Trees intentionally feed 40-60% of their produced sugars into the soil to feed beneficial microbes, which in return provide essential services including carbon dioxide production (which trees absorb through leaf stomata), mineral chelation, and nutrient availability, creating a mutualistic relationship that enhances tree health and vitality.

#trees & Microbes - Nature’s Underground Partnership - ISA Master #arborist ExplainsHinzugefügt:
only about 40 to 60% of those sugars that the tree produces is actually used by the tree. The remaining 40 to 60% is actually pushed down into the soil and that feeds those beneficials. So, why do they do that? Well, we don't really know why they do that. What we do know is that those beneficials start producing everything that the tree needs. They start producing carbon dioxide, which is then expelled out of the soil and on the underside of each leaves are these stomata these little openings. So, every morning when the carbon dioxide rises, the leaves open up and they start taking in that carbon dioxide. And then during the day, it's pulling water up out of the soil. So, the trees are helping the microbes, the microbes are helping the trees. They'll chelate minerals out of the soil, feed the tree and give it what it needs.
