I Turned My Race Trailer Into A Mobile ApartmentAdded:
Two weeks ago, I told you guys that I had to start over. But instead of building another shop, I built one that I could take anywhere. This started as a normal race trailer, but by tonight, I'll be sleeping in it. We have tons and tons of parts that we're going to be installing into the trailer today to make this thing a comfortable camper for overnight situations. We've got a projector here. We've got an air mattress. We got to have our Red Bull fridge in there. I think the most complicated part of all of these things on the table here is this mini split AC system. You're probably wondering how we're going to power all of these items inside of that trailer because this is quite the load here. And that is the focus of today's video actually is our Blue Yeti Elite 300 2400 W power inverter. This thing apparently does some insane work as far as power goes.
So, we're going to put it to the ultimate test today. We kind of roughly planned out a little bit of stuff. So, we're thinking about putting the air mattress and sleeping section up here.
We're going to put a toolbox right here, I think. And so, I was thinking since I'm already going to be down here with a toolbox working and everything and having the bed set up up there, we might cut out of this wall or this wall a power station, a plugin basically to where you can access the Blue Eddie a lot easier. At least we have a decent idea to start with though. There's just so much stuff and none of it belongs in a race trailer. I have tons and tons of fishing gear and it just gets jammed into the trailer to go places. Just tons of random batteries in there. A little battery. A >> big wrench.
>> That's a yoga mat.
>> A very large spare tire. An inflatable bed for the backseat of the truck.
>> What?
>> This little air pump will air this up.
>> That's kind of cool.
Up to this point in today's video, this has been the best method for sleep.
>> I mean, >> hey, >> what do you rate it?
>> This is rated honestly, I would give this like a 2 out of 10. Now that we got the inside cleaned out, we can start pressure washering it out. Now, look, honestly, we get to work with some really cool companies, but I got to give a huge shout out to Giraffe Tools for sending over the tools needed to get this thing cleaned up, and also to Blueddy for allowing us to create a total power grid inside of a rolling apartment on wheels. What we have coming next is insane, but honestly, I was just blown away at how filthy this thing had actually gotten through years and years of driving on the road.
This has been a massive project already, dude. Look at how clean the trailer is, though. I've had this thing for years, and I have not ever done a super serious deep cleat on this thing like this.
Inside is even better. That is insanity.
My thought is that we can mount it right about here. I'm thinking that this unit, if we build a bracket, can go about right here.
Oh, it's a good height. Ours can still drive perfectly over it. We can park a car right here and have a few tools in here and be cranking on it. Carefully unline these. So, on the inside of the trailer, we're going to have our cable hooked up to about here.
>> Just got to run it to like here and then drill So now our high and low pressure lines.
>> It fits.
>> It fits. Let's see what it looks like in there. But we're getting somewhere. Cool deal. So now with this wall mounted, these are like the perfect length to reach out here to them. We're just going to go ahead and start carrying stuff in there. We're going to start with the Red Bull fridge. So I'm thinking that we're going to stack this somehow and create some kind of mounting system. Yes.
welder sent us over one of the coolest budget TIG welders that I've ever seen and we tested it out with the Kia's downpipe and it actually came out pretty decent for my first time ever using a TIG machine. However, um we're jumping straight to aluminum today. I've never even welded aluminum before. We got the saw and everything out over there. We're just going to get to it and see what I can make happen. Let this be a lesson for life. Sometimes the only way to figure it out is just to get started.
And mind you, this is the first time I've ever done any kind of fabricating like this. Like, I barely even know how to weld. And here we are trying to build custom brackets. And I started to get into it a little bit more than I expected, if I'm honest.
So, now we can kind of start to build what we're doing here. Fire up the Yes Welder and see what this thing can do.
Man, I'm excited to test this out. We're going to give this thing a go. Going to get our area cleaned up. To >> say I was nervous is an understatement here. I was honestly blown away though at how much confidence this machine gave me.
>> Okay, we made a little tack weld >> right off the rip. I was able to actually lay down some pretty good welds and eventually I was honestly able to even surprise myself.
>> Oh, I stacked a freaking dime. Yo, HOLD UP. I STACK THE DIME. My first dime.
It's It's baby. It's a little It's a nickel, baby. But look at that. All in all, this thing is a little fugly, but as you see, this is half of the uh little bracket. The Yes Welder, dude.
The Yes Welder, baby TIG machine. This thing goes crazy. You got to go check out that Yes Welder TIG 200P ACDC, baby.
