‘Stick with the words they use’: Prince Harry ‘annoys’ Americans with English slang

[00:00:06]>> Now, Andy Burnham has marked his first hours as the UK's new prime minister with a visit to The Passage, and this is of course a homeless charity, but it holds a particularly close royal connection. Is that right?

[00:00:18]>> That's right. Prince William is the patron of The Passage, and he was first taken there to meet homeless people by his mother, Princess Diana, when he was 11. And he in turn has taken Prince George to The Passage. So, the fact that Andy Burnham went there even before he went to Downing Street on his first day as prime minister is a massive signal, not only that he supports the homeless homelessness charity that Prince William is the patron of. And of course, William has talked about the fact that homelessness should be short, brief, and non-reoccurring through his Homewards program. But it also signals the relationship that you're going to see between crown and parliament, I think. You know, that's to choose to go and do something that's very royal aligned suggests that he wants to really make a difference not just in that sphere, but to have a good relationship with the palace.

[00:01:13]>> Yeah, very significant indeed. Now, some exciting news within the royal family.

[00:01:17]Prince George is about to become a teenager, can you believe it? He's going to be turning 13, marking a major milestone for the family.

[00:01:24]>> This is a big moment for for them. Of course, you know, his whole life he has been in front of people.

[00:01:32]Kate was outside the Lindo Wing within hours of him being born, and of course, they've delivered pictures every year to show us how he's growing up. And look, things have changed around royal reporting. We used to to see a lot more of, say, William and Harry. Of course, George is going to start at Eton in September, where his father was a pupil.

[00:01:51]Apparently, he's very good at history, according to his remembers dates better than William does. But of course, Prince George, the real challenge is that he's going to be coming a teenager and somebody of note and and someone we want to watch in the digital phone era, which of course Harry and William didn't have to face that. So, Eton is in the middle of Windsor. Of course, it's very close to his parents' home. It's very close to Windsor Castle, so he can go and see the king when he wants to. But what it also means is that he's going to be out and about in the village as Eton town, sorry, Windsor is a town in the same way that that William and Harry were, but this time there's going to be people with mobile phones and every shop on every corner. And so, it's going to be more pressure. It's also going to be pressure on Kate and William, of course, because if they have to monitor George's social media. Luckily for them, Eton has a brick phone policy for the first year your kids are only allowed to have a a non-smartphone.

[00:02:47]But the pressure will increase after that. Pretty tricky times for them.

[00:02:50]>> Yeah, no, that will be challenging to navigate, absolutely. Now, Prince Harry is back in in the spotlight and he's kind of gone viral after this TV appearance where he semi-clashed with James Corden over the word soccer. Let's just take a look.

[00:03:05]>> Now, are you a soccer fan? I always think I always thought that that you went to a school that was too posh to play soccer.

[00:03:13]Do you know what I mean? Like >> football.

[00:03:15]>> Yes.

[00:03:15]>> Why are you calling it soccer?

[00:03:16]>> Cuz we're in the United States, baby.

[00:03:18]>> [laughter] >> Um yeah, I always thought that you would have gone to a school like rugby, cricket, polo.

[00:03:23]>> I think it was such a posh school that everything was an option.

[00:03:26]>> Yes. Oh, really? So, there was a there was a football team?

[00:03:29]>> There was a football team.

[00:03:29]>> Were you any good?

[00:03:30]>> You know what? At prep school, I was in the first team and then I went to the bigger school and I ended up in the E team.

[00:03:36]>> Ah.

[00:03:36]>> It being A team >> A team to the E team.

[00:03:39]>> Yeah. So, that didn't feel very >> Yeah.

[00:03:41]>> That's somewhere between five and 10 letters.

[00:03:43]>> Yeah.

[00:03:43]>> So, you found that really funny, DIDN'T YOU?

[00:03:48]>> ANGELA, what's the reaction been to this?

[00:03:50]>> Look, I think it's funny because he's lived in America now since 2019. James Corden has assimilated. He's calling it soccer. So, it shows where Harry's heart lies, doesn't it? I mean, interesting really to me it does. And we're hearing more and more that he wants to make remake that connection with the UK.

[00:04:07]Obviously, he was just there recently.

[00:04:09]There's even been talk that that Megan isn't necessarily against the idea.

[00:04:13]Look, I can't see that happening anytime soon. But when you say things like that, you annoy Americans.

[00:04:19]>> Yeah.

[00:04:19]>> Stick with the words they use. If you're in an American in front of an American audience, use their words. But interesting to know that he had such a plummet from grace. He talks about in terms of his soccer career soccer football, whatever you want to call it, career.

[00:04:32]But he was you know, look, they played a lot of sport at Eton. You know, by all accounts, he had quite a fun time there.

[00:04:38]Not the most academic kid apparently, but but very personable.

[00:04:42]>> You can't imagine Megan saying something like that that I went from A to E.

[00:04:45]That's >> No, no. She would have gone from A to She would have just been A. I went from A to A plus. I mean,
