A successful watch collection should balance variety with coherence by selecting watches that complement each other in style, size, and function while maintaining a unified aesthetic vision. The key principles include: (1) selecting watches that fit your wrist size and lifestyle for everyday wearability, (2) incorporating different case sizes and dial colors to create visual interest, (3) choosing diverse bracelet styles (such as three-link, five-link, and integrated designs) to add depth, and (4) ensuring each watch serves a distinct purpose in the collection. The winning collection demonstrated this balance by combining a classic dress watch (Royal 36mm two-tone), a versatile dive watch (Black Bay 54), and a sporty titanium diver (Pelagos 39mm), creating a well-rounded collection that offers both visual diversity and practical wearability.

Building A Complete Watch Collection With TudorAdded:
Anything I do [music] is at risk.
Now this would be my my most daring pick.
>> [music] >> The wrong choice. Hi everyone, Teddy Baldassarre here in our boutique. And today we're going to be doing something where we're going to build a collection and we're going to build three watch collection for one brand. That brand is Tudor. I'm not going to be doing this solo though. We're going to make this a competition cuz competition is fun. And here we have Danny Milton. Danny, good to see you, sir.
>> Teddy. It's my It's my first time in the new store. Yeah, you're here for an event. What do you think? I love it.
It's significantly bigger and I'm glad my first time I actually get to have some fun in here. Yeah, so we have an event with Tudor coming up this week.
And it just felt fitting because we have a stocked display.
>> Fully fully stocked. That [music] let's do a little competition.
>> Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm thinking three watch collection each.
But we got to add some theater to this.
We're going to add some theater. So flip a coin and with that coin flip we will determine who gets to either go first.
But there's actually a choice you can make. The winner you could either decide to go first or you can block the selection of that other person that is going and proceeding with that actual selection.
>> Okay, so if I win or you win the coin toss, I can either choose to go first >> Correct.
>> or I can hold in my pocket, reserve the right [music] to block one of your picks or vice versa >> That's right.
>> at any point. If you do decide to block though, you also are creating a scenario where you cannot pick that watch either.
So you're removing it from the field of play.
>> Got it. But we have three watch collection and at the end, we'll of course ask the audience what they think and who would have better collection, but we're actually going to ask one of our colleagues. They're not seeing what we put together in our three watch collections. They're going to see these three watches put next to one another and they will then determine which one has the better collection without affiliating who [music] is what collection. All right, I'm going to be honest. I put zero thought into this in the best way possible and I can't wait to build it. All right. Coin flip. I'll let you do the honors in deciding. What Are you a heads or tails guy? I'm a tails guy. I am too, but here we go.
It's heads, Teddy.
You know, I'm going to be a gentleman and I'm going to let you go first. All right, so that means that anything I do is at risk today. It depends on how you want to frame it. It depends on how you want to frame it. I thought, you know, gentleman move would be you go you can go first. All right, right?
All right, so what are we thinking, Danny? And and also the the other thought process here, too, is like how do you build a three-watch collection with this brand? I mean, there's a lot of sports watches here. sports watches, but I know we both like that, too, so.
All right, so I'm going to start with an obvious pick just to take it off the board. It's a watch that I've wanted, haven't really made the jump to get, but I'm going to go with the Black Bay 54, standard black, 37 mm diver on bracelet.
You probably knew this was going to be one of your picks going into this. It's because, you know, there are some watches that you just know they're in the running for future watches. You said on bracelet, right?
And I think when we both saw the blue one at the show this year, I was thinking to myself, you know, this is cool and all, but it is not in any way taking away from the affection I have for this watch, which is kind of a watch that shouldn't exist, but it does and it works so well at 37 mm. So, I'm I'm taking my sort of dive choice off the board. Not not to give any hints as to how I'm going to build this, but just in the most sort of obvious version of what sort of a smaller Black Bay diver would be. You know, I have a roughly 6 and 1/4 inch wrist. I think we kind of share the same wrist size. This is this is what I want to take off the board first. On paper, I remember when this came out, you would never suspect this watch like as it to your point. Like does it have a place? Yes, but then you got to actually try it on and you're like, all right, I get it. It actually does have a different lane from the 58. I thought initially way too much overlap, but when I'm out in public, I see a lot of Tudors on people's wrists. I think of any brand when someone says they follow the channel, like Tudors were one of the leading brands for when I'm like connecting with people and out in public. And this is near the top of watches that are on people's wrists.
