[00:00:00]Seoul is still capable of surprising me. 서울은 아직도 저를 놀라게 할 수 있는 곳입니다 Maybe that's hard to believe but it happened here in Dobong-dong 믿기 어렵겠지만, 바로 이곳, 도봉동에서 일어났습니다 where Seoul didn't feel like Seoul at all. 서울인데도 전혀 서울 같지 않은 곳입니다 And I mean that in the best way possible. 물론 그 말은 최고의 의미로 드리는 말입니다 I love this place so much that a part of me 저는 이곳이 너무 좋아서 한편으로는 almost didn't want to show it on YouTube. 유튜브에 소개하고 싶지 않을 정도였습니다 What is up everyone we gonna explore Dobong-dong today 여러분 안녕하세요 오늘은 도봉동을 탐험해보겠습니다 in Dobong-gu and we'll start at Dobongsan. 도봉구에 있는 도봉동이고, 도봉산부터 시작해보겠습니다 So a lot of Dobongs today. 오늘은 '도봉'이 참 많네요 I was surprised how far up north it is 생각보다 북쪽에 있어서 놀랐습니다 because I live in Bomundong and from there 저는 보문동에 사는데 it took me like 45 minutes by car. 차로 거의 45분 정도 걸렸습니다 That is quite far and you suddenly realize how big Seoul is 꽤 먼 거리라, 갑자기 서울이 얼마나 큰지 실감이 됐어요 because I already live you know kind of like northeast 제가 사는 곳도 서울 북동쪽이라 볼 수 있는데 and this is the northernmost neighborhood that we have. 여기가 서울에서 가장 북동쪽에 있는 동네거든요 There's one thing I want to see first. 오늘 먼저 꼭 보고 싶은 게 하나 있습니다 The temple on Dobongsan. 도봉산에 있는 절입니다 So let's check it out. 한번 가볼까요 Dobong-dong is in Dobong-gu 도봉동은 도봉구에 있고 and it's the northernmost neighborhood of Seoul. 서울에서 가장 북쪽에 있는 동네입니다 You can easily get there by taking subway line 1 to Dobongsan station, 지하철 1호선을 타고 도봉산역까지 오시면 쉽게 올 수 있습니다 exit 1 and follow the hiking crowds to the mountain. 1번 출구로 나와 등산객들을 따라가다 보면 This will get you to the most popular mountain entrance from this side. 이 지역에서 가장 유명한 등산로 입구가 나올 거예요 We're not doing a big hike today. 오늘은 본격적인 등산을 하지는 않을 겁니다 I want to go to Cheonchuksa temple 천축사에 가는 게 목적입니다 which is about two kilometers here from the entrance point 입구에서 약 2킬로미터 정도 떨어져 있는데 and I want to see that temple. 그 절을 꼭 보고 싶었어요 I'm not sure if I've seen it before. 예전에 가본 적이 있는지는 확실하진 않은데요 Yeah I read online that it's probably 인터넷에서 찾아보니 the oldest temple here on Dobongsan. 도봉산에서 가장 오래된 절이라고 하더라고요 The temple we're about to see dates to the unified Silla period 곧 보게 될 이 절은 통일신라 시대로 거슬러 올라갑니다 and was originally founded in 673 673년 의상 스님에 의해 by the monk Uisang as a hermitage. 암자로 처음 세워졌다고 하죠 So it is true that it's one of the oldest temple sites 그래서 서울 근처에 있는 사찰 터 가운데 connected to the Seoul area. 가장 오래된 곳 중 하나라고 할 수 있습니다 That's pretty cool. 정말 멋진 이야기입니다 Kind of easy to miss this 자칫하면 그냥 지나치기 쉬운데 but this used to be the site of Dobongseowon, 이곳은 예전에 도봉서원이 있던 자리였습니다 an old Confucian academy. 옛 유교 교육기관이었죠 It's all gone. 지금은 전부 사라졌습니다 I think I see some ruins here and there. 그래도 곳곳에 유적 같은 흔적이 조금 보입니다 They're trying to excavate a few things. 몇 가지를 발굴 중인 것 같네요 If you go to the beginning 입구 쪽으로 가보면 there are a lot of signs telling you where all the temples are 절 위치를 알려주는 표지판이 정말 많이 있습니다 and you realize wow so many temples here. 그리고 여기 절이 정말 많다는 걸 실감하게 됩니다 It's hard to choose. 