This match proves that 50,000 APM is just a vanity metric when the underlying logic fails to grasp fundamental strategic synergies like unit protection. It is a fascinating case study in how tactical oversight can render raw computational superiority completely irrelevant.

50,000 APM EPIC AI GAME! - ArgoBot vs BenBotBC - Starcraft 2 AIAdded:
All righty, welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. It is Laugh and Games here.
I'm back with another StarCraft II one versus one bot AI cast.
We have got ourselves what should be a good one here today as it's going to be two very epic late game bots taking each other on.
In the upper right of torches, we have got Argo bot, the Protoss bot that does have some, I believe, gateway builds, but in my mind it is a very sort of sky toss bot, so we'll see how it's going to do against perhaps the best late game bot there is, Ben Bot BC, the blue Terran bot.
Uh always fun to watch, and we'll see how it's going to handle this Protoss as we do have a little bit of a bug out the gate for Argo bot. That's very unfortunate. It wants to place this gateway, but the it's just not happening. These probes are getting their wires crossed. Fortunately, it does build the gateway in a different position after a moment, so at least that's good redundancy. As long as it wasn't trying to build like a second, like as long as that's not the second gateway and it just skipped the first one, but anyway, before we get too far into this one, ladies and gentlemen, click that like button if you enjoy these daily bot videos, leave a comment down below saying more bots if you want to see more of these bot matches as we get a bit of a cheeky proxy bunker going up from Ben Bot.
Um yeah.
Subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. If you want to get involved in the bot scene, AIarena.net is the place to be where all these games are created.
And if you want to get the weekly bonus video, consider becoming a YouTube member as this week it was Ares versus Avocados, which was a very fun match, so as this game gets started, Ben Bot does get up its bunker. It is not breached, it is not shut down or interrupted at all. Uh this is a very common thing for Ben Bot to do. It's a really powerful strategy for a relatively small investment as that bunker is beginning to get filled up. It will prevent Argo Bot from taking its natural base, but Argo Bot has an interesting solution to that, which is apparently just proxy a Nexus, which is not something I've seen from bots before or not often, anyway.
As uh yeah, I wonder if that's just a response to this kind of proxy or just the build in general from Argo Bot as uh I really like that. For those of you that don't know, many StarCraft II bots, they basically count bases or and check expansion timings to sort of determine how greedy and how safe they need to be, but of course they don't all scout the top left corner, so Ben Bot is probably just thinking it's up against a one-base Protoss currently, which may actually make it play a little bit safer. I mean, Ben Bot always plays it very safe, but we'll see how it uh proceeds with that. This is something I could definitely catch a lot of bots off guard. We do have the one stalker for Argo Bot sitting inside the main base.
There's no way Ben Bot will get up that ramp with the marines going to try getting a little bit of a scout off, but as we can see, oh, was that a recall on the probes? It was a recall on the probes from Argo Bot. So, I love how smart this is from the author. The main base was probably getting oversaturated, so recall those probes. It allows the Protoss to maintain that solid wall while also getting up the expansion and getting it saturated, so it's like a one base, but it's two bases. And that yeah, that's really cool from Argo Bot. Um makes me want It makes me want to watch more of its games and see like is this a one base or like is this a reaction or something it does every game?
Um the fact that it's got the recall baked into it is just really smart.
Um it's something that again, while like a single proxy bunker, not that strong in a human match because humans will counterattack or just, you know, ignore it kind of, whereas bots, they can be punished heavier by it. Something like this from Argo Bot probably not necessarily very good against people because people may be more likely to scout out all the corners upon doing the mental math, whereas bots, not necessarily. So, Argo Bot is going for its one-base Tempest. Ben Bot has identified this and is producing two Vikings at a time, but this is something Ben Bot has really struggled with in the past.