Yeah.
>> Also got to give a huge shout out to these guys, Select Gases. They're outside of Atlanta here locally and they gave us the gas needed to do all of this.
>> What?
>> The right side of that looks pretty dang good. That's getting good. This is That's looking pretty saucy.
>> Literally allowing me to learn how to weld and also transform my most valuable asset.
>> Pretty decent. And I'm freehanding this.
I don't even have a freaking bench or anything. I'm just on the desktop.
>> Look at that though. Like honestly for never welding before really that is pretty solid. That is really >> like seriously it means the world to me.
So please go show these guys some love if you need any kind of welding gas.
>> Let's see. This should be a line. Look underneath.
>> It's going to work perfect.
After a lot of uh fabrication work last night, I managed to come up with this a horribly welded aluminum bracket, but this is going to serve a big purpose through time. So, inside of here, as you guys see, we've got the Blue Eddie facing the panel that we're going to cut out. My bracket that I made is going to slip just over these frame rails here.
And now, in theory, we're going to put two bolts in there. And this is cut out the exact size of the Red Bull fridge.
And as you guys see, I put this cross brace here. That way, the Bluei can't slide over here and come down the trailer and go tumbling. The Blue Yeti slides right out of the back. Little bit ugly, but that's okay. I am far from a pro. And that just speaks volumes about the Yes Welder system. Maybe we can make our bracket look a little less ugly with some paint.
So, I ordered this little mini split mounting bracket. And I think after we did like a little mockup, I think I can mount it about here. I'm going to off center it a little bit because the actual unit is heavier on this side. So, we're going to work on going to take off these side pieces.
We're going to work on mounting this first.
Got like this nylon bushing we're going to slip in between here with a washer.
We're going to check to make sure it's level because we're doing a freaking good install. We didn't use any Loctite, so I'm going to put some torque on it.
That thing is so on there.
So, these are going to go on here like so.
Okay, push it forward.
This one's going to be a little bit different. This one is going to go straight into the lower section where the toolbox is. But what I'm thinking is once we punch a hole through here, we'll use another one of these loops and these loops. Maybe if we put another one on the other side, we can strap the whole toolbox from the bottom where it can't go anywhere during travel in flight. You want to go see where it's coming through at? Hopefully, it's in a good spot.
All right, we're going to use these as vibrational dampers between the AC mounting bracket and the trailer.
Torque in that unit.
That right there is ingenuity.
They you got to Oh, it's got like a suspension system to it because of the rope right there. The down here first spacer underneath.
>> Wow.
>> I can't believe this. This is actually pretty cool. So, we custom welded a little bracket here. Mounted up the mini split bracket to it. Now, we just got to mount this whole thing on the wall. We got to line this up. And if you want to, can we get that Sharpie? We're going to mark for where we're going to drill and we can pull back the bracket and take our riv nuts. And as you see now, they slip just perfectly into there. So, we'll take our first one. And as you clamp down with this and squeeze tighter, it's actually going to buckle this bushing behind here. And then you'll remove it, unscrew it, and left is a threaded nutert essentially. Easy as can be. We have a threaded segment.
Got sweat draining in my eye. That's when you know it's a good day. Woo! My collar is feeling super blue today. See how we got our bracket? Got our bolt.
Boom. Bolt holes in the wall. Oh my god.
>> Oh my goodness.
That looks like a bracket ready to hold an AC unit. I think we can grab our whole unit here. This is getting big moment right here.
Okay, getting some work. So, next up, we got to take the actual This goes to the inner unit, right? This length here, though, goes into the inside of the trailer to our Blue Eddie. So, we're going to take this long length here and start feeding it through. Oh, yeah. Look at this.
the wiring all from the unit getting tucked up.
Now another hole through the entire trailer.
>> Now Lanny measured this one all by himself. So >> in the right spot.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Action.
>> What a stellar install. Wow. I mean, that's looking great. And look, the battery box, which is all dented up, but at least it's going to close back.
>> Wow.
>> And it looks like no wiring is done.
>> The bracket been drying in the sun.
That's looking pretty good. So, basically, the Blue Addi is going to face up against the wall like that. You see what I'm saying?
>> Mhm.
>> This right here is the perfect size for mounting the Red Wolf fridge to. Now, this, if you notice, slides in like that with the rubber feet on. And then the Red Bull fridge is going to sit on top.
