This breakdown successfully elevates a pop-rock track into a subject of academic rigor by deconstructing its harmonic sophistication. It offers a precise, theoretical perspective on the band's evolution that casual listeners often overlook.

The Warning Wednesdays - Shattered Heart - Analysis / Reaction - Studio / LIVEAdded:
Hey guys, welcome back to Warning Wednesdays. All right, today we have a very special triple threat. I'm going to be continuing on my journey through every individual song. Last week it was 21st century blood. This week we're going to do the next song on that album.
I believe it's called Shattered Heart.
But I'm not just going to do the song and walk away. I'm going to do the studio version and then I'm going to do a live version I found from 2016.
And then for the third option for this whole video here, we're doing another live version from 2000 2020. So we're going to kind of get we'll get the studio, a young live, and then a few years older live. So hopefully this will be a nice interesting spread for everybody.
Anybody who'd like to make a request of their own and support the channel for as little as a cup of coffee, link in the description to buy me a cup of coffee.
Greatly appreciated. Either way, let's get on to it. Shattered Heart off of 21st century blood. Here we go.
>> [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [singing and music] [music] >> First and foremost, the bass part.
What I love about this band is the bass takes such a prominent role and this song is no exception. Doing a descending bassline from one note down the scale down four notes and then kind of walking back up, which they do a lot of descending and ascending in this band.
Really cool stuff. So classic bassline, great tone, great drum beat.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> So there's that chord progression that we originally talked about. The bass covered that part. Now the guitar and the bass are covering it in kind of a new riff.
>> [music and singing] [music] [singing] [music] [music] >> Sounds like some major seven chords in the mix.
Breath of fresh air.
I like how the vocals are like in the background [music] on this part.
Almost as if it's like reflective in a way from a different perspective.
The bass.
So good.
That bass guitar makes it.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Nice. So at the end at the end, the outro, you get that descending line. So it started with the descending line with the bass and then it became full band descending line for the majority of the parts in the song and then we ended on the descending line.
Absolutely cool song. I'm not much for poppy love songs, but that one's got enough musicality and movement to it. I like that. That was a great one. It's catchy, too.
All right, so we're going to slide over to the first live version, this one from 2016.
I will see you all there.
All right, guys, welcome back to part two of this trilogy of The Warning on Warning Wednesdays.
This is the second video, 2016 live version of My Shattered Heart.
Let's get in.
So young.
Outdoor venue. That's cool.
To all those that are going to complain in the comments, I didn't hit close [cheering] captions.
Sorry.
Go watch the originals. Give them give them the credit they deserve.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Yeah.
>> [music] [music] [singing and music] [music] [music] [music] >> All right, I'm actually going to stop that there. The sound quality is getting to me. It's so distorted. You can't really see them. The sound is distorted.
You can tell, however, that they are belting it out. They are playing full-on, no-holds-barred. They sound almost as good as the record. And they obviously love to play live. So, it's the perfect situation. I just can't stand that crinkling noise anymore. So, let's move on to the next one. I will see you guys on the other side.
All right, guys, we're back. The final installment of Shattered Heart Live.
This one was Let me start again. Okay, this one is from 2020. So, 4 years later than the one that we just saw. And hopefully the the quality is way better.
Here we go. Shattered Heart Live 2020.
>> [music] >> Oh, yeah.
>> [singing] [music] [singing] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> You know, I got to say, every time I hear this song, >> [snorts] >> I love it even more than the previous time. That bass part at the beginning, outlining the chord progression that I talked about in the first part of this video, mixed with how she evolves that bass part when the verse kicks in. It's just so well done. It's so like Geddy Lee kind of, in a way, like the way he composes bass parts. It's just so And how old was she there, like in 2020? I don't know. Was she under 18, I'm assuming? Unbelievable.
>> [music] [singing] [music] [music] [music] >> It also needs to be said how amazing Danny's voice translates live, especially at this earlier age. I mean, it sounds almost as good as the studio.
It's so impressive.
>> [music] >> Look at how she switches to a uh more clean tone on the guitar.
>> [music] >> Come on, everybody. Sing it with me.
>> [music and singing] >> Now, there's like those overarching synth tones in the background. Obviously, you have the drums, bass, and guitar. She's still strumming those chords, but I hear that other sound. They must have something of a keyboard pre-recorded section in the back. Maybe there is actually somebody in the back playing. If anybody knows, let me know in the comments below. But, really cool how that makes it that much more interesting.
>> [music] >> What a cool little club.
There's that bass again.
>> [music] [cheering] >> Thank you very much.
>> [cheering] >> All right, I thought they were possibly going to talk there.
Obviously, that recording was way better than the 2016. But, you can get a feel for all of it, and it's all very consistent. And even at that younger age, their stage presence, their power, the voice, everything. They're just It's like they were just born to do this.
It's insane. So, thank you guys for watching.
The Warning Wednesdays will continue indefinitely. Hope you're liking it.
Like, subscribe, leave a comment. And uh we'll see you next time. Thanks for watching.
