Police Surprise Woman During Her Bank ScamAdded:
This is my first time and here I am.
Like I'm sorry. You're going to jail.
Somebody booked me. Why would this woman think it was okay to steal a real person's identity, take their credit card, and drain their bank account just because a stranger she met once made it sound easy?
No.
Come on over here and have a seat.
You got to do anything?
No, he has my ID. Okay. What car you driving? I came in an Uber. Came in an Uber, okay.
>> Yeah. Can you turn on your hang on with your phone?
Turn it on. Okay. No, no, turn it off.
Can I have my phone? No.
Okay. Is this the only ID that you have?
Yeah. Okay. That's what I'm saying, what's going on? I'm We're just trying to figure that out. We got a call like like is it right now? Completing investigation. Doesn't mean anything's going to happen. We just got to figure out We got a call. We got to talk to them and see what's going on, okay? Oh, okay. I'm like I'm just a little confused cuz I'm here on a work trip and I'm like Okay. What do you do for work?
I do um cabinet work. Okay. From New Mexico?
Yeah.
Why are you in New Mexico right Okay. Yeah. So this assistant manager, um she just walked out. Um she was a little bit nervous. Mhm. I could kind of tell. So then she comes up, she goes, "Hey, I'm going to do a cash advance." I said I looked at the ideas, I was like, "Okay." Yeah. So for how much? She says five if I can, three if you can you can do it. And I was like, "Okay, well, give me just a few moments while I look at that for you."
So I just messaged your manager group chat. Um they've we've had her trying to do this multiple times. Mhm. Like at other branches, so it was like a lookout. So then um my ABM, Michael, came over.
>> [music] >> And he had the license and the card, so then he could go back and look at it, and then I just made small talk. What is it that you guys are looking to do? Like what has she done? I know you said that she's like I'll be in like a what what has she done?
Two days ago or a day ago she came in doing a cash advance for 3,000 Mhm. with a newer teller that was here. So she processed it for her. But this time she was trying to do one for three or five.
Mhm. Like whatever she could get off the card. Okay.
And she's using multiple IDs. Fake IDs?
Fake IDs. So, basically she's been going around to different Fair Winds banks showing different types of IDs trying to get cash advances. Okay. So, she got she got cash out three times from that location. About 3,000 I think it was though. I wasn't here, but that's what I heard.
She's providing her little card.
>> her ID and then the business card.
>> 2019 everyone? No, so she's going to use the picture. No, but that's the that's not the same picture.
I think so.
Did she Did she get a cash advance? Look at the eyes. Use Use your fingerprint scanner.
I want to find out who she is. What's your name again? My name is Emily Hancock. Okay, and your date of birth?
It's 4/20/81.
Say it again, sorry. It's 4/20/81. Okay.
Police officers, right? We try to identify everyone that we come in contact with and stuff like that. So, I'm running your information right now.
Right now I'm having a little hard time finding your information. Could be because it's out of New Mexico. It's possibly could be the reason why.
Um we have a fingerprint scanner that can do that. It'll be expedite this, get you out of here much faster. Good with doing that?
I guess. Yeah. So, we're just going to grab it real quick, okay? Okay. Cool.
Can I have my phone? No. We're doing we're coming we're we've got an ongoing investigation right now.
So, right now you're out of the plane and you cannot use your phone. Okay? And I'm going to say this to you as well.
If you lie about your identity, you're going to go to jail.
Do you understand me? I'm going to be straight with you.
So, don't play this game back and forth with us. All right? If we give you we're going to I'm going to have you give any information, if at any point you lie about it we're going to find out. Do you understand?
You're going to go to jail.
It's as simple as that. There's no other way around it. Do you understand? So, this ID that you handed me is you. No, it's not. It's not you. No. What is your real name? My name is Tabitha.
Tabitha? Mhm. Okay. And your last name?
Pagan?
When you use somebody's information and it comes back to a real person, you have now committed a felony crime.
I'm just making you very aware of that.
So obviously she's using someone else's ID multiple times most likely. I'm going to obviously do that and then she also provided this credit card as well.
It sounds like it. I mean she's uttering like a And then what you can do is just um Call financial crimes.