어디를 가야 할지 고민될 정도죠 I love how they try sometimes to tell you 가끔은 여기서도 포토스팟이 어디인지 what a good photo spot is. 알려주려고 하는 게 재밌네요 As if we're incapable of making our own decisions 마치 우리가 직접 판단해서 풍경 사진을 어디서 찍을지 to decide where you want to take our scenic photo. 결정하지 못하는 사람들처럼요 It's so beautiful here. 여기 정말 아름답네요 We made it. 도착했습니다 Cheonchuksa. 천축사입니다 I know it's supposed to be one of the guardians 수호신 중 하나인 건 알겠는데 but it looks like he's giving us his best dance moves. 마치 자신의 춤 동작을 뽐내는 것처럼 보이네요 All right Cheonchuksa. 좋습니다 천축사 Wow look at the peak of the mountain. 와 산 봉우리 좀 보세요 That is stunning. 정말 장관입니다 There's more to this temple than just its age. 이 절은 단순히 오래됐다는 것 이상의 의미가 있습니다 An Indian monk named Jigong once visited this site 지공이라는 인도 승려가 이곳을 방문한 적이 있는데 and supposedly remarked that the scenery resembled 이곳의 풍경이 인도의 영취산과 Vulture Peak mountain in India. 닮았다고 말했다고 합니다 One of the most sacred mountains in Buddhism. 불교에서 가장 신성한 산 중 하나죠 Back then an old Korean word for India was Cheonchuk 당시에는 인도를 '천축'이라고 불렀고 and according to legend that's where the temple got its name. 전설에 따르면 그래서 절 이름도 천축사가 되었다고 합니다 From here you can either continue hiking up 여기서부터는 계속 정상까지 올라갈 수도 있고 towards the peak or head back down. 다시 내려갈 수도 있습니다 Which is what I will do because there's still a lot more 저는 내려갈 건데요, 왜냐하면 아직 이 동네에 to uncover in this neighborhood. 둘러볼 게 정말 많이 남아 있거든요 All right check this out. 자 이것 좀 보세요 The carvings here are from the 17th century. 여기 새겨진 글씨는 17세기 작품입니다 Done by Johnson Scholar. 조선 시대 유학자가 새긴 것이죠 Marking the entrance to the Seowon Confucian academy 예전에 바로 이 자리에 있던 서원의 입구를 that used to be there. 표시하던 돌이에요 The little green spot with the tree that we saw earlier 아까 산 올라올 때 봤던 when we started ascending the mountain. 나무 있는 작은 초록 공간 기억하시죠 And this is still here. 이건 그대로 남아 있어요 That's awesome. 정말 멋져요 So we're back at the foot of the mountain 이제 다시 산 아래로 내려왔는데 and I realized because it's now almost 1:30. 벌써 거의 1시 30분이 다 되어 갑니다 It took me quite some time to go up and down the temple. 절까지 올라갔다 내려오는데 시간이 꽤 걸렸네요 It's almost 1:30 and I realized I didn't have breakfast nor lunch. 그리고 생각해보니 아침도 점심도 안 먹었습니다 I was feeling weak and I was feeling weak 계속 기운이 없고 힘들더라고요 and I was like I don't feel like vlogging today. 오늘은 브이로그 무드가 왜 이렇게 안 나오지 싶었는데 Apparently it's because I didn't have any food. 알고 보니 그냥 배가 고팠던 거였네요 No can do. 이건 안 되겠습니다 Why did I go up without any food? 왜 아무것도 안 먹고 올라간 걸까요 Anyway this little place here sells Kongguksu. 아무튼 여기 작은 가게에서 콩국수를 팔고 있습니다 It's gonna be my first Kongguksu 올해 늦봄 초여름 시즌의 of the late spring early summer season. 첫 콩국수가 될 것 같네요 I can't wait. 너무 기대됩니다 So when you go down here there's lots of stores we can buy. 아래쪽으로 내려가면 가게들이 정말 많습니다 You know all the hiking clothes and shoes and sticks. 등산복이나 등산화, 등산 스틱 같은 것들도 팔고요 And there's lots of good Korean hiking food. 등산객들을 위한 한국 음식도 정말 많습니다 I'm starving. 배가 너무 고프네요 It's sweet this Kongguksu. 이 콩국수는 달달하네요 I think you add some sugar and yes!! 설탕을 좀 넣은 것 같은데 좋습니다!!