Like I cuz I can just see the bezel.
Like it it makes a lot of it makes sense.
>> I kind of envy it when I see it. It's got a thinner profile. It just kind of works. It's just sort of like a great everyday watch. It's a great pick, but I think we could do even better. Let's see. I probably should pick the watch that I think is going to be my next watch. Like this is legitimately going to probably be the next watch that I purchase.
>> [music] >> So, I probably should go here. I'm going to go Black Bay 58 >> [music] >> burgundy five-link.
>> Five-link. It's a great choice. I I've always liked the burgundy like design.
58 it it it works really well with the the five-link, too, cuz I've been a long a fan [music] of the the 58.
>> discontinued blue 58.
>> Yeah, I know. I know. Very very sad day.
>> Pour one out.
>> Exactly. But, this it brings it all together. Five-link design update with the hands, the case. It's a little more refined, and then it goes back to that 1990s prototype, as well, in in the process.
>> Yeah, you and I were lucky enough to see that at Tudor HQ about a couple years back. And, you know, what I like about this watch, A, I've heard you talking about it as a potential next watch [music] purchase. So, a legitimate pick in the game. But, also it's the first watch that is been the next evolution of the Black Bay 58. Not just in new bracelet, but in, like you said, new hands, new bezel design, slightly slimmer format, a smaller crown, just overall a refinement of one of the seminal watches in the Black Bay collection in a killer colorway. I I mentioned with Cole, too, because 2018 we saw the Black Bay 58 question come out, and now we're seeing this second iteration on the design where there's like these two existing ideas where you have the traditional three-link, and then you have now like this five-link with some of the case updates. Kind of marks the second generation now. There's like two generations of 58. Now, with this going away, that's at least my interpretation of it. So, that's my pick, Black Bay Black Bay. Which we There's going to probably be more Black Bay as as we continue. Without question.
But, after you, sir. Now, you get to go again. We said the word Black Bay a lot, and I'm going to I'm going to move away from Black Bay for a second. For for my for my second pick, you know, You're going for a Tudor Royal?
>> I'm I'm tempted. I'm tempted by Royal, but not with my second pick. Okay.
>> Now, my second pick. My second pick, I want to go 36 mm Ranger. Black.
>> Black. Okay. Tell me Tell me more. Why?
>> So, here's, you know, a bit who I am as a collector.
As much as I am tempted by the shiny new thing, >> [music] >> and in the case of the Ranger, it would be sort of the Dune colorway, I am a sucker for a classic. And [music] as much as I enjoyed the larger Ranger format, this was sort of the other new [music] thing. When they introduced the black dial alongside the Dune in 36 mm, it kind of touched my Explorer-loving heart in Tudor form. You're going small cases, 37 and 36, huh?
>> I love a small case, not because it's small, because it just fits my wrist for everyday use. I just really enjoy a watch [music] that feels like I'm wearing it and it's not wearing me, for the most part. I mean, I'm saying that while I'm wearing a 42 mm watch on my wrist, but, you know, as I'm a watch guy.
>> You're upholding your watch media credentials here. This is a very These are very watch media credential picks.
>> But, they're true. They're actually true. They're They're They're true.
Like, I I I love For a long time, I wore a Rolex Explorer.
I eventually I gave it to my wife when she graduated from her master's program, but I still have an affinity for this sort of Explorer style watch. And this one, unlike what the Black Bay 54 did, where it introduced a satin dial, you still have this like matte finish, [music] these painted numerals. It's like very classic tool watch. And I love how instead of having [music] sort of a faux patina, it has kind of this like Lumanova coloration to it. This like kind of this [music] green that kind of just protrudes from there, that's just always ever present and it kind of is like this striking a balance between retro and modern in a very cool way. And and then talking dollars. I mean we did see the the royal two now start to be at that entry point for the MT calibers now being introduced this past year, but this still sits like right at a nice sweet spot for sure.
>> And you know we did we said there was not this was not a price competition, but I'm still somebody who even if you gave me an unlimited budget, I'm going to pick something that I'm legitimately going to wear and that that's that's you know where I've been so far. Okay.
