[00:01:06]The man that you just saw on the screen is Jalil Jones. He's an alderman in the city of Danville, Illinois, who was the victim of a racial attack by three white men when him and his two cousins were fishing in a neighboring town of Paris, Illinois. Now, these are the two brothers, Jordan Coleman and Jesse Code, and you see their Batwood hillbilly type personas. These two men accompanied by another person, Jaden Reynolds, who was not pictured, ran up on these group of men, three black men, while they were fishing at 10:45 p.m. at White Oak Park in Paris, Illinois. They pulled out shotguns and told them that they didn't need to be there while yelling racial slurs. Then one of them ran to the truck. I think that was Jordan. grabbed a shotgun and fired upon the three black men and then pointed to one of them and said, "I will blow your head off." I'mma let this news article tell you what happened next.

[00:02:29]>> A Danville alderman says he and two other others were victims of a hate crime and now two men are being charged with attempted murder. Good evening. I'm Kelly Finley.

[00:02:39]>> And I'm Jennifer Rosco. We are getting new details in a case we've been following since it happened almost two weeks ago. The information came out in Edgar County Court where brothers Jordan Coleman and Jesse Coleman made their first appearance since getting arrested.

[00:02:53]Jaden Reynolds was also arrested and will be in court next week. WCI3's Tyler Hill was also there this afternoon and is now live in Paris. Tyler, tell us what you learned.

[00:03:07]Jennifer, I'm here where police say it all started at White Oaks Park. They say that this happened April 3rd. And today in court, the Edgar County States Attorney's Office broke down everything that happened that night, starting at around 11:00. They say three men, including Danville Alderman Jalil Jones and his friends Taan King and Dwayne Williams were all fishing on the lake.

[00:03:26]The suspects pulled up in a truck. The state's attorney's office says those suspects had been drinking that night.

[00:03:31]Prosecutors say the three men surrounded and started to harass Jones, King, and Williams, calling them racial slurs. The victims tried to leave, but Jordan Coleman is accused of firing a shotgun into the air with his brother encouraging him. Then he's accused of pointing the gun at King, saying, quote, "I'm going to blow your head off."

[00:03:49]That's when King pulled out his legally owned handgun and fired at Jordan, hitting him three times. Jordan was taken to a hospital. I talked to Jones after court today to see how he was feeling with many friends and family by his side.

[00:04:03]>> It felt real good to have people, you know, in my corner backing me and supporting me and even the people of Paris was supporting me and backing me and just happy that I was here. See, Taan King was out there like Taan Prince shooting from the three or shooting at the three of the individuals who pulled the gun on them. Now, once again, you notice that they did not show the picture of these men. So, I'm going to show you their picture as well. This is the two brothers, Jordan and Jesse. And I guess this would be their arrest photos. Just look at uh the evil in their eyes. And they came to that park with their friend Jaden and they pulled up on these group of black men who were fishing, minding their own business, then started using racial slurs, telling them that they don't supposed to be here. Why, do you ask?

[00:04:58]Well, I looked up the demographics of Paris, Illinois. Paris, Illinois has a population of 95.4% white and only 0.54.054 054, not even 1% black. So in today's definition or in yesterday's definition, it's probably going to be classified as a sundown town. Now let's take that whole entire county, Edgar County. That Edgar County has once again about 95.5% white people and less than.005% black people. And so that is why these white boys came and wanted to exact their racism or they dominate control over a situation. But as the white people say, they f a foed.

[00:05:56]They fooled around and found out. Now mind you, once again, this man and whom you saw talking, that is Jill Jones. You see him right there? He's an alderman in a neighboring town of Danville. Now, Danville, I think, is in Vermilion County. Now, Danville has a much more diverse population. It has about 55% white and 34% black. So, that is probably why he got a seat on the alderman table. But here is a black man doing everything that he is supposed or required or expected to do from the white society being a good negro.

[00:06:38]And here these hillbillies come out of the backwoods of Paris, Illinois, start shooting at them and then point it to the man and said, "I'll blow your head off." Why are not they not focusing more on these individuals in the article rather than the victim as they normally do when white people commit crimes like this? It's never about the white people.

