Extreme weather patterns, such as alternating droughts and monsoon rains, create significant challenges for homesteaders by washing out driveways, overwhelming gardens with weeds, and disrupting livestock care, requiring constant adaptation and maintenance to sustain daily operations.

Weather Manipulation Makes Gardening Tougher...Added:
came an absolute monsoon the other day and it washed this access road that goes up into the woods. It washed it all the way down all the way down that driveway down there.
So, I'm going have to get the box blade later and regrade it, re smooth it out.
The whole road is just awful. just washed out all over the place.
Anytime this happens, you know we got a flood.
Wash it all the way down to here.
It's a mud hole.
An absolute mud hole.
See all the rain, all the water.
All the water that came through here and just washed this out.
Be free. Live life all through here. We definitely needed it. So, I ain't not going to complain.
We absolutely needed it.
You can definitely tell we're in a major drought because in years past when we get a massive rain like that, the creek would be way up right now. It's not. It's like even still down.
So, or even this pond right here.
There's a fish. There's another fish.
When we get a massive rain like that, man, this thing will be overflowing, leaking out, going down to the creek.
And look at it. It's still down real low.
It's not good. We need We need a lot more rain.
There's fish all in there, though.
I need to do some weed eating, obviously. But that's the least of my worries. I got to pull some more weeds, unfortunately.
It's crazy.
Literally, after this uh rain we had, it rained for like two days. After this rain, just like that, the weeds, the crab grass, it just took over. It's crazy how fast it happened.
But that's part of gardening. That's part of organic gardening. You got to pull weeds. What y'all up to?
I only have seven baby chickens left. I sold five of them.
So, uh, yeah, we got seven left.
That one right there is going to be pretty, man. That one right there, it's going to be really pretty.
I need to get them some water.
Let's let them out. Let's let them live.
You know, we're going to be out here all day. Let's let them live. Sun's coming out now. It's getting hot.
I was out here mowing this field the other day, probably like a week ago, and it was tall. Apparently, the pollen count was super high because like 20 minutes into it, my eyes started watering real bad. By the time I was done, I went and looked in the mirror in the house, my eyes were swollen like crazy, like almost swollen shut. They were watering real bad. Even for the next day or two, they were still swollen. It It was horrible. The worst I've ever experienced. And I've been cutting grass my entire life. Like it was it was awful. I don't know what was going on, but it was weird for sure.
But anyways, look what I just found just walking right here on this little driveway.
Found this piece of flint right here.
Looks like it's been notched out on both sides.
Obviously, it's broke.
Pretty cool. I'm just going to leave it.
And I also found this piece that looks like it's been worked a little bit. It's been napped.
Pretty cool.
Today I need to put my uh trellis system up for my tomatoes and pull a bunch of weeds. So I got my tost and stuff. This is trash. I also need to put this in the compost pile.
Let me go ahead and get them some fresh water.
Don't look like they're going to come out.
We think about the multiple different species of aliens they're talking about now.
So funny. I'm like, everybody always says if they people knew the truth, society would collapse. I'm like, no, it wouldn't. You could literally tell people anything and they wouldn't even bat an eye. Like they'd just be like, "Really?" Huh? Cuz you know, nobody cares. We got bills to pay, you know?
And as long as it don't affect anybody, it don't affect our everyday life, who cares.
My cousin makes this all these organic products. This is organic sunscreen.
This stuff is awesome, dude.
It's awesome.
works really good, believe it or not.
And apparently the UV is really high today.
So, we're going to put some on cuz I got cooked last time I was out here working.
Can't really get my back, which is what I need to get, but that's some good stuff.
Oh, sore.
Real sore.
Yeah, everything that I everything you saw me pull weeds in few weeks ago is still it's good, but it's everything else is just covered.
So, that sucks.
All right, this is what we got.
It looks awful.
It looks awful.
See, everything in here looks good.
Carrots are growing. Beets are growing.
We got some nice beets in there now. Be juicing them up here pretty soon.
There's a nice one right there.
And in here, we got all these melons and stuff that y'all saw me plant.
Watermelons are starting to pop up nicely. I mean, there's a few weeds in there, but not many. Like, there's watermelon there. I'm going have to be careful around all this stuff.
collar greens is looking good right there.
Cabbage is getting is getting there.
So, yeah, we got to pull. We're going to focus on this where I seated those wild flowers over there covered. But the wild flowers have started sprouting. So, I'm just going to have to work around them.
Then, once I get all these weeds pulled, I'm going to peel these tarps back. I need to peel them back anyway. It's where I planted the cucumbers and stuff the other day.
Get this off of there so they can sprout.
So, yeah, once I get all these weeds pulled, I'll come back and there's one sprouting.
And then I'll plant me some more wild flowers in here.
And I may I may just leave these tarps down and just cut little slits and just seed them in rows. That way the weeds won't take over like they like they do.
I hate crab grass, y'all. I hate it.
So yeah, I'm going to go through here and pull all this stuff. Put my trelluses up cuz they need it. They're starting to fall over a little bit.