Um as uh yeah, Tempest, they require a commitment to deal with. Ben Bot, they It's usually had the response build Vikings, that kind of thing. It just doesn't necessarily always come together, so we'll see whether it can uh yeah, actually deal with them this time, maybe eventually find Argo Bot's hidden base in the upper left. That would be a big deal. The mothership for Argo Bot's actually building at the proxy Nexus as uh yeah, that could be interesting. I doubt a recall's going to be used, but I just didn't even really talk about it.
There's a mothership on the way. Um not just Tempest, Tempest and mothership. I don't see the logic behind using this for like a recall play or something like that as now there's five Tempest.
They are starting to move out. Ben Bot does have its third base landed, and it's got a really nice Viking count.
Like when you think of Terran dealing with Protoss, 13 Vikings is a good way to go.
Um the difficulties for the Terran kind of arise more when the when the Tempest combo up with the stalkers, so we'll see if Ben Bot runs into difficulty with that, but if the Vikings honestly just commit on in, they'll do fine. They grab two, almost getting a third. They will get a third as one of the Tempest was left out of the recall.
Um yeah, Ben Bot really shutting this build down, it seems, just by honestly countering Tempest, building up its own economy. The mothership at the start of the game was a nice kind of freebie, but it seems that a bot that just builds Tempest versus a bot that just continuously produces two Vikings at a time, the Vikings will win.
Like the fact that Ben Bot scouted it early, made the adjustments it needed to is a really nice touch, and uh it's getting, let's see, two one upgrades on the way, so it will have better upgrades than the Protoss. Like when you think of Terran difficulties with Tempest, it's with the early rush in that the Terran doesn't have enough anti-air that the Tempest can kind of whittle them down and pick pick them pick them off as time goes on, but then the other difficulty, particularly for bots, is like when there's stalkers under the Tempest because the stalkers, they zone out the Vikings so the Tempest are protected while they do their thing.
Um but that didn't happen for Argobot there. The Tempests, they were not protected by the Stalkers, so Benbot was able to freely dive without being punished at all.
So, we'll have to pay attention to that positioning as the game goes on because that is massively important. Argobot is getting a plus one attack, getting a blink, more Stalkers on the way it seems to be wanting to attack away from the Tempest.
I'm a big fan of the blink Stalkers to support the Tempest, but we'll see.
Like, is it going to be mass Stalker Tempest or is it just going to go into Stalkers? For now, the Protoss is getting ready to move out, but there's still 16 Vikings from Benbot. They've got 1-1, so they're just going to like annihilate what the Protoss has. We've got two Widow Mines being revealed by the Oracle, so good programming for Argobot to realize where they are to be able to go pick them off. Will Benbot move in? And look at that, yeah, Benbot is going for it as the Vikings commit on towards the Tempest. do pick off the Oracle, but then the Stalkers of Argobot do come in as I was talking about, and that makes it a lot more complicated for the pathing on the Vikings. Benbot's pathing kind of falls to pieces as the Stalkers commit on in on top of the planetary. They go very deep in. It forces the Vikings to scatter. Now, the concern for Argobot is that the Stalkers actually went too far in, which means they are not really present to protect the Tempest anymore. What's the Viking count? It's been whittled down to 12, and there is still eight Tempest. So, Benbot all of a sudden maybe having a bit more difficulty. We've got seven Vikings at a time being produced though.
Benbot really committed to get the production that it needed in case a reset like this kind of did happen.
We've even got a Thor on the way, which with its massive ground to air can really zone out the Tempest, too. The Mothership is using its cloak to keep these units invisible. Battlecruiser goes on in, drops the Yamato Cannon, deletes the Mothership. Benbot even used a scan for good measure. Looks like another Oracle gets picked off during this. Benbot is still afraid to dive in.
We get a random recall from Argobot trying to save some of those units. It kind of just recalls half its force. The two Vikings being very brave are diving after the Tempest. Beautiful split from Argobot on those Tempest. The pathing just looks so cool when units kind of do what they need to do en masse. As we've now got Benbot coming in with lots of Vikings once more. The Tempest though heavily outgunned. And yeah, that's not great for Argobot.