Oh, this this is a This is tough. This is tough. I I I was going back and forth between my like what I was thinking.
[music] I I was going to go here first, but then I'm like I I should be authentic to self and recognize that that was going to be likely my next watch purchase. I'm going to go Pelagos.
Oh, I like this.
>> I'm going 39 mm Pelagos. I like this.
I'm sorry for all of those individuals out there that like the larger sizes. I I am not selecting this based off of whether or not 39 is better. I'm selecting it based off of what works for me and this is what works for me. The 42 mm Pelagos is fantastic. You can go for the FXDs. I thought about it, but being true to self, I'm going for the Pelagos 39. I always liked the Pelagos before the like back in like 2016-17 era, I actually liked the Pelagos more than the Black Bay. Yeah. Because once you started that transition into the new manufacturer calibers for the Black Bay, I actually liked the way that those original Pelagos wore just because of the titanium construction. It had the on-the-fly adjustment and at a time when Black Bay didn't have that. I also just I I always [music] positioned the Pelagos as the watch that if you had like the Marine Nationale identity of those watches, modern day, what would they create? It would be that. And it was a funny too because they came out with that FXD and then there's all that Marine Nationale affiliation.
>> original dials were some of the coolest evolutions of a classic dive watch style. I know that the 39 doesn't continue that, but it still has these fully loomed like solid blocks on the dial.
But you know the Pelagos is truly the modern version of of everything you're talking about. And just the fact that the Marine Nationale connection actually came to be is just like the perfect you know end point for that idea. And I'm playing around with some different materials. So I have titanium, I have ceramic. As you mentioned, you're not getting maybe all the touches of the 42.
Like you don't have the rehaute. You also have more of like the sunburst pattern on the dial.
But I'm going dive heavy. I'm going dive heavy. I'm going dive heavy. So now we we we can decide on which your [music] last picks are. So I have the >> have my block by the way. I could just be a mean person and then just decide to use it.
>> thing about the block is if I pick something that you wouldn't want anyway, the block is totally valid. You So this is where you can strategically use the block against the person that has the block. I could also fake you out and go for a watch just trying to bait you into the block.
>> I could then I can walk you into that decision and then it might not be what you ultimately want. I like this block.
I like the block idea.
>> I'm legitimately scared of two things.
One is this is a competition. It's a competition where I can feel good about this. Uh-huh. Our our judge sitting in the back with noise canceling headphones on. She's in the back. She cannot hear anything.
There's that component and then there's what you know I remember the comment section of some of these videos, you know, Teddy [music] wiped the floor with you on this one Danny. Whatever. I'm I'm also conscious of that but I'm not going to let it deter me. Cuz we did a video at the previous store what it was was it a $10,000 collection?
>> Yeah, I think it was I think it was $10,000.
>> Something like that. Maybe right in the middle.
>> Okay. And I I still think I won but you know >> [music] >> You have to let the let the people decide. We have the jury in the comments and then we also have the judge in the back. So we'll we'll figure it out. All right. Here's what I'm going to do.
I was going to go for a Royal but I'm not. Okay. I'm going Black Bay Pro black [music] dial. I'm going to complete block.
All right folks.
See where we've ended up here. And I want to I want to be honest for everybody at home. I did not bait Teddy into that. That was my legitimate choice. Okay, okay, okay. So, moving on, moving on. So, you want a Royal now? So, the Royal I was going to go with you and I actually got to see these up close together at our Tudor meeting.
>> [music] >> I'm going to go where you don't think I'm going. I'm going 36 again just to finish my collection.
>> Whoa, okay. And I am going two metals. I'm going [music] with steel and gold with a champagne dial. Oh. For me, this is sort of Tudor's riff on a classic format, >> [music] >> which is whether you want to call it the classic Datejust look or the old sort of Oyster Quartz look. It's an integrated bracelet [music] format that I think for my sort of tool watch heavy selection here, it's a great third watch to have and it's one that in the face of all the other colors that were released. You saw over there, there's the blue, there's [music] the green, there's the larger size, which is a day-date. Here, you're just getting the classic date format. Now, going to be honest, there's one thing I would change on this watch that actually isn't present in this exact model [music] in this size. I prefer stick markers here than than the Roman numerals. This one is not going to win me this competition.
