Effective dance choreography employs strategic formation design (odd numbers for symmetry without coverage), diverse movement vocabulary (syncopated claps, torso involvement, directional variations), and clear feature differentiation through level changes and unique gestures, while maintaining consistent performance quality and stamina throughout the routine.

DEBUT CHOREOGRAPHY REVIEW - XONARA 'TABI' Official Music Video + Dance PracticeAdded:
Hey, fresh crew. Yeah, we setting up the out of 10 from we setting up the zero.
>> Hi everybody, it's Jess, your go-to dance commentator, and we're here taking a look at a debut. I believe they're called Zanara. It's XO N A R A and their track Tabby. We have the music video and the dance practice just came out, which is why I think it's the best time to check them out. They are the first girl group that is under Entertainment, which is SB19's label.
So, I'm really excited for this. I think this is going to be fun. I have no idea what to expect, but I think it's going to be great. Let's go.
iPod Nano out the gate.
Hey setting up the wrong money. dancing feeling.
>> Great so far.
FEELING FRESH out of 10 from bey.
Move next to the me.
This is cool.
I like the contrast. It's kind of fun.
The vocalists have this like fun, classy little vibe and then the rappers have a more of a rebellious grungy look. It's cool.
No need to fear. Just hold on.
>> Did we get a little dance break?
Oh, dance break in the water. Let's go.
Hey, >> wave. Wave.
>> Cool.
That's fun. That's fun. I'm lowkey glad I waited till this so we get to see it all in one go.
Fantastic first impression if you ask me.
Clap clap.
>> Hey.
>> It's nice.
Got an odd number which helps with symmetry which is what you're noticing here.
Nice.
Really nice dynamics going from subtle to full.
>> These are interesting phrases of movement. The rigidness of that's cool.
>> Wave wave.
That's fun. The range on that's cool.
Yeah.
Oh, cool.
>> I'm a fan of that. That was cool.
That was quick.
Nice.
That reveal was cool. The pass off and feature Listen to me.
Okay. What's fun about this group is that if you, you know, have preferences of girl groups like Bad Villain in terms of the sound, if the fashion side similar to Kiss of Life and then I think the concept style similar to Hype Princess, it's like a hybrid of all of that. And I think there's really fun qualities of all three of those groups.
And so it makes me excited to see what they're going to do directionwise moving from this debut. But we're here to talk about this from the top. Super fun.
Also, this logo reminds me of kickflip because they do this little plastered thing, too. So, it's like there's so much to love about it. You know what I mean? There's many facets of this group that you could like about him, right?
Okay. From the top. I like the claps in the beginning. They're syncopated. It gives a communal vibe, which is fun.
And then I like the different directions with the kick. Now, instead of using the regular clap, they're using their thighs. The arms transferring the energy from the hand to the leg was cool. Fun gesture with the sink down into it.
Subtlety to hit that whistle. The fold over. They're nice and clear. Knock onto the elbow involving the body pretty well. Meaning that we're using that torso. But we're not just making it extremity based, meaning our arms and our legs exclusively. You end up seeing that a lot when they involved their legs, specifically when they're straight. I loved with all of that, they were all different directions. So, you saw um a great opportunity and they took advantage of it of creating depth in the formation, which I thought was really fun. So, this little this little person, a little symbol for center is fun. It's cool. Great spacing. They Harlem shaked it, which is nice. And they have the switch off there. uh into the hips and then they redirection then your feature doesn't do anything with their arms compared to everybody else. Really easy way to clock them. So through moments of our dance I would have loved to have been her. Why? So I didn't have to go to the floor but I like the knees catering on the five six seven eight there with the arms spread out and everybody creating really fun directions both in rotation as well as in just the facings which is super fun. We open the arms.
They hit it. We fold it in. Rotate it down. The hinge is nice. The flick around is cool. The knock is great with the head. Flick away is fun with the shoulders. I think they are able to go more full because they're in more of a comfortable fit. I do think that these outfits, they can be tricky to dance in if I'm being honest. I think it was fun how you had the little nano as a as a what is it? A just a oh my gosh. Like a not a bobby pin, but a hair accessory.
But yeah, these outfits are cool.