But to make it work, right, we've got to actually cut out this panel for interior access. And then to the bracket that I built, I've got to mount this junction box, the charger, too. Wires going to the battery and all kinds of stuff. So, this is definitely where it's starting to come together, honestly.
We're going to mount the Charger 2 to this thing.
>> The Charger 2 from Bluei is going to allow me to charge up my main power bank in six times the speed than my truck's 12vt cigarette lighter. That thing is doing something. That is a bracket that is supporting some things. So, we got to hook up connect all of the power to the Blue Yeti charger too to connect to the Blue Eddie inside. We've got our whole entire fuse block here ready to kill the power in case of emergency situation.
So, we've got this run of wires connected to the actual trailer battery that is going to keep the alternator charging the Blue Yeti through this Charger 2 system. We're going to connect these into the alternator spot.
Oh, yeah. Okay. Now, this cable here will connect into the charging port of this. Pretty neat little system.
Honestly, I don't hate it at all. This is pretty cool. Ready to charge some ground in there. And look at that.
That right there is a disconnectable fused power junction box on a bracket.
Crazy.
The next step back there, Larry's working on mounting some rubber stoppers and gluing them to the back of the toolbox. We installed some hooks at the bottom. So, we're about to strap it down. This is going to keep the toolbox from rubbing up against the wall and marring it all up. We actually have it hidden where we can strap the toolbox into the trailer without anybody even seeing it.
Oh, that is so that is so firmly mounted.
Like you got to have a steady hand for what we're about to perform.
>> No. See, this is why chat GBT can be dangerous. I had to make a mockup image and here I am now cutting it all up with a saw.
>> Oh my god. But I have faith the final product is going to look exactly like we imagined.
>> That's good. It looks good. It >> does.
>> Yeah.
>> I've been building all this out of my brain. So, we're finally testing it to see what it looks like.
>> All right. So, in theory, we're going to try to stack this. Now, >> I want to remind you that this is only possible because the Elite 300 has the smallest footprint for a 3 kWh power station. Lock the wall.
>> This is for the Blue Daddy to be charged by the battery.
Check. Now, this should be the plug for the AC unit. That'll work, guys.
Slide through there.
It fits. That looks cool.
>> Yeah. Just don't swing it open.
>> And finally, after tons of planning, fabricating, measuring, we were able to assemble the Red Bull fridge onto the bracket I had been working on. And finally got to put the Blue Yeti underneath it. And it all worked. Dude, I mean like this thing is ready to ride.
We got rubber dampers on everything.
This thing is ready to vibrate around.
And look at that. Just absolutely stellar opening.
We're working on getting the hoses hung underneath the trailer out of the way neatly. It's a little tough, but we're making it happen.
Oh no. power cable, drain line, high and low pressure lines ran all the way back.
All of it is connected. The wire is running to the Blue Addi. Everything connected inside of the panel here. And underneath, the last step is just to cut the excess drain line.
So, while we're going down the road, we were worried about the tires throwing up debris and everything into the radiator portion of the AC. So, we have a waterproof cover that goes over the whole thing and uh keeps it safe. We just installed two more nuterts on the inside right here of this beam. That way, we can mount up our Giraffe Tools extendable reel. Huge thanks to Giraffe Tools for sending over this extendable reel and all of our shop equipment. We were pressure washing this entire thing at the beginning of the video using the pressure washer that Giraffe Tools sent over. They have amazing products. Can't recommend them enough and that's why we're putting it in our trailer.
Oh my goodness. God, look at that.
>> Oh wow, that is cool. You know what I'm saying?
>> That's nice.
>> Literally bolted in and framed on.
That's going to connect directly to the Blue Eddie. Huge shout out to Rav Tools.
That is so awesome. We'll be able to take this extension, run it all the way out to literally anything we needed.
>> Dang, >> I can't even keep going.
>> Ran out of room to walk. It's so long.
We're upgrading our lock color. We ain't stopping there. Everything is getting upgraded out here. Removal, custom upgrading, everything. Bam.
>> Let me see. Let me see. Wow, that does look better.
>> So, now if this works right, our key.
Yep. Look at there.
We're going to close it. Now, if you notice, when the door is closed, the drawers can't open. And once we lock the door, the top is locked. This is all locked. And nothing's going anywhere.
So, while we're going down the road, it'll be safe. We've also got a lock.
That way, we can go in here and lock it up.
And that's not going nowhere. Speaking of this area, as you see, we're going to be probably moving around in here a bunch. We don't want this to scratch up our Red Bull fridge now. So, what we got is some weather stripping here, and we're going to run it along to hopefully keep this all protected.
