at all times, but it is not a major precaution when it comes to um fire safety. Yeah. Smoking also you need to be smoking in designated areas.

[00:26:22]Um uh storage of uh flammable chemicals also they have to be stored in designated areas and they have to be labeled and people must be taken for training on how to handle a safe a fire.

[00:26:38]You need to have a fire warden in place.

[00:26:41]you have to have your evacuation plans and and and and the list is quite long.

[00:26:46]So, I'll make a separate document like I said regarding uh all the questions that you're asking and probably maybe also a an audio.

[00:27:00]How does monitoring improve safety performance?

[00:27:34]Somebody is saying okay to before I go to the scope a very interesting question that comes up the whole time.

[00:27:42]So um chlorine torch cutting is a metal cutting process that uses a high temperature flame and oxygen to cut through material especially steel. Okay. I didn't see the question on torch cutting. Yes, that is what torch cutting is. It's um when they using oxy oxygen and acetylene uh gases to cut metal. Yeah. the same gases that they use for welding but in this instance it will be an open flame to cut through metal.

[00:28:17]Okay, I will also touch on uh torch cutting also just to give some clarity on that and um am I going to give you a scope? Yes, I am going to give you guys a scope. I will not leave you in the dark or in the cold. I'll touch a little little bit and give you some hints as to what is likely to be asked and the structure of the examination on our last day of revision.

[00:28:51]Next week uh on the 27th I will give you the structure of the examination, how the examination will be structured and the dos and don'ts of the exam. So ground instability is also caused by bad support of rocks and uh cysmic um events. So when you you burying down rocks underground, you need to follow the bearing steps and wash and wash it. I'm bad typing family. I don't know. Are you talking about um the tableafula? What you referring to?

[00:29:29]Yeah, but in any case, she is correct when she says rock instability is caused by bad support of rocks and cysmic events. Um, cysmic events are your movements underground, your kind of like um uh what you call this thing forgot what is cysmic events. But it's more like your when you when your when your ground is shaking, you know. Um I'll I'll come with the uh geological term for when the ground is shaking.

[00:30:00]It's it's some events that happen from time to time, but they are mostly prone in the mining environment.

[00:30:38]Yeah, your cismic events is things like your earthquakes, man. Um those kind of things they happen the earthquakes happen a lot in in the underground because already we have got um you know the the ground it's not in its natural form anymore because it has been tempered with. So we get a lot of um systemic events in the form of earthquakes underground.

[00:31:01]Um, ground instability is typically caused by factors that weaken or shift surface material commonly include natural factors, human activities, and soil or rock conditions. That's correct. And um, examples of health, environment, safety, hazards. Okay. What is root cause analysis?

[00:31:26]Uh, is it okay to use answers from Google?

[00:31:32]I was explaining to somebody the other day saying um you know you you can use answers from anywhere provided that the answers are accurate. So your answer should mostly be based on your understanding but your your your main guide is your learner guide that is your main source of information of of um point of reference rather let's put it like that. So if you have to refer to anything that would be your learner guide but you can use answers that are based on your understanding. So you don't have to put it exactly as it is in the learner guide.

[00:32:12]Uh root cause is a systematic method of identifying the underlying reasons for an incident or problem to pre to prevent it from happening again. That is correct. A recourse is a method of identifying the main causes of an incident, not your superficial or your rather your immediate causes. So there's methods that are used to to conduct a root cause analysis. I'll take down that as well and we'll include it in the notes that I'm going to share. I'm only going to share um an audio on the questions that have been asked. Anything that's not part of this I am not going to include. I take it this is module one up to module 7 cuz we are no longer on module 2 only. Now we have moved root cause analysis.

Uh nurse Shabangu, I have already mentioned that I'm going to give you the scope on the day before the final assessment on the 27th or would you rather have it earlier than that because that was my plan because we're going to have another session where we'll be revising the remaining chapters. So the plan was to give you the scope on that day. I don't know you you are allowed to to comment and let me know how how soon would you like to have the scope but I don't see the purpose of giving you the scope before we have even concluded the learning to me personally it doesn't make sense occupational health and safety monitoring involves tracking workplace environments safety systems and employee well-being by I mean to prevent and accidents, illnesses and legal breaches.

[00:43:01]Yes. But you can further tell us or elaborate to say how is this uh tracking done. So it's normally done through your audits and your um inspections.

[00:43:16]So that is how the monitoring is done and it involves it is does certainly involve tracking workplace environments, safety systems and employee wellbeing by actively um you know identifying hazards. As you do your your your your audits and inspections you will be identifying hazards and that will take you to those steps of um your hire process.

Uh ma'am can you please send a scope early so that we can know what to study or concentrate on for modules that we already revised. I think I will be it will be easy that way guys like I said anyway I don't know I will I will I will share the scope but I don't want to share it too early. I will share it next week around Tuesday. I don't want to share it too early before you do the other modules because if I share the scope, you are not going to study the rest of the content that's inside your learner guide. You are only going to be looking for those who have not yet finished the learner guide. You are only going to be looking at what I would have like highlighted as the scope. That is my fear because we are not learning to forget. We are not learning uh questions that are going to come out in the final assessment. We are learning the content everything that is inside the book. Remember that this is important for us when we go to the workplaces. We are they are not we are not only going to do what we wrote in the exam. So we're going to holistically be doing everything that is expected of a safety officer. So that is the reason the main reason why I don't want to give you the scope. Imagine if I were to give you the scope when we starting with with the course just at the beginning. I'm already giving you the scope. I'm actually I'll actually be saying do not study. Just go and do what what I say you should be doing in preparation for the exam.

[00:50:34]You will not be given Wi-Fi. We won't be sub uh supplying with Wi-Fi. Remember, if you're writing from home, you need to have your own data in place. So, at the at our facilities, we do have Wi-Fi, but sometimes it buffers because of it will be carrying too many people. Remember that our groups are very big and as a result you need to ensure that at least as one as a bare minimum you've got your own data considering that everything is coming from our end.

So the notes are just there to you know to summarize things and give you a brief idea of what's going on. So what is the purpose of an investigation?