But if they're in like a heel, like there's like a heavy heavy platform. But I mean, I think one of them has a platform style shoe right there. So anyway, yeah, this little running position. They knock with the hinge over rock back is nice. So they have the arms sending it up is cool. They trace it down the side of the torso through the thighs and then snapping. The head is fun. We double it with a drop. Then we swim the arm through. I really love the placement of that. Instead of just sending both legs all the way around, you took one leg, it stopped in the middle, and then you resend the rest the rest, sorry, the other leg to the front.
Super fun, picking it up. That's great.
Head little figure eight. I love how she sits in the hips. Great way. I mean, they're doing good on features because regardless of where they're coming from, you can clearly see when they start because of either levels or directions where they're either moving in a counter direction or they are an obvious different level or their gestures are so different compared to the clarity that everybody else brings in their movements, which is why having a clean dance really helps make your features be read faster and more clearly. That's why cleanliness can really help with that.
So they end up knocking with the fist on the knee. The triceps are nice. We end up ball changing it to help with the different directions and our spacing.
Then we end up doing a traveling switch off in our bevels into a little monastery. We end up swimming the arm up. Fun blade accent there. So you can tell whenever they're going from a fist to a blade to more of a stylized hand. I like the clarity of that. You can tell it's well rehearsed. Here's your Hey, that crew. You notice that she from the jump, if she was in the feature, you would have absolutely been able to clock her for her hand positioning compared to everybody else. Hers was closer to the top of the head. Everybody else was behind. It's also like she hits it, they knock, they take the arm out. The rigidness of that was really fun. They clap it and then they reset it. The toss away is nice. The hit with the arm wave is nice. They It looks like we're doing a lock in. I don't think we are a lock in that you would see in light feet.
and they end up singing it over one side to another with the swim with the hand is fun. You got the hey with the slide.
I like the different directions on that is fun. Your wave is nice. Look at the torso getting involved. We double punch on that blades sending it back. Then we press and we syncopate on those hips.
Really nice how you can have fun moments in the extremities but also moments in that torso. Notice how childish this is in a great way. Why? Because the L we normally see for um loser, right? But then also you have the la. It gives a childlike rhythmic pattern whenever you hear it all together. Reminds you of whenever people sing nursery rhymes together. And I I just like how you have that where they're it's there's play.
It's more playful, right? It's cool. So the herography is really fun there. We toss it away. Send it back. Great way when you have a repeat, you're able to showcase that kind of wrist rotation on it to help interpret it as cool. They rotate it with the swims of the hands.
Come on, hips. So you have that L. So then we swing it in and back up. Level drop to where you could have had you could have had that member all the way over here and you could have clearly seen them with the level drop. That was really fun.
And then they do the same thing. Notice it was with both arms versus just one.
Hips are fun with the hand in and up.
Every time we're seeing them do something, it's not just isolated in one position. You see something else happening in a different part of the body. So, it's poly rhythmic, which is really fun. That kick I thought was surprising because it was very antilimactic. It wasn't impactful like the transition, but I think that's fine.
They run forward, they hit it, arms go up, and I like the hands there. We present it out. We rotate it through. We invert those knees. We ball change. It's fun. Arms go up like the head knob with a toss. And then we end up doing what was it? A pickup with the just a a more of a march step. something you would see in breaking like a top rock kind of accent into a heel twist which I think is fun. Then we drop it low once again.
We have another level reveal. I really like how you can hear in the song that they're hitting the environment.
There's this little T sound that's going on. It's hard to hear when it's slow, but you could catch it when you watch it in real time. Love that section. And we're opposing directions. It provides more depth. The framing out with the flip of the hands is fun. I like the gesture integration of our feature. The framing in the high and the low was nice. And we snake it. Great levels with a fun reveal through the absence of movement cause the feature subtle movement to really be picked up. They swing the arms through. I like the rotation, not rotation, just the circular formation. Notice with this formation, this is the beauty of having odd numbers. No one gets covered unless it's a functional reason. Nine times out of ten when you have even numbered groups that's way way more of a trickier thing to navigate because you like the symmetry. Humans like symmetry by nature. So you want to have that as a part of your composition unless your goal is to intentionally be not symmetrical which some groups are like that. That's fine. In the case here notice we haven't had any issues of somebody getting covered up. Um everybody gets equal love in how they're being featured. I also appreciate whenever you're dealing with a circular formation or a parenthesis formation like this that your feature is able to be seen quite clearly because there's a space that is given in the middle so you can clearly see them. It's really nice.