>> an email to them. So for today if anything, obviously do an alpha with what they're saying and then 10-15 or for let's see if she admits to this one as well. Yeah, cuz they're they're coming back to real people so there is a specific statute for that.
>> Yes. I just want to let somebody >> You're not let Listen, you're not letting You're detained. 100% you're detained.
We don't know yet, but you're not using your phone, you're not going nowhere.
It's not going to happen. No.
Okay? When you This is what you decided to do. Now we're here.
Okay, but you're not using your your phone. Your phone is now in our possession.
I get it, but I just wanted to let somebody know that I would be You just need to sit tight and you need to relax. And you need to wait for us to get done with what we're doing.
Who are you texting and when? Who are you texting and when?
I told you to to get the phone. My family. Okay.
Once we uh do what we got to do, we'll talk to you about what's going on today.
Right now we got to do a few other things to identify you. Right now, listen to me.
We'll we got to do some steps before we and then we'll just explain everything.
Right now we're just identifying you.
That's all we're doing right now. Okay?
So you just Everything else will be explained in a minute.
I just wanted to let somebody know.
I can't let anybody know that I'm We already told you that. No. How How How old are you? Are you Are you Are you a minor? No, I'm just 38 and I just want to let somebody know cuz I've never been in trouble. Yeah, so I'm just going to check in here, make sure you give us the right identity this time. I told him I have my ID on me. Okay, where's that ID?
In my purse, but they took my purse.
>> Okay, are you cool if I go ahead and grab it? Can I go in my purse to get >> just don't We haven't seen what's inside of it. You know, it makes a threat.
Right. You understand why we let you handle it. Okay.
Have you ever been arrested before?
>> No. Okay. I've never been in trouble.
And now we're going to do your left thumb.
So, what I was telling him, I'm like, "This is my first time." And I only like did it cuz I was desperate right now.
And that's how you were able to withdraw $3,000? Uh yeah, that's the transaction she got yesterday. Did you guys report that incident yet or no?
We didn't know it was fraud yesterday and then it So, the memo came out last night about other branches seeing her cuz they're going other places with different names asking for different amounts. So, they started coming back out and then the young lady caught it today. All right, Miss Vangon.
Police officers are here, so obviously we are investigating, correct? I'm not going to lie to you. I'm going to ask you some questions just to clarify. Just like I got their story, I want your story as well, right? Okay. So, what's going on?
Um I was just doing this because I'm in like financial straits. And that's why I did it the way I did it. It wasn't like something that I wanted to do.
Okay.
>> And here I am. Your financial straits, how What What gave you the idea to even do this?
Somebody made it sound so sweet. Like just hearing it from other people and Yeah. And I was just like, "Maybe I'll just take a risk." Cuz it's something that I've never done. I mean, I don't do anything like this. I don't ever get into trouble. I've never been in trouble. So, it's like you know, you follow the wrong footsteps and here I am. Okay.
Who Who told you to do this?
Just people. Like I've heard people like doing it, seeing people doing it. And Like, Like what I'm saying, like I've seen it like movies, you know? Like those are the type of things that like How many times How many times have you done this? This is my first time.

It was given to me. From who? It was given to me from a person. I don't even know him. Where did you find?
I didn't find him. It was just like from a person, like and then they went to that person and then it was just like Okay.
>> They gave it to me. So I understand it may be that you're not trying to like throw something under the bus, but like I said, at the end of the day, we're talking to you. We're not talking to these other people.
>> That's what I'm saying.
>> And this story is not making any sense.
>> No, no, no. I'm This person didn't just walk to your house and say, "Hey, here's this credit card. Do this at the bank cuz you need some extra cash."
There had to have been something set in motion. No, no. Literally, that's how it was. And I Someone just walked to your house.
>> no, no, no. The person The person I met them one time, okay? One time and one time only. And then he was like, "We can do this." And then it was just like that. And then it was super fast. And then I came today and this is where I'm at. And I promise you I promise you I've never been in trouble. I've never done this before.
This is my first time. And I'm like, that's This is your first time. Okay.
You're saying this is your first time.
They have you using this card yesterday to get another cash advance yesterday.
So this is obviously not your first time.
>> I came. That's why I told the other officer I came yesterday cuz I was coming to get the cash. Mhm.