Nothing to support the Tempest. We see what happens when the Stalkers are gone.
The Vikings, they just they're doing exactly what they're supposed to do. It It becomes a problem for Terran bots when there's Stalkers to protect the Tempest, but Argobot hasn't been doing that as well as it needs to.
These Tempest, they are falling back to the batteries, to the main base production. So, Benbot's probably gone as far as it can in this case. But, look at this. The blue Terran bot has got five bases up and is securing a sixth while this goes on. The upgrades are phenomenal from Benbot as it's already getting plus three armor on the way.
So, like its Vikings are just so much better than the Tempest. We do have some of them getting way too aggressive though, trying to path in towards the main base of Argobot. Uh it's like, guys, it's time to go home. That's that's the Protoss's base.
Um I do really enjoy the dive behavior from Benbot because you do need a commitment onto the Tempest. I think that might have been a little bit far, and they got a little excited, but um honestly, Benbot's been doing a really great job against Argobot. Maybe lacking the ground army to go punish the Protoss once it does get a nice cleanup, but we're now getting Battlecruisers on the way. There's already one out. We're getting a second one. Looking at the units lost, it is 25 Vikings to 10 Tempest, three Oracles, two Motherships.
That's not a bad trade for the Terran.
25 dead Vikings is a significant number though.
Um so, Argobot has been trading out against Benbot. Looks like we've got a Thor actually stuck for Benbot. It's stuck behind the two tanks and the Widow Mines. And this is the pain of being a bot author. Like, you have to consider not just buildings, which are kind of static things generally, but like your own units like tanks as a consideration.
And this may really mess with the pathing of Benbot. We'll have to see.
These Thors, they probably want to be grouped up and do their thing, but instead, Benbot, it's like, nope, that Thor is stuck in There's another one on the way. Oh, no, it's probably going to pop out on the same side, too. Oh, that's disastrous. Oh, no, Benbot locking its two Thors in, so it will be fighting without that support. We do have Battlecruisers for Benbot, which are good, but two Thors would really be helping out here right now as Benbot is skirmishing with the Tempest. This is exactly what Argobot wants to happen.
The one Thor that can get out is coming forward, which is nice to see, but this is the power of the Tempest getting free shots off while these fights take place.
Benbot is kind of pulling its Vikings back, but now we're up to 27 dead Vikings for not really anything dead of the Protoss. Argobot's getting close to that maxed out mark, too. Which is a little scary to be maxed out versus maxed out because it means Benbot doesn't really have the numbers advantage like it did when it took those first good fights. Now, the one Thor on the ground is good, but it will not be able to compete with all these Stalkers and the Immortal. The Battlecruisers will help out to deal with the Stalkers though, so then we get this really weird dynamic where we've got Tempest countering the Battlecruisers, the Vikings countering the Tempest, the Stalkers countering the Vikings, the Thors countering the Stalkers, and then the Immortal countering the Thors. So, uh just gets very wacky. We did have a really strange recall from Argobot once again. I guess it realizes when the Vikings are kind of in dive mode and tries to prevent that, but the success on that has been kind of questionable at this point, I think.
Now, there are triple cannons being produced by Argobot.
And uh so, it is getting up another base. The Protoss has had a slower economy than the Terran. Both of these bots are in a very healthy economy. Just Benbot was quicker to get up those extra bases. Now, we've got a planetary under assault. Oracle flies right over a turret and gets killed. The Stalkers are committing on in once again. Committing on in against planetaries is what you want to do except when you've got Tempest, which need to be protected by those Stalkers. We get a double scan from Benbot, so that's not ideal.
Vikings delete that Mothership. So, the Mothership just is gone again. A Battlecruiser eats a bunch of Tempest shots, but it does survive.
I don't know if it would have died there if there wasn't such an upgrade discrepancy, but now Argobot is pressuring with the Tempest once again.
We It's really important to keep eyes on these two Stalkers though. If the two Stalkers die, Benbot's programming may just say, all right, dive on those Tempest.
