Gremlin Arrives… While Dorothy May Takes Another Step Forward

[00:00:34]But it's onwards and upwards and in this episode we're going to be going to get someone very special and bring them back to the farm. It's been meaning to happen for a while, but we've been otherwise engaged as you might have noticed.

[00:00:45]It is the one and only Gremlin and we're going to bring him back and then when we get back we've also got the physio coming out to see Dorothy May. There's lots of other stuff going on. Enjoy the video.

[00:01:47]>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> So, we're all back as you can see behind me. Gremlin is in the field settled down just having a little munch getting used to his new surroundings. And it is a sensory overload here. We have all the menagerie as you're aware of. We've got the donkeys, we've got the children, and everything going here on on the farm.

[00:03:04]It is just new surroundings and we've got him close by just to keep an eye on him in those first few days into weeks.

[00:03:10]And I'm here. I'm just reinstating the paddocks where the Viking's dogs round pen was situated. Subsequently, we've relocated it. Take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Doug and Mel for their brilliant care of Gremlin in this interim period where we were tied up with Petra's promise and of course that all important rescue of Dorothy May. You might have seen another horse in the video and that is in the form of Poppy. She's a legend that we brought over from the UK with us and we rehomed with Mel and she's done a fantastic job and she's living the very best life.

[00:03:44]Now, it's time to go and catch up with a very special lady who's having a little bit of physiotherapy.

[00:05:24]>> [music] [music] >> As you saw, she had the once over from the physio and she looks very relaxed.

[00:06:12]She's just having an afternoon siesta.

[00:06:13]So, we're catching up with her progress.

[00:06:16]And as with all these horses, their recovery everything, their treatment plan moving forward is so multi-layered. There's so much that goes into it and we have to attend to the layers as and when is appropriate. It is very hard to judge that because as with Dorothy, she has that anemia, she has the lymphatic disorder she has and and all the other stuff that's been going on and initially it was just all hands on all hands on deck really just trying to get her as comfortable and as stable as we possibly could and then we're moving forward. And having the physio is another massive Well, it's a great step forward.

[00:06:54]People have commented and we've been asked about her teeth, her boobies underneath and they are slightly enlarged and that could be to do with many factors, historical events, mastitis, but at the moment we've had them checked and the vet's keeping her eye on them and we're just waiting for the other skin results to come back for the enlarged legs. Someone did comment and say about her her hind legs. They're actually a lot smaller than they were when she first arrived along with her her front legs. They are improving and obviously all those cuts have got much much better. We're still dealing with that little nasty heel on the front where she's got a a nagging sore, but it is probably her biggest um bugbear or our biggest bugbear at the moment. It's a very awkward place to treat, but it is coming along slowly and as we said Morgan performed that little procedure which has helped things moving in the right direction.

[00:07:48]And as I said before with with a horse like her, I mean she's so enormous. She is larger than life. Such a gentle giant. She really is truly the kindest soul and when the physio was doing the work she needed to do, she was actually lifting her feet up for her. She kind of knew what was coming and they know you're trying to help them but it is that long road. It's that long steady road. But with you guys on board and being able to share it with you, you can see the improvement and it's just such a lovely story but she's got a long way to go. As I said with that muscle mass, she's still got a bit of chunkiness to put on all over but then her muscles start to develop along with her movement and that was one of the things the physiotherapist mentioned.

[00:08:30]She said about where she was a little bit weaker behind and she wasn't able to move forward as freely and that's because on her front end as you know from before you might have seen those pictures of how horrific her feet were when she arrived. They were all out of shape and really causing her problems which has caused that knock-on effect. So in in essence she's just not being able to push through. They call it the momentum, you know, behind is the engine and you've got the gearbox which moves it all forward. But it's all balancing out and really her confirmation, she's a lovely put together horse. She's just going to start to blossom as she starts to muscle but feet first for her and then moving forward it's just yeah, all to look forward to and what a lovely story.

[00:10:07]>> [music] >> We're up at the donkey den and as you can see they're all snuggled in nicely.

[00:11:15]I've just been feeding them courgettes because with the langoustines producing as many eggs as they are, we can't possibly consume all of those. So, we've been trading. We've actually just been giving them to the locals and we've been returned in an abundance of courgettes.

[00:11:30]We just keep getting bags of courgettes in return. So, I think what you can say is they're safely in season.

[00:11:37]We do have helpers, and that is in the form of the donkeys. So, they're all enjoying the courgettes. You've seen the herd. They're all hiding in the shade, and everyone's kind of acclimatized to the weather as it's been. It's taken a little bit of getting used to, but thanks to all your support and your donations, we've got them as cool as possible. Of course, Thomas got his aspirator fan. We've got one coming for Eppelin. Just when they're a little bit older or they've got a little bit of a a complaint like Thomas has with his heart. It just helps keeping them nice and settled. And it is just when the air gets a bit stale, but we've been lucky.

[00:12:09]We've had a few of those storms, as you may have seen in the videos. It's freshened it up a bit, but at the moment it is uh doesn't seem set to break. I'm just going off to help Maxim, the young farmer, with doing some hay baling. He just needs a hand loading up. I think I'm going to try and rope Toby and his friend in, so that'll be something to see. See if I can capture something for you.

[00:12:30]And in the meantime, it's only left to say thank you again to Maxim and to his friend Logan, and of course Luke, our feed man, who all made it possible for that big machine. And you've seen she's gone home. She's gone on to another job.

[00:12:42]And now it's back on little dinky dog to carry on all those jobs around the farm.

[00:12:47]There's always something to do.