Yeah, they definitely need it.
I'm ready for some pico.
There's some old cherry tomatoes on here.
All right, there's a tomato.
Some morning glory. Get all that crap out of here.
So, yeah, that's what it looks like.
That's the damage.
Time to get to it. I'll show y'all what it looks like when I get done.
tomato bed weeded.
I'm just going to leave all this these weeds in these rows. I'm going to put down some tarps, fold them up, and put them down these rows. I got to go through these strawberries.
Next year is going to be a lot better year for strawberries. All these runners are starting to grow.
I'll stick them in the ground or I may snip a bunch off and just plant them around and make a bunch more cuz I love them strawberries. They're already done producing for the year. I think I'll get in there later and pull all these weeds.
But yeah, we got plenty of runners we can plop down and next year we'll have a ton more.
All right, man. Y'all, it feels so good out here. The wind Nice breeze coming through. Cool breeze. Still kind of early morning right now. It feels awesome.
But going to go grade the driveway and then I got to pull a bunch of weeds.
And I know I'm not going to finish it all today. It just is what it is. I'll do it for a few hours.
I didn't collect the eggs last week and so I put them all I hid them in here. there so they couldn't get to them.
Now I can't even really get to them. I have to get something to stick in there and pry it up. But I put them all under this so they would stop laying on them because there was like 30 eggs in a few of these. Not in any of those, but one of these up here. I kicked it out last night cuz it smelled horrible. That's it right there.
I put the other eggs the same way over here in this one. There's like 40 eggs in there and she had been sitting on them and just from jumping in and out of there, she uh busted one of them and it got a bunch of them nasty. So that's what y'all just saw me throw them. I didn't feel like cleaning them off.
I mean, I could give them to the dogs, but they were nasty and they stunk cuz it's been it's been soggy. It's been raining. It's rained a lot the last few days.
That's how it goes. We go through severe drought. Y'all probably go through the same thing. Severe drought and then just monsoon.
We I mean obviously needed it. Not going to complain about it, but yeah. But anyways, it washed the driveway out.
About to go get the tractor and the box blade, smooth it back out.
I usually have to do it once or twice a year anyway, but I'm go do that. Y'all are digging a cavern under there.
We're about to get him.
It's so funny how he digs.
He digs so fast.
They're in their tunnel.
You'll probably see them pop up from a different hole.
I got to clean this thing out. There may be some arrow heads in here.
Yeah, I need I definitely need to clean this out.
cuz all this water it came through. I mean, it just poured. It all washes down here and then into the coupe, which is not good. So, I need to dig this out down here so water will go out.
And like I said, it's supposed to rain for the next week straight.
They eat on these plants.
They eat the bottom leaves off of them.
Cool.
So, that water's coming right through here and then going in there. I need to dig a trench up out of this thing.
Man, I feel good today. I slept like a baby last night.
I listen to every once in a while. Look at that.
Look at a tiny little egg right there.
Tiny little little egg.
Anyway, I slept like a baby last night.
I found this certain I think it's it's different frequencies that I listen to just on my phone and I forget what it is.
But uh I I listen to that when I was going to sleep last night. I do that a lot. But this one I I found was new. So I tried it. First of all, I went to sleep like that. And second of all, I had some crazy dreams and I remember every bit of it and I woke up feeling good. So I'm going to listen to that again tonight.
It was a good one.
Did y'all hear that? I don't know what that was. That'll do.
Just kind of dug it down a little bit around the corner there.
Put some rocks in to keep the water from going in. And hopefully it'll go around this edge and go out. Hopefully, it'll definitely be better than it was.
We're going to get out of here away from this loud chicken.
First, I'm going to put some wood shavings down. Cover up that nasty smell. Smells horrible.
I'm going put them some in their nesting box, too. Be quiet, please.
They are obsessed with finding mice and hunting rabbits.
They came back to the house the other day with a little baby rabbit that was still alive.
I made them leave it alone and come in the house. But there ain't no telling what happened to it. It couldn't walk whenever I found it. Sad stuff, man. I tell them stop killing the rabbits, y'all. Cuz they don't even eat them.
They just kill them.
Like we might need them one day, you know, like one day soon probably. And they're just killing the whole population.
That's much better. It's stunk in here, man. That'll cover that up. Neutralize the smell a little bit.
Yeah. Yeah, we'll get the eggs later.
We got to get to weeding is the number one priority, but we got to fix the driveway, too. That thing is rough on my truck. Just coming up and down this road every day is rough on it. For the past 7 years, it's taking a beating.
But let's go uh fix that bumpy, washed out driveway.
Yeah, buddy.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
That's much better.
It's a very good job with a box blade, if I must say so myself.
This thing is pretty dagum smooth.
Pretty nice. Like I said, I never use this driveway, so it's just whatever. But at least it's smooth now.
As long as we don't get any more gully washers, this will be fine. On to the garden. All right, we got the driveway done. That's a success. Like I said, as long as we don't get any gully washers like that one was, we'll be fine. But it is supposed to rain for like the next week straight. So, we'll see what happens. I mean, I usually have to do that at least once a year. So, well, we're going to go down here to the creek and nose around for some artifacts.
