The Arctic Captain Cut 55 MP plasma cutter successfully cut thick channel iron that the Pro 38 Plus cutter from Princess Auto could not handle, demonstrating that industrial-grade plasma cutters are necessary for cutting thick materials, while consumer-grade cutters may require alternative methods like chop saw blades for the same task.

True Test Arc Captain Cut 55 MP Plasma Cutter May 30 2026Añadido:
Okay, Saturday morning in the kingdom and guess what? It's plus 15 Celsius but feels like who cares. And on the yo-yo scale, plus 60 Fahrenheit, but feels like who cares. And also too, we're having plus 30 or just below 30° during the day Celsius. And then at night, we're half the temperatures. Yes, do the math. So, it's kind of nice. You go to bed with the windows open and you wake up at 3:00 in the morning, a frozen popsicle on top of your bed cuz you're chilled to death. Yes. So then you close all the windows. So that works out good.
We haven't had to use the air conditioner yet. Yes, the air conditioner. All right. So today is a good day. It was a good day yesterday on the 45 Chevy. Finally, after four years, we got the motor to idle cuz the fuel pump, the brand new fuel pump was flooding out the carburetor. Yes. And uh no, it was not too bad yesterday working in the heat cuz I was in and out of the shop. So, we had a little cool down in the shop and then go out to the truck.
So, that worked out good. And today will be the true test of the Arctic Captain.
Yes. The cut 55 military police cuz we had to cut some big channels. And we know that we know that the Pro 38 Plus will never cut that thick stuff. Yes.
Cuz we had that we had that plasma cutter for how many years and we learned. All right, let's do a scroll to see what's going on. Look at that. I don't know if we're going to get some rain today. would be nice cuz well it's been too warm and dry. It's drying up in the yard but that's okay. All right, we keep going here. Yard's looking good.
Nice and tidy. And it is Saturday. So we don't want to work too hard today. But tomorrow will be a big day because the boss has plans for Sunday. We seem to work more on a Sunday than we do all the rest of the week. Oh, I don't know why.
All right, there we go. We got some clouds over here happening, but that's okay. And Jack had us up. Jack and his family had us up at 6:30 this morning or 6:00. They were squawking. I don't know if they were having, how would you say, family troubles or marital problems.
There sure was a lot of squawking going on. And then that makes the dogs bark.
Oh, unreal. All right, we better go.
Here comes the boss. Even on a Saturday.
Oh, wow.
Saturday morning in Whoville. It's just after 9:00 a.m. And as you can see, the sun is shining. There is a few clouds in the sky. It's supposed to be extra warm again today. So, I'm not sure what we'll be doing in the kingdom. But, let's head inside, let the dogs out and make breakfast. Then later on, I will get the quad out and the trailer. I have to take the pallets out of the one dog pen and bring them back to the kingdom since the pen is dry now. Okay. Today's project on Sesame Street. Yes, we're going to make a deck or what? Take this stuff. The whole idea of this project is this is antique obsolete stuff that should be in a museum. Oh, wait. I am a museum. The king of obsoletes. Yes. All right. So, we have these military big wide skis that something slid into the went into here and they pulled it merrily along through the wilderness. Yes. But I don't think it worked too well by the number of welds and everything at the front. I think there was a design problem on the skis. And then we have a cat train sleigh hitch. Yes, a cat train sleigh hitch custom made in Winnipeg at the foundry. Look at how thick it is. And they gave it a twist. Can we say uh lots of heating and beating or those guys knew what they were doing back in the day? But this thing is so heavy. Yes, just like the first ex-wife. It's pointless. And we even found the pins for it. Okay, so now we have these beams laid out. We're going to cut it so this big skis fit on. We have a deck over here in the snowbank right there. And there's the other beam right there. All right. So, the true test today is going to be the Arctic Captain. I had to park it this way to get the logo. Yes, the Arctic Captain MP.
Military, please. Oh, this voice. Yeah.
All right. So, we have the cross braces to go across to hold up the floor, which was for bottom of the tune barge. And then we have to make these extensions go out to front for the hitch. Okay. And the thing is, this is obsolete channel iron. I've saved it for close to 30 years from the mine. So, it'll have no resale value at my estate sale like that hitch and those big skis. But as a stone boat or a little thing to pull through the wilderness, it might get $50 on this online auction. Yes, my estate sale online. So, we're going to have to cut with the prop. I mean, the Arctic Captain cut 55. This is going to be the tricky part right here going through here. I know the Propoint 38 Plus from Princess Auto with over almost three years of use, we wouldn't cut that. We'd come up to it and come up here and then we'd have to use the chopsaw blade in the grinder to go through cuz we wouldn't cut through. Then we're going to cut the holes for the hitch pins and cut this in half. So we have 4 ft of the extension for the hitch and cut that.
So, this will be the ultimate test for the Arctic Captain Cut 55 military police cutting these beams. And we're not changing out the tip to make it uh dramatic free. That's still the original tip from the tune barge. So, we'll see how far it goes and if it'll actually cut through this material. And we're cutting it, I think, what is it? 80 PSI.