As this game continues on, it's been fairly even resource lost-wise. Um Benbot losing 34 Vikings. Argobot is moving around with its Tempest. Looks like it may have wanted to attack this planetary as Benbot does it still have the two stuck Thors? Yes, it does. That is heartbreaking. There's even a couple Marauders getting mixed in there now, too. So, that's quite painful for Benbot.
And uh yeah, let's see here as Vikings are able to kill an Oracle again. Argobot's playing it a little bit fast and loose with those as the sixth one dies this game. We've got this planetary still safe. The one Thor is moving out and about. Benbot's repairing this planetary, but the Tempest are shooting away. Tectonic destabilizers means Tempest destroy buildings, but Benbot's trying to do something about it. We get a Yamato Cannon, but the Battlecruiser dies. Definitely a bit bold, but look at this, there's no Stalkers to support the Tempest. Once again, Argobot's got 11 Tempest. Benbot's 15 Vikings are going for it, and Vikings are very good against Tempest when they actually get those volleys off, and that's exactly what we're seeing right now. This is good news for Benbot as it commits on in killing off Tempest. The retreat from Argobot is pretty good. We've got some Zealots and Stalkers coming in to help out. Benbot does turn around.
Um Benbot is still getting more upgrades as it gets plus three armor. It is getting marine upgrades as this game goes on. Yamato Cannon kills off a prism. Nice targeting from Benbot. We do have Tempest causing problems. There's the bulk of them coming in for Argobot.
A new Mothership is there. We get a scan dropped as the Immortal gets killed.
There's marines from Benbot. More Marauders being produced. We still have stuck units grouped up here though.
Benbot fighting with about being down about 20 supply compared to what it should do. If it had all that supply, who knows, maybe it would just be crushing these fights. The planetary's under pressure. Tempest are coming on in going to kill the turret, then maybe prioritize the SCVs, so it won't be repaired. Vikings though realize as soon as those Tempest are unprotected, Benbot is really sending it. Now, the Tempest are getting some upgrades, so they're not dying as quickly, which is unfortunate for Benbot. The Mothership taking some heat, but it does survive, retreats to the battery. Resources lost still very, very even.
All things considered to be almost 20 minutes into a game and to be within 2,000 resources of each other, that's pretty darn close. Now, Benbot may lose a planetary, which will definitely hurt as this base is going to go down.
Battlecruiser launches a Yamato Cannon.
It doesn't kill the Mothership. That thing is beefy. And then we do have the Tempest still causing problems. So, Benbot just having a bit of a tough go here. The tank is still present defending this planetary as Argobot's coming on in with way too few units. We do have these two Thors just being stationary defenses. They're basically turrets at this point, but the Vikings they do find an isolated Tempest. Some of them get recalled, so there's that poor behavior from Argobot as it splits up its Tempest count. You should either recall pretty much everything or nothing, I think, as splitting your army is not what you want to do. We've got the Mothership out and about only one Tempest to support it. We get a nice time warp as more Tempests are coming in. Argobot still got the bigger army as Benbot had a tough time keeping its economy up. Vikings though are grabbing a couple of Tempest. The Mothership might go down. We'll see one more volley and it dies. No, it stays alive for now.
We do have Argobot maybe going to struggle to clean up this Widow Mine.
Benbot Oh, it did actually get its Thors out at some point. I'm not sure how those Thors got out of there, but they did stop they did stop bugging. We've got a random Widow Mine here maybe helping zoning out some of these units.
Argobot seems to be doing a good job of avoiding them. Although as I say that a turret gets killed by a Widow Mine coming off of cool down. Observers are being produced this game to provide vision. Four have died so far. There's currently just one on the map, but Benbot's under a lot of pressure here.
Those Thors were free. Pardon me, I want to rewind to see what got these Thors out.
Um was it just like a pathing issue or did something actually die? Uh we've Yeah, they're kind of just grouping up here.