>> Like, it looks like it came like that.
>> Oh, yeah.
You're going to be like, "What?
>> What? This is left over from doing the cyber truck."
>> Oh, yeah.
>> That looks so nice.
>> Last step is custom.
>> Looks so crazy in there. What you been up to out here?
>> Uh, a lot of cable management we got going on.
>> Okay, we got an extension cord in here to power all of our mini accessories like the Red Bull fridge, the giraffe tools extendable reel. Got the charger too connected to the battery out there.
The AC line ran in to plug into the Blue Meti, but this thing is using the truck's alternator and the battery to charge the Blue Eddie while we're going down the road. So, pretty insane stuff going down. Nice work.
>> And of course, got our fused breaker box for the AC. Out of everything that we've done on the trailer so far, this is probably my favorite. I told you guys I love fishing, man. I love fishing. Every time that we're going somewhere, especially like Florida for example, I really want to have fishing poles with me so I can just grab them and start casting away. And so, just like with everything else so far, we figured out a way to make it happen. That >> is so firmly mounted too into the rod.
Just feeds right down into there. Slip that in. Literally just take the rod, feed the tip right through the end.
The next step I think is going to make the biggest transformation. It's probably the biggest visual change side like function. Check this out. We've got two 50 ft rolls of RGB LED strips.
>> This is about to be pretty sick. This is going to be the raid car haul after this.
>> I have no clue if this is even going to work, but wouldn't it be amazing if we could just edit from the trailer, too?
got him little piano.
>> Y'all know that I love working on music.
We got a mic. We got the mini keyboard.
All that in an effort to try to get the computer screen to somehow work inside of here. Also, we are cutting holes in everything in order to get a power strip to fit to power the computer and tons of accessories coming up in just a minute.
If >> everything worked, let's find out if everything worked.
Wow, >> a Mac computer and a trailer.
>> What? The Red Bull fridge.
>> And here we have the entire music. This is sounds like the soundtrack for this.
The music stuff.
We've got the keyboard and the mouse.
Got to have the Bible and the batteries.
Wait.
Got our projector, remote, all that good stuff. GoPro accessories, battery chargers, all the good stuff, and the Red Bull fridge. And guess what? It could run this computer and all of this for >> 11 hours, and we only have 69%.
>> 69.
>> Next up, I called the professionals, the same AC guys that installed our shop's AC.
>> So, I don't obviously know what I'm doing that much, but I think we got it most of the way installed. So, I wanted to see if you could grade my install and then help me charge it up with some refrigerant.
>> Yeah, as long as you got the one, two, three matching uh down here and same as upstairs.
>> Yep.
>> You're good. And then your voltage is correct should be good.
>> So, it looks like my wiring was correct and it was time to test out the AC. One of the last pieces that we have fabricated up was our plug. So, now we're going to Oh, okay. So, if everything is working right, we should be able to turn. I can't believe this is in a trailer.
Let's go.
>> No way. Oh my gosh. I already feel it.
It is already cold. No way. I can't believe that it's all battery powered right now. That's so weird. Really?
>> Yeah. We have it on this um little power inverter.
>> It's running 700 watts right now, but it'll do 2400 W.
Everything we have in here right now is only 700.
>> That was a big project.
>> All right, he is headed out. Dude, look at this. We got the split little mini unit out here actually charged up. It is on right now. It is just that quiet.
Oh my gosh. I can It is so much colder right around here. Oh my gosh. That is so wild, dude. AC in the trailer is just so ridiculous. I can't even believe that. This might be one of the most ambitious projects that I have ever tried to tackle. And the fact that we actually pulled it off is unbelievable.
Look at how nice and clean it looks in here. It's a whole vibe in here.
Oh, it's so cold. Oh my gosh, it is so cold.
>> No, >> this is so cold.
>> What the heck? It actually really broke.
>> Dang.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> That is so cool. What the heck? Oh my goodness.
What the heck? This is pretty cool.
>> Oh my god, >> this thing looks so unbelievable at night. I can't even get over it. I guess it is finally time to test it out. We got our blow up air mattress toolbox.
Got our email going. Editing station ready to happen. Charging up the jump pack. It really kind of feels like a little like a little apartment in here.
It's such a powerful AC unit for such a tiny space. It's kind of funny.