I know that. However, [music] I'm going to be true to self and I think this is just a really interesting three watches to have. If I was to build a collection here, I've got sort [music] of an everyday field style watch. I've got a classically, if not vintage size, dive style watch. Mhm. And I've got something a little bit dressier. And if we were being honest, you know, as much as the watch media would not agree with me, by the way, on on this one.
>> Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're you're now separated from that general stereotype.
>> But but but in sort of like the the everyday experience of wearing watches, like the two-tone is where people are like, "Oh, that's a that's a nice watch."
But that's not why I'm doing it. I happen to really enjoy that format. I do have in my own collection a two-tone Datejust with a similar champagne dial. I'm just really into into that format. Okay. All right.
>> Three all right. Although I would I would I would have gone for that I would have gone for that Black Bay Pro. That would have been my my black dial sport watch triumvirate. Triumvirate.
>> pocket the the block. I need to use the block. Lost my GMT. Royal did inspire me to maybe be a little daring. Yeah. I have it narrowed down to three watches.
>> Shall I explain what those three watches are? Cuz there's no risk. I can explain this to >> I I can guess one of them, I think.
>> Okay, guess.
>> I'm going to guess one of them is the Monarch. One of them is the Monarch.
>> One of them is the Monarch. One of them is the Black Bay 58 GMT. So, that one, but it's a GMT.
>> Okay. [music] Black Bay Pro with the uh opaline dial. Now, this this would be my my most daring pick, I would [music] I would say. But, to complement the collection, it might be the most complete. [music] But, I want people to think at home. I want you to go on this journey with me. Like, these are my these are my thought my thought process.
So, I'm thinking maybe GMT.
>> Uh-huh. I don't have a white dial.
>> actually be a really a nice complement.
>> It's very sport heavy, though. It's very sport heavy, and >> [music] >> I don't know And then also, this is You could say this is dressy, but a red burgundy dial, I don't know if that would actually get me anywhere. So, I am a I have to recognize that. This is my other pick. I was thinking [music] 1926, the moon phase. That is a very underrated watch. It is. I've actually This is my first time seeing it up close. It'd be a little bit out of place in the three watches, but it'd be a very very >> [music] >> interesting pick. No matter what I do now, someone's going to say I made the wrong choice. Totally.
>> Because I I exposed myself here. You've allowed people into the thought process.
Which is never good on the internet.
Never.
>> Never good. Never good. Here we go.
>> I'm going I knew it.
>> I'm going back.
>> It makes the most sense, though.
Also, just like from a looking at three watches next to each other, very pleasing to the eye. White, red, and [music] black.
The only point I could probably be docked is that someone might look at this and think >> [music] >> I am all accomplishing the same thing with these watches. But, I I don't know if I would agree with that.
>> all the same size.
That's true, too. Yeah. Same size.
But, okay. This is my my thought process. Five-link, burgundy, a design and a look that is part of the Black Bay DNA. [music] I have my titanium that also I don't give enough credit for how versatile this watch is. I I know the Pelagos is always seen as the tool watch, but you could wear that [music] in a variety of environments.
>> Absolutely.
And then I have my GMT at a 39-mm size.
I know some people would probably go for 58, [music] but I just felt like I was starting to go a little too like that that felt like it had some overlap with the burgundy if I went 58 GMT. So, I wanted to complement with something with a different dial, different design approach.
>> [music] >> So, those are my three. I like them. You know what's interesting about both of ours? We each, in a way, each took three different bracelets.
>> [music] >> Because all because if you think about it, you've got the rivet style three-link, you've got the Pelagos style three-link, [music] and you got the five-link. This is rivetless on the Ranger. Yep. Riveted on the 54, >> [music] >> and then you've got the uh the very uh the integrated style bracelet on the on the Tudor Royal.
Okay. So, just to unpack, you have Royal 36, yep, 54, Ranger at 36, black dial, I have Pelagos 39, >> burgundy five-link, Black Bay 58, and the Black Bay Pro with an opaline [music] dial. Not not a white dial, an opaline dial, as I I have learned when speaking with Cole. It's calling that a white is not a good move.
>> opaline. It is opaline. [music] Okay. So, with this, Danny, I think we should pull all these to the side. Okay.
