Fast main battle tanks like the MBT-70, XM-1, and ZTZ99A use their exceptional acceleration and top speed (64-83 km/h) as the foundation of their battle strategy, enabling rapid flanking, quick repositioning, and aggressive tactics that allow them to reach firing positions first and engage enemies before slower opponents can respond.

Tactics: Fastest MBTsAdded:
Almost all main battle tanks are fast, but some vehicles in this class are hard to describe as merely “fast.”
In acceleration and top speed, they can rival even wheeled vehicles!
Today we’ll play MBTs where speed is not just another stat but the foundation of the entire battle strategy.
The American MBT-70 and German KPz-70 don’t have record-breaking top speeds, but thanks to powerful engines and a reversible transmission, they can hit 64 km/h in just seconds — both forward and backward.
On dirt, roads, and even soft ground, this American-German MBT usually stays ahead of the team.
And unlike light vehicles, a proper tank can smash through obstacles more easily and barely lose speed doing it.
The “Seventies” have fairly compromised armor, but their aiming speeds and optics are excellent.
You can use their mobility to reach standard firing positions first: for example, the central hills and town on Maginot Line.
Or you can rush into the enemy half of the map, such as along the road between the rocks on “Finland.”
If needed, you can change flanks and move between positions in reverse without wasting time turning around or losing sight of enemies.
Because of that speed, the first opponents MBT-70s and KPz-70s often meet are light tanks and IFVs.
Against them, you have a powerful card: the 20-mm autocannon on the roof.
The German Leopard 2K and PT-16 favor a similar playstyle.
They’re also very fast MBTs with strong forward and reverse speed.
Thanks to high-magnification optics, they’re even better suited for long-range engagements.
Among American tanks, the premium XM-1s stand out.
The General Motors version is available to everyone, and the Chrysler version is available to Xbox players.
At first glance, they resemble the MBT-70, but they differ noticeably in the details, especially the General Motors model.
Its 83 km/h top speed is the best of any MBT in the game.
You even have to keep in mind that at 75 km/h, the stabilizer turns off, so you need to slow down before firing, just like on wheeled vehicles.
At the same time, XM-1s are tracked, so unlike wheeled tanks, they accelerate well on almost any terrain.
These American MBTs are excellent for flanking and aggressive tactics that require not only strong acceleration, but also high top speed.
For example, you can try to contest the enemy’s positions near the rocks by point A on Tunisia.
Just try not to overdo it.
Both XM-1 variants are poorly protected, so the best tactic is to leave the firefight before return fire even begins.
They also lack smoke grenade launchers and ESS, so retreating can be tricky.
Plan your routes in advance.
The French AMX-40 stands out with its acceleration up to 70 km/h.
On the French tank, much like on the Chrysler, you can use a “heavy light tank” approach: reach a scouting position, take a shot using terrain cover, and pull back.
The most important thing with this playstyle is initiative.
The Chinese ZTZ99A and WZ1001 are the highest-ranked vehicles on today’s list.
Their top speed is higher than that of most other top-tier MBTs at 75 km/h.
Their acceleration is excellent, too.
This can be used on the flanks, for example in wide rotations on the one-cap version of Flanders.
Outside the main category, the German experimental VT1-2 also deserves a mention.
It’s not exactly an MBT, but it’s an extremely fast machine.
With an absurd power-to-weight ratio of 50 hp/t, it launches off the line like the dragster of the tank world.
Tactically, though, this German creation is far more limited.
In the VT1-2, the main goal is simple: reach a strong position as quickly as possible.