So that's they do a fantastic job in the spacing. That's something I'm noticing here is that all of it is so clear and the transitions are pretty thought out which I really like. I like the swim with the arms to the chest is fun. I love how they look to the inside. This movie you've already seen, not that one as much, but the first one as they marched forward, they were I think they were moving over to stage right. And then I liked this moment here. We getting grimy with it, aren't we? That's fun.
Yeah. So, they take it high low. They trace it with a nice legato lower body, meaning it's smooth. Love the hand holds there. Ring around the rosies. What that reminds me of a little bit. That was fun. We condensed the formation. Then they all laid the head to the shoulders.
Fun way to have your center feature.
They expand it out. She takes her arm up, traces it down. They all grab and then they interlock, send hitting it around the back. And then we end up knocking on the hips. She has her moment. She snaps it. They look to the side. Shoulder knock. She moves. Great feature. Shows up next. I love the moment of the intimacy of the fingers.
The head subtly comes up. So, they're still contributing to this look environmentally so she can live her life on the melody. It's really nice. It's called poly rhythm through delegation.
Great charisma, great stage presence. I like how we all ripple it out in our own individual pose. Then we send it up.
There's your la. Getting ready for our dance break. Here we go. Turn it into a little gun moment. They're like, "Come here. What you want?" Drop level. Super fun.
Building up the energy here. Something I'm noticing is our stamina doesn't look like it's dropped whatsoever. I think they have great stamina management from the beginning to the end. It doesn't look like we've regressed in density. We haven't regressed in projection or in performance quality. And I think those are fantastic elements to have as a rookie, especially if I'm going to assume they're going to be a live vocal group. I hope so. That would be a really fun charm that the entertainment agency of Onzee would have is every single artist live like projects out the wazoo in the live performances. I think that's really that'll be really fun. You're always guaranteed to have really good performances. The swim on that's fun.
There's your hay. I love the pool and the tension on that or swimming it. And then we end up dropping it down like we're about to do a nigh nigh, but it's so isolated where it's head traveling down the torso. Really fun there. It's rigid. We toss it away. We go. Hey.
We're shaking it with a torso shift. We take it through. We swim it. We end up kicking it great height. Love that. And then everybody's poly rhythm through delegation. We have a different melody going on. You have the la of the hips getting some love there. The kicks are so fun. They shampoo that head. We hip sway. And then we're swimming the arms. We rotate it. We toss it. The scuff on the the scuff into the position was really fun. As we kick it out to that 90. So make sure you stretch your hips out. Make sure you can get that leg to a solid 90 and hold it to be able to handle this coro successfully without tiring yourself out too much. I love that. Hey, they rock it back to the front. They take it up. They swim it. I think they said wave. So having a wave with a hand is fun. I like that you have your feature in the center with both arms up. Well, I think it looks like it's center and then the out end points have two arms up and everybody else has just a single, but then it turns into more of an individualized finish. I thought they did a fantastic job and it makes me really look forward to their works and I also know that those who like SB19, you can see little nuances. I would assume they could be sharing the same choreography team. Maybe not the exact same directors. They may not have Jay on it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Jay was on it because I do believe Jay is an artist now under one Z. So, I do need to take a look at that. I hope he'll have a dance practice if that is the case. But point being, I am looking forward to seeing what direction we go with the group. Are we going to stay in this kind of rebellious classy childlike wonder of charm with a little hint of rebellion or are we going to have other directions explored? I think they have a really nice balance between vocalists to rappers and I think their dance is really fun and has a charming quality to it. If you want to see more groups like SB19 or follow what when I'm reviewing groups like Zara, I really hope I'm saying that right. Um it'll all get released first on my website. It is in the description and you can also marathon all of SP19's work. Whatever you don't see on YouTube was probably blocked and it is over on the Patreon side to enjoy. You guys know me, I know you. I'm Jess and I will catch you on the flip side. Five.
