Chambers expertly demystifies the trap aesthetic by grounding raw atmosphere in the rigorous logic of music theory. This tutorial proves that a compelling "vibe" is often just the result of well-executed harmonic fundamentals and intentional humanization.

How to make the COLDEST trap melodies
Added:What's good everyone? It's Chambers.
Welcome back again to the studio. Today we brought the keys out.
>> [music] >> I want to get super melodic today and show you as many cool tips and techniques as I can. But before we start, if you haven't heard, [music] I'm doing 40% off absolutely everything this summer with code summer40. [music] That's all my drum kits, sample packs, and the online class. Link is down below for everything. So we got a cool electric piano loaded up. I want to figure out if I want to do like chords >> [music] >> or if we want to do like a faster pace melody built into it.
>> [music] >> Oh, wait.
>> [music] >> All right, so we're in the F minor scale for this.
Count those notes in order. Our one is the F and the five is C.
So in the bass hand, my left hand, I'm playing >> [music] >> the one and the five back and forth. In the melody hand, my right hand over here, I'm just going to be going up the scale. Start with a slide like this.
>> [music] >> And then we go jump up to that four from the F. So 1 2 3 4, we're at A sharp. Head back down the scale.
>> [music] >> Back to >> [music] >> This is where playing by hand comes in really handy because I love the velocity differences. If this was all just the same, it [music] would lose any human characteristics. So I love to have it sound more natural. Add some effects like reverb.
See, that gives it that [music] ambience.
I make two versions. So we'll make this one unique and then we'll simplify it.
>> [music] >> Super simple.
So, now I want maybe a string sound that we could kind of hold out.
That's cool because even with the chord change, we could still hold this.
It's a very tense chord. So, basically we would have an F minor triad.
Take this middle note.
Drop it down one semitone, down to the G.
And then we can actually hold that and sustain it through the whole thing.
Time for a layer with some bass in it.
So, I love a nice piano. Very simple, just following the root notes F up to A sharp.
>> [music] >> When you play melodies by hand, >> [music] >> it just allows you to come up with things that you would have never came up with just clicking in. Now, when you combine that with actual music theory knowledge, you're going to be able to make incredible things. Not just trap beats. If you want to do more R&B, >> [music] >> these skills are extremely valuable to learn and they're all things that I teach. [music] I have over 100 detailed course videos going over things like chords and melodies and scales, but not just music theory, also drums [music] and mixing and arrangement. I don't only teach you things to get your skills up, I also give you seven of my best kits included in the class completely free.
Now, like I said before, this is all [music] 40% off for the time being. So, if you want to take advantage of that discount, use code summer40. [music] Link is down below to the online class.
So, we have our main foundation done.
Now, we can move into the smaller ear candy sounds. to start with a bell. I'm going to use the one on the five again, our F and our C.
>> [music] >> Trying to find the right choir.
We're making more tense. This time I'm doing an inversion with the C and drop it down an octave from here down to here. So we have and then we move up to here.
>> [music] >> Let's go 300 down on everyone.
>> [music] [music] >> I'm going straight to Iconic cuz I need an 808 that's actually going to Might be this one down three from F, so that's going to make it 1 2 3.
>> [music] >> And then stop it right at the clap each time. So even though it looks really small, these little gaps in between the 808s are super important.
>> [music] >> Open crisp from Iconic 2, just layer it right there.
August sizzling, reverse it right here, make this pattern unique, and then we'll have it just >> [music] >> That's tough.
>> [music] >> So these are my Iconic and Iconic 2 drum kits, my go-tos, the same kits I use to produce for artists like Tyga, Shoreline Mafia, Rob 49. Just got this comment yesterday, don't know why your drum kits go harder than any drum kit I ever used, but they're absolutely legendary. Shout out to you. And shout out to everyone else who had things to say about the kit. You can get it for 40% off, that's almost half price for my best drum kits, honestly some of the best drum kits on the market, so go crazy.
>> [music] >> And I'm going to fill it up a little bit more with some hi-hat rolls.
>> [music] >> Down, down, down, down.
Then of course the percussion, straight from Iconic 2.
>> [music] [music] >> Do do do do. Make sure you tune it and we'll just do do do do do do do at the very end.
Woohoo!
>> [music] >> You don't get this type of power from just any drum kit. There's too many producers out there that have too much potential, but they waste it because the drums are at like -6 decibels and they're not hitting. You see how none of these drums are in the mixer? Not a single drum sound in the mixer cuz you don't need to mix it. They come straight out the box professionally mixed, ready to go.
>> [music] >> I'm about to play you guys the full beat, but please take advantage of 40% off absolutely everything. Those hard drums that you just heard, 40% off. My online class with over 100 course videos taught by me, 40% off. The code is summer40, link [music] is down below.
Thank you all so much for watching and I'll see you in the next one. Peace.
>> [music] >> Jee mad >> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hey.
>> Hey.