I think it's marked down somewhere. All right, let's get this production underway. If the wind stays down, I might get the tripod out and set the mephone on for a couple of action shots.
Yes, action shots. They like that.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Okay, as you can see in the video, videos on the tripod, the me phone on the tripod. We did well. So, first thing we did over here was cut that hole. And then we came over here and see the boogerness right in here. That's where the tip quit. Yes. Whoops. Oops. Oops.
There. Quick. Okay. So, it took out the tip, which is unreal how much cutting it took. And we did the tomb barge. So, basically, it just fried itself out like it had enough. And then the machine will not work. Okay. So then we turn around, cut this, and it broke apart on the barrels. I couldn't believe it. Like look at the cuts in here. All right. So we came over here and when I'm cutting up here, I'm doing an uphand. I do the wiggles really tight when I know this is thick. So I don't know what's that 3/4 of an inch and you're blowing through. I coming down and then I was cutting down like this and it broke away. Yeah. I thought it would still be connected up here and I'd have to go get the hammer and beat it into submission. So then the piece went fling over there. All right, so let's do the walk and talk video. Everybody needs their exercise. I am very impressed that the Arctic Captain cut 55 military police. So then I took out my little pale, my board, and then I cut this one.
Okay, so that is impressive. So you seen on the on the video that's all that was left. It cut right through. Like that's just amazing. That pro 38 plus from Princess Auto. We'd struggled to cut this. We'd end up getting the chopsaw blades out and cutting in there and it would have trouble cutting this here.
Okay. And this thing is amazing. We were cutting at uh 54. The funny thing is when I recorded it, it was pulsating.
Yeah. when you looked at it. Okay, I cut it at 54, but the thing is rated for 55, but it's cheating like a push-up bra.
Okay, it doesn't go to because the lowest uh amperage is 20, not zero.
Yeah. So, it's cheating like a push-up bra. So, you start at 20. We went to 54 cuz we didn't want to max it out at 55.
Plus, we're like Sammy Hagar. We can't draw at 55. All right, let's get some grinding happening. Those pieces over there. Okay. Got to get carried over to here. Probably with the mini hoe. We know this is level. And how are we going to get our verticals to stand up? Oh, look at the bumper. We have a bumper.
Somebody leveled the bumper last week.
So, we can clamp the pieces to the bumper to keep it all level. Pretty smart thinking, eh? Yeah. It only took me a few nights staying at the Holiday Inn to figure it out.
11:00 a.m. and I got the quad and the trailer out. I took out a few of the pallets from the dog pen and I raaked both of the pens. That is the dog poop right there. So, I will dump that when I head to the kingdom. Now, I'm going to head up to the store and go grab the last of the stuff off the list and then I'll go over to the kingdom and drop these off and see what my dad's up to.
I'm going to head over there now because it looks like it's going to rain.
11:30 and I just finished shopping. I have to go to both stores. At the one store, I just grabbed the Tang, which was 2130, I think it was. The price has gone up on my dad's juice. Then I treated ourselves to some Gatorade. And then there's a couple hamburger in there. Now, let's head over to the kingdom. Made it to the kingdom and put the groceries away. It was trying to rain on my way over here, so it's a good thing I came now instead of this afternoon. It might be raining.
Looks like my dad is almost ready to put the frame onto the skis. So, I will get the mini out and move a few things around.
Got the mini out and I got the strap off the deck. That way we can take it off.
And then I evened out the skis. And look who's flying right over the kingdom.
I'll say it again. If he crashes, he'll be coming right on top of us in the kingdom.
All he has to do is fly over there.
My dad was able to get the last of the welds done on the frame here. Now, we'll get the green toy out and lift it onto the trailer into its spot. It has to go right here where my dad grinded. And then we will lift the hitch on top as well. And my dad can finish his welds.
12:30 and my dad is officially ready to put the frame on top of the skis. So, I will switch over to the tripod and get on the green toy to work the controls.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Heat.
Heat.
Got the frame piece into place. Now my dad has to do a little bit of cutting just to get everything to fit. And then we can lift the hitch on and put the pins back in. I'll show you guys where he has to cut. He just has to cut out right here. That way the hitch can go on.
Got everything lined up. And now my dad will quickly tack weld it into place.
And then we'll lift the hitch on. It is starting to rain now. Of course, we worked through lunch thinking it was going to rain and now it is raining. We also use the drill rods so that way we know which is level and flat. as you can see here.
So now my dad will quickly just tack weld right here and on the front Got all the pieces cut off. This little art captain does a good job. As you can see, it had no problem getting through to the center here. Now, we'll hook everything up and put the hitch in place.
1:30 and we just got the hitch on. No problem. Now it's officially lunchtime.
We worked through lunch to get this all together because if we would have waited, it'd be raining right now. But since we worked through lunch, it did not rain. A few sprinkles came down, but not very much.