[00:07:15]>> A developing story now. Two of the three people arrested after a late night disturbance involving gunfire appeared in court today. The Edgar County State's Attorney says Jordan and Jesse Coleman are facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder and hate crime charges. Jordan Coleman also faces additional gun-related charges. Our Brianna Morland was inside the courtroom today in Edgar County with how prosecutors say that night quickly escalated. Briana, what started as a quiet night of fishing, quickly turned into chaos. Danville's alderman, Jalil Jones, who's African-American, says he was at White Oaks Park April 3rd with his two cousins. That's when, according to the state's attorney, a truck, pulled up, and that's when Jordan and Jesse Coleman along with Jaden Reynolds approached them. Prosecutors say the group had been drinking and immediately began using racial slurs and harassing the man before things escalated. The state's attorney says shots were fired and at one point a gun was pointed at one of their heads with the words, "We will blow your heads off." Inside the courtroom Tuesday, both Coleman brothers appeared in handcuffs and were denied pre-trial release. For Jones, that decision brought a sense of relief.

[00:08:47]>> Support for Jones filled the courtroom and extended beyond it. It felt real good to have people, you know, in my corner backing me and supporting me and even the people of Paris were supporting me and backing me and just happy that I was here.

[00:09:02]>> One Danville resident says being there was about standing up for the community.

[00:09:07]>> We live in 2026 and we should not be tolerating things of this nature, these kind of hate crimes and so on. Uh so justice being served is very important because then it will draw a fine line to show people that you know the justice system will not tolerated it.

[00:09:24]>> And despite what happened, Jones says he is not letting fear take that space away from him.

[00:09:30]>> That everybody in Paris isn't, you know, to be looked at and treated like that, you know, and that I'm still going to come here to Paris and fish eventually when I get the courage to come back and fish. Court records show as the situation escalated, one of the victims, fearing for his life, fired a legally carried handgun in self-defense, striking Jordan Coleman. The state's attorney says during the entire altercation, the Coleman brothers made it very clear this was racially motivated and did not want the three black men in Edgar County working for you. And you heard the brother saying, "Shout out to the brother because once again, he showed a lot of u tact diplomacy when saying, "Okay, well yeah, everybody is not, you know, like those guys and you know, everybody he he says the political correct thing, but you also heard him say one thing." Well, I'll go back to Parish the Fish when I get the courage to. So that lets me know, okay, he knows that this ain't a joke because once again, his friend has shot one of those boys and they keep making that a footnote of the article.

[00:10:48]Quick, rapid fire. And they said all the while that the older Coleman brother was pointing at the guns and shooting the guns in the air and actually shooting at them, the younger brother was cheering him on. And no word of this Jaden guy.

[00:11:05]We don't know where he is. He probably has a rich uncle or a rich grandfather somewhere who has him whisked away out of the public eye. Once again, you don't see any pictures of these white men who came out in the cover of night like the Kuts clan used to do and caught black men minding their business and attempted to kill him. Now, they've been charged with uh hate crimes, attempted murder, and all sorts of felonies. But say that man didn't have his burner on. Say that he didn't have the great equalizer on.

[00:11:42]What would they have done? cuz they already tried to leave. When the brothers tried to leave, the the the guy went to his truck and said, "No." Uh-uh.

[00:11:49]Like holding him like this was a lynch mob, i.e. Ahmad Arbory, i.e. James Bird, i.e. any other name that you want to fill into it. So, um, just to let us know once again, just stay out of there like like like the brother said, he likes to go fishing.

[00:12:08]There's a lot of places to go fishing where you're more welcome. But evidently in Edgar County, probably named after James Edgar Hoover, who wanted to prevent a black messiah and destroyed all of the uh black civil rights leaders and activist groups throughout history.

[00:12:25]You know, evidently in Ever County, uh we're not welcome, and that's fine. But just know if you do go there, you better be having your firearm on you because these Batwood hillbillies, I'm going to show them again since they didn't show them in the article. These Batwood hillbillies are hellbent on doing violence. As Jubilee 23:23 says, I will raise up the sinners of the Gentiles who respect neither old nor young, but they are more strong and evil to do violence than all of the children of men.