>> [music] >> And we're going to introduce our judge, and they are going to make a decision on which one of these [music] is the better collection.
>> I know our judge, and I'm nervous.
Okay. She doesn't know >> [music] >> No, no, she she doesn't know, but I I'm nervous. Unless there was some collusion. Unless you guys had a little exchange in the back. You had mentioned there might be collusion earlier. I don't trust these people. I don't trust these people. I think I think they're going to team up on you. No collusion.
>> Okay. I mean we would but we didn't.
[music] Okay, so we have to introduce Nicole.
Nicole's been a member of the team for what 3 4 years now? 3 and 1/2 years. 3 and 1/2 years. Well, now you have the distinct honor of being able to decide what collection is better. So we're not going to tell you whose is whose. [music] You can't ask any questions. You can just experience the watches and at the end you will >> [music] >> decide who is a better collection. And this is just one opinion but I think it helps in giving some balance. Okay, I'm going to please analyze. Turn this one first. And you're not allowed to guess whose collection belongs to who [music] until after you make your decision. So with this one I like that there's a little variety here even with just like the bracelet type. So we have the five link and then we have three links. So there's a little bit of diversity. This is a solid choice. So [music] 10 out of 10 on that one.
I feel like this one gives a little bit more like depth to what's going on here cuz I feel like these are a little bit more classic. So this one gives a little bit of some diversity here and then >> [music] >> this one's a lighter watch obviously. So I think it it wears a little bit more casually. So I think this one's like pretty well rounded. Okay, the other collection. Okay. [music] I love this watch.
I prefer the Dune dial [music] way but I love this watch. I think this is just something that's so different and it's not something that you see a lot of people on wearing. I feel like this with the gold tone on the dial gives you a little bit more of like a pop and it's not like the classic watch that you see. So it gives classic but then it's got a little bit of difference to it which makes it stand out a little bit more. This is a hard sell for me.
This is just like a little too much flash for me I [music] think but I think if these are a little bit more understated this gives you the special dressier a little bit different >> [music] >> than what else you have in the collection. So now the decision.
You You've now taken a look at the watches. If you had to pick one, make your selection and why. Honestly, it's kind of tough because I feel like this one is a little bit more well-rounded, but this one's got the Ranger in it. But I feel like I would reach for the watches in this collection more frequently than I would reach for all three of these, right? So like this would probably be the Ranger would probably be like a daily wear, but I don't know that I would ever pick this one up. Interesting. Okay. So I feel like So what's your choice? Are you going to go over there?
I don't know.
Yeah, I think I I think I have to go with this one. Even though the Ranger's in this one, I feel like I would go with this one cuz I feel like I would get more wear out of all of the watches rather than getting wear out of one or two watches and then having something sit [music] in a watch box. So now that you've chosen that one, whose collection do you think that was? Your winning collection.
>> this is Teddy's collection.
>> [music] >> I think this is Danny's collection. Why?
Um >> [laughter] >> Not giving anything away. Just want to know why you think that.
>> know that I would ever see Teddy wearing this watch. Two-Yeah, two-tone is more Danny. Look, it just came up literally in the background as she was talking.
>> [music] >> this does not give Teddy at all, but I definitely think Your check will be in the mail, Nicole. Thank you very much. Here's your sake.
Thank you so much. I I think she made a fat capital choice, personally. I know that was the right choice. But it was good It was good working with >> It was great. You know You know at the end of the day, I had her favorite watch of all the watches. And even if my collection lost, I think that's something should be said for that.
>> Sounds like a participation trophy.
>> Yeah, but you know what? I have a lot of those.
Thank you for doing this. It was a lot It was a lot of fun. But that's just one opinion. There might be a different opinion in the comments. So if you guys think that maybe Danny fared better >> [music] >> than what maybe the turn >> going to. [laughter] I think that I think that the the two-tone Royal might be the the nail in the coffin, but I stand by it. But you know what? At the same time we're asking for all these opinions, they don't matter.
>> No. If you like your collection, that's all that matters. And it goes to show you can pick out a pretty good variety.
People talk about a lot of Black Bay, a lot of Black Bay, but there's more than that. With Tudor, if you will. Guys, thank you all so much for watching. Be well. And see you again soon. Thanks, guys.