I think I just saw a hawk swooping down.
So, just to be sure, not going to shoot nothing, but I am going to let off a shot.
If it saved a chicken or two, that's worth it.
Just to let them know I'm still out here.
All right, come on. Let's go to the creek.
That's my step right there. I use it every time. One of these days it's going to give out.
See if we can find anything down here.
Cuz like I said, it came a flood. The water's still kind of milky. Got a lot of sediment in there.
That this sucker right here though, man.
When this water clears up, this is going to be an awesome swimming hole this summer. Awesome. Y'all will definitely see me jump off of that rock. Maybe from the top up there into this creek.
piece of a old bottle.
Little wire.
took a little hiatus last week just to recharge a little bit and now we're back and just trying to think of different things to do to get the videos out there more.
So, we're going to switch it up a little bit. Some people have left some suggestions. I appreciate that, but may not look completely different to y'all, but I'm going to switch a few little things up. Thumbnails for sure, titles probably, and stuff like that. Still make the same type of content.
And uh yeah, that's what's up.
Apparently, to get your videos out there on YouTube, you either got to be just a genius at something, you got to be a gimmick, which I can't be, or you got to be like just real clickbaity with your titles and thumbnails and stuff like that and real action-packed, you know?
And I'm trying to be the kind of opposite of that. Like I think that's kind of ruining people's brains. Just the constant clips and action and stuff like that and laughing and yelling.
I can't stand that stuff. So hopefully y'all come here and just chill out a little bit. That's more what I'm trying to do. But anyways, the titles might be a little more clickbay. You know, that seems to help. But just know still going to be making the same type of content. I can't stand when people like on YouTube they I watch start watching them and start getting invested and then once they start growing a lot they change it up and just go like bigger production and just doing a bunch of crazy stuff like that just seems stressful to me. So I'm just going to keep doing what I've always done and hopefully people I'll start making the click bay titles.
Hopefully people start clicking on them more, get more subscribers, and then it'll actually feel like I'm doing it for, you know, it's worth it.
But like I said, I'm already doing all this work anyway. I might as well just bring the camera with me. The editing, you know, I actually like editing, but it does get monotonous. But once you get to the final product and you see like that's decent, you know, that's kind of exciting. But yeah, so yeah, the title's probably going to change. The thumbnails going to change. Start utilizing AI, I guess. See how that goes. Everybody, I mean, I see a bunch of people starting to do it. Might as well get on the bandwagon, you know.
But yeah, that's about it.
Oh, y'all got one, didn't you?
Already got one.
All right, the wires are done.
So, I put one going around the outside or that side and that side and then tighten them up to straighten them up.
And as they get bigger, I'll keep adding more wires going up. And anywhere I need to, I'll just like right here, I took some wire, kind of wrapped the plant, and then wrapped it back to the wire.
That way, it'll keep it up off the ground.
And as they get bigger, like I said, I just add more wires and keep connecting to them or zip tying to them where I need to.
Got weeds pulled over there. I got the weeds pulled around my seedlings over here.
Like some cantaloupe.
Cantaloupe, some okra. I need to pull these a little bit more, but could pull up a couple carrots. But I'm going to give them a few more days.
They're nice, but they need a few more days.
That one looks pretty good.
Yeah, we got this good rain. I'm going to let them take advantage of that and really grow.
beets, asparagus, a cooper.
Sounds like he's about to pass out.
You going to live, buddy?
Oh, I can't run.
And there's Mo. I didn't even see her.
This is the only shade in here. It's not even hot out here, y'all.
Not even hot.
They're over here panting like they've done something. The chickens are up there having a party on the front porch.
You've been working hard, hadn't you?
Girl, you ready to go in the house?
Getting ready to go in the house.
All right.
So, we got our tomatoes weeded, got our strawberries and peppers weeded, and we got it weeded good enough around all these seedlings.
And then this is all nice and weeded.
I'm going to take the chickens some of these collar greens cuz they look beautiful. Look at that.
Give them some of these bottom leaves that have been chewed on.
There you Cantaloupe right there is getting shaded out.
We got plenty of cantaloupe and watermelon.
That won't be an issue.
All right, we got them some food.
Time to go in the house. That's all the time we got today.
We'll be back out here tomorrow.
Got them their collared greens and some grains.
Now it's time to get these eggs finally.
That's what I had to hide from them yesterday.
There's two more. There's a bunch more under there. I'm sure you got some.
Scared me. I guess I scared her.
All right, let's get these things so we can go take a shower.
Here's 90.
There's 10 more in this one.
Probably a few more underneath her.
We'll get those later.
90 is good for today. Let's go take a shower. I am beat.
Just doing a little little by little just whatever comes up, you know, like the driveway getting washed out that needed to be regraded. Pulling some weeds, getting that stuff done.
Uh, keeping up with the chickens and all that type of stuff. Just little by little, man. So, yeah, that was another productive week. Hope y'all have a good week. I'll see y'all on the next one.