We're waiting on this to air out. We just ordered Uber Eats so that way we could get some food. But I wanted to show you guys the Blue Eddie app real quick. This thing is so cool. It pairs instantly to your Blue Eddie once you get it. The app lets you live monitor everything. So, we can see how much is actually being drawn right now. And surprisingly, with the AC on all of these different things that I mentioned, we're only drawing 450 watts. This thing can do 2400 watts. So, this is like literally nothing for it.
Take off my shoe.
Oh my gosh.
Okay. Compared to like sleeping in the truck, this is so luxurious. Come sit up here. Check it out.
>> Damn, it's cold.
>> I'm telling you.
>> I'm cold.
>> It's freezing cold. Yeah, like uncomfortably cold. I can't believe that it works so well.
>> What? We did this. Let's go. Oh my gosh.
>> Everybody's probably going to be curious how long it can actually run it. It is claiming that it can do this for 98 hours. We could go sit at the track. We could be at the racetrack racing cars or we could sleep on the beach. We can sleep anywhere. Aside from the freaking iMac and everything else like pajamas and AC unit in here, we have another thing to add to the mix. We have a freaking projector. We can mount something like this.
>> Oh, there it goes.
>> Netflix in the trailer is insane. This thing is just absolutely killing it, dude. Yeah, look at that. 4.3 days. We have a USBC connected to this. We have the AC connected to this. We have an extension cord. ran back there to power the Red Bull fridge, the iMac, the projector. We have all the lights ran.
We also have room to still add more power connections, whether it be the 12vt power outlet or an entire washer dryer outlet. Still have two more connections down there. And of course, the surge protector power strip in there. So, this is like actually unreal.
This thing is so sturdy. Like, I'm not even moving the computer at all. It is so sturdy in there. and mounted with rubber dampers up against there. We got rubber dampers on everything down there to make sure it's not going to vibrate off. AC on the wall. Quick detach freaking projector. And what's even wilder is on the outside of here, as cool as it looks inside, the outside just looks like a normal trailer. Like it's such a sleeper. I can't even explain it. It even looks good inside of here. That's whenever you know you did it right. It actually looks still solid like in here. And it's not done. And then we got to put some panels back on and fix up some wires. But kind of proud of myself for this project. Got to give a huge thanks to Britney and to Lanny for helping make this happen. This is pretty sick. We don't have a way just yet to cook in the trailer. So, we still got to order food. Thank you so very much. I appreciate you.
>> Look what I got.
What?
>> This is so random.
This is so funny. What do you rate it?
>> It's good.
This is cool.
>> How do you rate your stay?
>> I'll let you know in the morning.
>> Okay.
>> You want to fly?
>> What the hell? Gosh. All right. There ain't no room for y'all in here. Get out of here. No guests.
>> How do you rate your stay?
a six out of 10.
>> Feel like if we would have had a better bed.
>> Mhm.
>> Like an eight out of 10.
>> Oh my gosh.
>> I honestly cannot even believe that this worked out so well. I'm honestly so shocked. Like you know how whenever you come up with some ideas for stuff and it's like yeah that would be cool but that's so farfetched.
This was one of those for me but it actually worked. That's why it's so cool. I think the Blue Eddie powered everything all night long and we've still got tons and tons of power left.
So I uh I think I'm even more impressed the fact that it worked better than expected. Like I uh I thought we were going to have like an hour of AC. No, we have days of AC and a full power grid inside of this thing for editing, keeping our Red Bulls cool. Huh.
Speaking of Yeah. All in all, what do I rate this trailer project? I rate the Blue Addi 10 out of 10. That thing works phenomenally. our work that we did.
Honestly, got to rate it 10 out of 10.
The Amazon AC, got to rate it 10 out of 10.
This 7 a.m. Red Bull. Oh my gosh.
I got to give this thing a 12 out of 10.
Golly, that thing is delicious. This has been a phenomenal project so far, and I can't wait to actually take it out, go test it. We had to test it out last night, of course, just to make sure everything was going to work. and we're going all the way down to Miami with uh with Red Bull here for the Miami GP F1 race and we've got a lot of crazy plans.
We're taking the GT350 down for some content. We're going to be going and looking at houses for sale while we're there because of course, like I said, this is our apartment on wheels because this house we're about to list it for sale and somebody is going to be lucky enough to own this property. This is such a crazy place, man. I love it.
Oh no. Oh my god.
Oh no. The radiator. We got to turn around. Fun part. We still have to be to Miami tomorrow night at 6:00. You guys have been begging to see more Mustang content.
This is not the smartest thing. This is going to be crazy.