The tanks on siege momentarily. Okay, they unsiege just for a second. Um I'm not sure what that was in response to maybe in response to like the Tempest closing in or something like that. We do have the game continuing on. We saw this as the Tempests are going down. So, things may be a little different now as Benbot has got two extra Thors at its disposal and freeing those units is a big big deal. So, we'll see if that makes the difference or not. The Vikings just need to get one volley off. The Mothership goes down again. That's an expensive loss for Argobot, but Argobot does seem to be trading at a slightly I mean, it's still very close. The Protoss just has a better income right now as Benbot I'm sure has some SCVs off the line to repair. Losing that base maybe means it's oversaturated.
Argobot hasn't been harassed at all, whereas Benbot has had to consistently be pulling SCVs to repair and do that.
Now a Thor is coming on in and the Thors I mean, they don't have plus three attack which may hurt them a little bit.
The bunker's under pressure. So, unfortunately the two Thors maybe not living up to their hype as one of them goes down. The other one's out of position. Benbot has got only three Vikings out right now. So, it is being pressured heavily. Widow Mines going off. Tanks are still going to hold against the stalkers incredibly well.
Just Benbot might not be able to make those seven Vikings at a time that it was building before. It's losing lots of SCVs. 94 have died this game. We get a Yamato Cannon. That's a good connection.
Argobot though has been able to take the base of Benbot, which is not good. We got a tag all in. I don't know what that means. Yamato Cannon hits a Tempest. The Battlecruiser gets out of there. The tanks are still alive. Widow Mines coming off the cool down and Vikings reinforcing show up just in time to basically prevent those tanks from being killed by the Tempests. So, this skirmish continues on as both these bots are very very late game high upgrades.
Benbot is missing three three attack for both ground and air, which may hurt it a little bit. Uh the tanks are still alive for now. A zealot comes on in. There's a little bit of bio. The tanks are shelling away killing off some probes uh denying mining at this base. This is a very bold base for Argobot to try and take, but as we see Benbot has just dwindled in supply, unfortunately, and Argobot's doing everything right. It's got detection to kill the Widow Mines, I believe, and uh while the turret's shooting at some of those Tempests, I think Benbot may just be running out of steam as Argobot it's just uh continued with the pressure. This one Thor here is uh in a in a bit of a skirmish, but yeah, the main base has been breached.
There just isn't enough anti-air from uh Benbot at this point. So, yeah, quite unfortunate, I think. I'd be really interested in seeing a rematch between these two where that bug doesn't happen.
Tempest again are still a very difficult thing for bots to handle in the late game. I think Benbot showed us exactly how its Vikings should capitalize on the Tempest, but maybe just the Thors being stuck caused things to slightly be in favor of Argobot during some of those fights and then maybe because of that Benbot was losing a few more SCVs or a few more units and then maybe it couldn't afford the attack upgrades. So, these things definitely do snowball.
And uh yeah, now Benbot is in that SCV death spiral. So, well done by Argobot.
We'll definitely cast a rematch between these two. It was a great game. Very cool behavior. Very developed bots on both sides. Um yeah, I just very fun game all in all.
Um I'm not usually like a big Tempest enjoyer, but when a game is like this good and there's this much back and forth, um yeah, I'm big fan of it. I guess it's the one-sided Tempest games that I'm not a big fan of, but when when they're this close, yeah, um I'm all about it. Guys, if you've watched up until this point and you haven't already, click that like button. Leave a comment down below saying more bots if you haven't already.
Saying more bots helps us produce more bots, I guess, as it helps us spread the word of bots.
Um yeah, I do apologize about missing a video yesterday. I think it was probably the first video in quite a while that I've missed. I've just been wrapping up exams, kind of chilling a little bit and then uh yeah, but uh big thanks to everyone who does support the channel via the YouTube membership program. It goes a long way and our bonus video this week was Ares versus Avocados.
A very fun game and uh yeah.
Uh just I'll see you guys next time as things are getting cleaned on up.
And uh let me know if you want a rematch between these two.
GG.
