Lendt masterfully decodes the song’s emotional architecture, proving that strategic harmonic choices are the silent engine behind pop’s most visceral moments. His pedagogical clarity turns a simple progression into a profound lesson on the sophisticated interplay between tension and resolution.

Playing this song DOES make me happy!Added:
All right, we got some Sheryl Crow today. Welcome. If it makes you happy.
Very excited to get into it, but I'm even more I'm equally excited to thank a few recent signer-uppers to the Patreon supporter of the Cause Club. Thank you, Jordan DeMello, Tracy, David Pickering, Sam Goldman, and Graham McGrew. Thank you so very much for your support.
That was a good one.
If you would like to find out what that's all about, there's a link in the description. Well, listen to this piece of astounding news that I discovered today as I was combing carefully through the separated out guitar tracks to this tune. There are two guitars in this track, and most of the signature stuff you hear is a guitar in open G tuning.
Now, there's also a standard tune guitar playing along as well. We're going to do a mishmash today in standard tuning, but if you would like the open G tutorial, please leave me a nasty comment. For the intro, we're going to start with G, but we're going to do it a little bit different. Grab E3, big E3 with your ring finger. Little E3 with your pinky finger. You're going to mute the A string without even trying, and that's what we want. You're going to start with this special G chord.
Then you add your pointer finger to B1, your middle finger to G2.
>> [music] >> Three strums there, take them off.
>> [music] >> It's the D string second fret.
And back to >> [music] >> normal special G. So, what we got is normal special G.
We'll call it G sus plus or something.
>> [music] >> To the D string second fret.
And back to emphasizing kind of the open D, G, and B strings. [music] That's our intro.
>> [music] [music] >> And then we're into the verse.
Which begin The whole thing's simple enough. You just start with your special G to sus plus.
>> [music] >> No fancy moves there. You just hang on sus plus.
Second time.
>> [music] >> Third time.
One more G and then C.
And I'm putting down my sus four pinky finger there on the D string first fret.
Now, on the track it's the open G guitar and it's up higher.
>> [music] >> Um but I'm sticking to down here for this video. So, your C suspended four is leave everything as is and add again the pinky finger to D3 and that's a verse. G sus plus G sus plus G sus plus C C C C C. You're going to do that twice, but the second time you make it to your C C C C C >> [music] >> we're in the pre-chorus, which is C again D [singing and music] back to C and D.
So, C D C D for the pre-chorus, keeping in mind of course you just ended the verse with C. So, it's C C D C D and that's the pre-chorus.
For the chorus, let's go through the broad strokes first, just the chords and then we'll add the little fancy doohickeys. So, it's going to be A minor if it makes you A minor C >> [music] >> G D.
Second line A minor >> [snorts] [music] >> C double G.
>> [music] >> Now, in the first chorus, it will end halfway through the second line, but you'll know that because it'll go back into >> [music] >> the intro.
So, you'll know to stop the chorus then, but all the other times it goes all the way through both lines or several times through both lines, depending on which chorus you are on. Okay, let's add fancy stuff.
Okay, on the A minor, you're going to give it kind of a strum. Ultimately, we want our pinky finger to make it to B3 and then resolve itself to B1. So, >> [music] >> to C with sus4, G does the sus plus treatment, and D gets all the action.
>> [music] >> On your D chord, if if you can stomach it, grab the G string fourth fret with your pinky. So, the G string is going to go 2 4 2, and then reach for the sus4, that's the E string third fret, and to regular D.
So, and now we have A minor, C, G, >> [music] >> D.
Second line, same.
C, but I'm just going to hang on G.
>> [music] >> You can give the G fancy treatment with the sus thing or just hang on G. I don't remember which one it is because I don't feel like that's an important aspect That's not the detail that's going to make people go, "You're not playing." If it makes you happy, one of those choruses, chorai, if you will, is going to run abruptly into the collide, if you will, abruptly into the bridge, which is E minor.
Sad. It's that spot in the song where the song just falls off the cliff, right? So, you're going to be doing your chorus A minor, C, and then E minor.
Then you get the Meow Mix theme song.
Into A minor. I'm kidding, but it is the same melody.
>> [music] >> So, E minor, G open, D4, D2, D open, A minor.
Same little melody.
E minor.
Melody again.
C this time.
And then you're back into an intro.
Feels like the sun came out.
>> [music] >> And then you do another verse and another chorus, and then you're done with the whole song.
Which means we're done and it's time for me to tell you that those are all the pieces and to go use your eyeballs to figure out which part goes where and when. Unless you think you'd benefit from a play through, in which case I'll hope to see you on my Patreon page. We just eclipsed 600 people, oh my gosh, enjoying my play throughs, my special tabs that I figure out by ear for you to put in your special book. And on today's mega woah, baby bonus lesson, we are going to discuss the mechanics, the ingredients, what what this G sus plus chord is actually called because once we understand what things are called and why, it helps us understand what we're hearing, which helps us understand what we're play It's a big loop, you see, and it's all in the interest of making sense of this confounding thing. So, I'll hope to see you there. Thank you so much for being here. I hope that was fun and helpful, and I'll see you next time with more stuff. Goodbye.
