Urban flooding in wetland areas like Osu Klottey Korle is primarily caused by illegal refuse dumping and unpermitted construction that obstruct natural water flow channels, preventing water from draining properly into the sea; effective flood control requires coordinated government action to clear drainage pathways, enforce building permits, and prevent waste disposal in waterways.

Ablekuma West MCE Warns of Demolitions Over Floodway Obstructions at Otojor追加:
Osu Klottey Korle is a wetland and every year Osu Klottey Korle gets flooded.
>> That's right.
>> Um the issue this time is that we have more rains, more rains coming and so Osu Klottey Korle became one of the places that got flooded most in Accra.
The issue here is that we have other channels that the water flow into. When you look my my my right side of of Osu Klottey Korle the water should run through that place, settle down, move into the basin and gradually find its way into the sea.
But you could realize that there is illegal activity going on there, the refuse dump. So when we have these huge volumes coming in, they hit the the boiler and they come back into the the the Osu Klottey Korle. So that is the main reason why we have this flooding. We are saying that if we be Odum with National Security and probably Works and Housing and we get our way, we come together, put our resources together and then break through or dredge parts of the of the boiler.
The water running through Osu Klottey Korle, most of them will settle here, gradually move into the basin and then have their final destination into the sea.
>> Okay. So you mentioned something about illegal activities going on there with regard to the rubbish dump there.
Um has there been anything like knowing it's illegal, what are you doing or is it What are you doing?
>> Yeah, unfortunately unfortunately that place is not part of our jurisdiction but you know we still abandoned and that is why it's it has been a concern for for the assembly.
Yesterday Regional Minister came around, we went to other places, we realized that yes somebody has bought but just in front of the person has put a concrete to wall that has also prevented the water from flowing. Challenges we have Of course I've also had some discussion with my colleague Felicity this morning we came here with the MP.
We are also trying to have some stakeholders meeting with forestry EPA and all all all those who matter in making sure that when it rains the rain will definitely have their path and to flow to have a free flow into the drains and finally into the sea.
>> I also observed a lot of new buildings being constructed here.
This is the water we are using for the people. What are you doing here? They have families and their families and then how come >> Okay, so as I indicated when the regional minister came here somewhere last year to have some demolition we use this electric poles as a boundary and if if you look around since the demolition when you look at where the blocks that is that the building start where demolished nobody has built here. These people building here we came meeting them. Of course the assembly has not given anybody any permit. The assembly doesn't we don't sell land. People sell their own land and they are building.
We've not given anybody any permit to build.
So we are also asking and they are appealing to the public to stop throwing refuse into the drains.
For this also prevents the water the free flow of water. They are just bringing whoever and I mean the whole of Ghana Western Region of the West.
The last time we had a clean sanitation day we cleaned our highway on Saturday by Sunday morning we see people just dumping refuse in the middle of the road and they do same in our drains. We are just encouraging all of them to put their stuff to the streets because once we get hold of you the law will take
