Solo Exhibition "Light in the City" | Virtual Art Tour

[00:00:00][Music] hey I'm Christina Ken welcome to my solo exhibition light in the city here at Studio Gallery in San [Music] Francisco my show light in the city explores the unique way that light transforms San Francisco's Urban landscape through closely observing the shifting light throughout the day and across Seasons the work captures layers of depth and Nuance in everyday scenes we see beyond Concepts and labels and instead experience the city as a Harmony of form light and color [Music] this painting afternoon at Dolores shows a classic San Francisco scene of people enjoying a sunny day at Dolores Park in these daytime scenes I emphasize the contrast between areas of light and Shadow creating a sense of the strong warm sunlight [Music] in this painting rain on 20th Street I captur the effect of the rain on city streets San Francisco in the rain seems more subdued than it does on a sunny day but the Rainy Streets become like a mirror they reflect the light from the sky and give the scenes a special Luminosity this painting Sunset over Russian Hill shows a panoramic view of the Russian Hill Neighborhood of San Francisco and we have the warm light of golden hour shining on buildings in the city I love seeing how the city transforms at Golden hour Shadows become soft and the gray concrete of the city turns into pinks purples and [Music] golds in this fainting dusk over Russian Hill we see the effect of light at the end of the day on the buildings of the city and one thing that really drew me to this scene was just the amazing colors that we see in the sky [Music] [Music] this Painting Golden hour on Bush Street captures a striking view of golden light in downtown San Francisco [Music] [Music] [Music] as night falls and the Sun's light Fades we become immersed in the soft glow of City Lights the figures in these paintings are often looking away from the viewer their faces obscured they're absorbed in their activity whether it's working talking with friends or going for a walk this gives the paintings a quiet Stillness and creates a contemplative [Music] mood in this painting Closing Time Inner Sunset we see sort of classic restaurant scene but what really drew me to this scene was the dramatic effect of the light the figures in the scene seem casual but the light which shifts from warm to cool and Back Again adds a sense of depth and drama to the scene [Music] [Music] so those are all the paintings in the show thank you so much for following Along on this virtual tour if you are in San Francisco I hope you can make it out to the show which is at Studio gallery and is open until March 24th if you'd like to learn more about the paintings in the show and about my other work you can check out my website [Music]
