The Universe has Sound

[00:00:00]The universe has a sound, we just can't hear it. Sound needs a medium like air, and most of space is a vacuum. But, in massive galaxy clusters, there's enough hot gas for pressure waves to travel.

[00:00:13]In the Perseus Cluster, astronomers detected ripples [music] in the gas caused by activity from a supermassive black hole. These ripples behave like sound waves, just at an incredibly low frequency.

[00:00:26]If translated into something we could hear, the dominant tone would be a B flat, but around 57 [music] octaves below middle C.

[00:00:34]That's so low, it would take millions of years [music] for a single wave cycle.