Now, my dad has to weld some pieces on the bottom to keep the front up. And then we can take this off of the deck here and worry about the rest of it later on. Now, I will head back into Whoville and go have a quick lunch. Then at 3:30, I will return and we'll get on the loader and move these plates around.
That way, when we take the deck off of the truck tomorrow, it can go right here.
>> Okay. 2:30 in the afternoon. I had a quick lunch. A sandwich, a cucumber sandwich with mayo and uh dills dill spice sprinkled on it, salt, pepper, and we can't forget the vinegar. All right.
So, what we're doing here on this project is I got to do some quick welds.
We got to put a little support in here and do some more welds on the thing so it doesn't fall off because we're going to move it around. And then we can put a deck on it and finish it up in the winter project or whatever. But the main thing is to get it off the deck of this truck. And also too, we're down to the rods. We're not going to use the last of our good rods for this project. So, what we're doing is taking our bolt cutters right here and cutting the flux thing fell off or the flux. It seems we had a bunch of Hobart rods come in the mail.
We assume, yes, assume the people at the Canada Post or whatever took a dislike into the box and dropped it several times. So, everything on that side of the box had the flux chipped off. Oh well, was life in the end of the world.
We can't run to the store and get another one. We have to make it work.
So, we use the bolt cutters, cut it short, and get some flux and then do the booger welds. All right, let's get at it. Staff will be here at 3:30 to assist with the deck.
Okay, coffee time in the kingdom and I got some booger welds done there. So, that should hold it together. And we got the deck over here. Yes, that's the first thing we cut out of the tune barge in which the Propoint 38 Plus from Princess Auto quit after 2.5 years of use. Yes, that was probably the best thing that ever happened to us because we learned we never heard of Arc Captain or anything like that and we've learned a lot. Plus, now we have an Arctic captain that's gifted it to us through Rotten G. And we're finding out that's the greatest thing since sliced bread or Playboy magazines. All right. So, when the staff arrives after coffee, we're going to lift this up. That's the back end. And everything is being built on the deck of this here cuz the skis aren't straight. Nothing's straight. The hitch is crooked. Everything's crooked.
So, as long as we keep it in the deck of the 45 Chevy, I think we can call it good. Yeah, we can call it good cuz I think we're close enough for the ladies I go with. All right, let's go have a quick coffee and wait for the staff.
Almost 3:30 now. I will head back over to the kingdom and give my dad a hand moving a few things around. I just had good old craft dinner today and it wasn't mushy, which is good. Now, let's head over to the yard and give my dad a hand. Made it to the kingdom and it looks like my dad is ready to put the plate on top of the skis and the frame here. So, I'll get a quick little video for you guys and then walk over and guide it on for him.
We were able to get the frame on no problem. Now my dad will use the mini to straighten everything out. We have to make sure that it is flush on either side.
That way, we don't have to move it again.
400 p.m. We were able to get the plate lined up. Now, my dad is just going to put a couple tack welds in to hold everything together. And then, this will be a winter project. Tomorrow, we will take it off of the deck. And then, we will use the green toy to take the deck off the truck. That way, my dad can put a water tank on this truck. And if there's any fires and stuff, we will have this handy to go out and do stuff with.
I'm officially done in the kingdom. Now I will head back into Whoville and put the quad away and then I can let the puppies out. It did not rain very much today. It did sprinkle a little bit, but not much came down. It got pretty dark there on and off, but it's not bad out here. It's kind of nice without the sun.
It would be a lot hotter if there was no clouds. 5:00 p.m. and this is the temperature we're sitting at right now.
It's 29° C, which is 84° F. We even had the feels like on the bottom. As you can see from my weather board, it's getting pretty windy out here right now. But the sun is still in behind the clouds, which makes it a little cooler out here. If the sun was showing, it would be hot out. Now, let's head inside, let the dogs out, make supper, and end my day.
Okay, 5:00 in the kingdom, and I did some booger welds to hold that sheet of steel on. Yes, but also too, we're getting rid of this material. Okay, those three channel irons been in the kingdom for 30 years. Used them for nothing. And the green ski has been in the yard for over 10 years. that hitch.
It's been here for 30 years and we're using up materials. Yes, using it up.
And then it's a winter project. We can put it in the shop extension and finish it off cuz we'll need another beam right in there or whatever. We'll find another piece of bent channel iron to fit there.
So, work out good. Seems how the deck is coming off tomorrow. Yes, I was under here figuring out the hinges. Yes, we want to make it a tilt deck cuz we have the hydraulics, we have everything. So, let's make it a tilt deck and call it good because it'll be more fun as a tilt deck. Yes. Plus, we're using up the hydraulic pumps, the cylinders, the hoses, and everything that's in inventory in the kingdom. All right, I think we'll call it a day. It didn't get really warm, but it's just humid and we gave it pretty hard trying to impress the boss the last couple of days. So, look at those flags. They're still crisp. You can hear them. All right, let's go walk the dogs and enjoy some beverage and relax. Yes, Kool-Aid with two extra scoops of sugar. Talk to you later.
