Firefox's Shake to Summarize feature, first launched on iOS in September 2024 and recognized in Time's Best Inventions of 2025, allows users to instantly generate summaries of webpages under 5,000 words by shaking their mobile device; the feature is now expanding to Android users in English with more languages coming soon, using device-specific technology (Apple Intelligence on iPhone 15 Pro and later, cloud-based AI on other devices) to ensure data security and efficient processing.

Firefox on Android Just Added 'Shake to Summarize'Added:
Hi, BrenTech, here. Where tech is made simple.
So, Mozilla Firefox has a feature called Shake to Summarize that you can use on your mobile.
Which Mozilla first launched on iOS back in September of last year.
And I actually posted a video last year that Firefox's Shake to Summarize got special mention in Time's Best Inventions of 2025.
I'll leave the video linked if you'd like some more information.
Now, since the launch back in September of last year, Mozilla says that it's expanded it to iOS users in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Japanese.
And just a quick video to let you know that starting today the 19th of May, 2026, Mozilla has just announced that it's bringing it to Android users in English with more languages coming soon.
So, basically, how this will all work, Mozilla says, is on any webpage under 5,000 words, just shake your phone and a clean summary will instantly appear.
And this is just a video clip of that in action.
Now, Mozilla also says that if you don't want to use Shake to Summarize, if you prefer tapping, you can select Summarize page under more in the three-dot menu.
Which is nice when we've got options.
And to keep your data secure, Shake to Summarize, Mozilla says, uses different technology depending on your device.
So, on iPhone 15 Pro or later, your summary is generated right on your device using Apple intelligence.
And on all other devices, Mozilla says your text is sent securely to Mozilla's cloud-based AR.
Which is powered with Mistral Small and AR model carefully selected, they say, for its speed, efficiency, and alignment with an open internet. So, Shake to summarize is now available in English on Android with more languages coming soon. I just wanted to post this quick video to keep you in the loop. So, thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one.