[00:04:01]because that's how I like it. 저는 원래 이렇게 먹는 걸 좋아하거든요 I'm a sugar man. 저는 설탕파입니다 I know it's an unpopular opinion especially in Seoul. 특히 서울에서는 별로 인기 없는 취향인 건 알지만 But I want my Kongguksu with a little bit of sugar. 저는 콩국수에 설탕을 조금 넣어 먹는 게 좋습니다 Of course some salt but my preference goes to sugar. 물론 소금도 조금 넣지만 저는 설탕 쪽이 더 취향입니다 That is crazy. 와 저건 정말 신기하네요 I've never seen a heron so close 왜가리를 이렇게 가까이서 본 건 처음인데 and he wasn't scared of anyone. 사람도 전혀 안 무서워하네요 I love how there are suddenly so many veggie gardens over there 갑자기 저쪽에 텃밭이 엄청 많이 나타나는 것도 재밌어요 and just in the middle. 그리고 그 한가운데에 You see that? 저기 보이시나요?

[00:04:27]Someone built their house. 누가 집을 지어놨네요 So we're going to a place called Musugol. 이제 무수골이라는 곳으로 가보겠습니다 It's an interesting place. 흥미로운 장소입니다 You will see in a minute. 곧 아시게 될 겁니다 Oh man I just gotta keep reminding myself 계속 스스로에게 상기시켜야겠네요 that we're still in Seoul. 여기가 아직도 서울이라는 걸요 And it's like crazy hot. 그리고 엄청 덥습니다 It's 31 degrees. 31도예요 And I kind of forgot how difficult it is 이런 날씨에 촬영하는 게 얼마나 힘든지 to film something in these temperatures. 잠시 잊고 있었네요 Here this for example. 예를 들어 이런 곳 말이죠 Look at a house like this. 이 집 한번 보세요 Doesn't this scream Korean countryside? 딱 한국 시골 느낌 나지 않나요?

[00:04:50]It looks like this house has been here 이 집은 마치 way before everything around here was built. 주변이 개발되기 훨씬 전부터 있었던 것처럼 보입니다 All right my gut feeling told me to come here. 제 감이 계속 여기에 와야 한다고 말했거든요 This is Musugol. 여기가 바로 무수골입니다 It's called Musugol. 무수골 And Musugol is a very old village 무수골은 아주 오래된 마을인데 within the neighborhood Dobong-dong. 도봉동 안에 위치해 있습니다 But this village has been here for 하지만 이 마을은 way longer than Dobong-dong exists. 도봉동이 생기기 훨씬 전부터 존재했던 곳입니다 According to an information sign up there 저 위 안내판에 따르면 the village was divided between the upper middle and lower section. 이 마을은 윗말, 중간말, 아랫말으로 나뉘어 있었다고 합니다 And at the upper section you had two clans. 그리고 윗마을에는 두 개의 성씨 집안이 살고 있었는데 Well, mostly two clans living. 아니, 대부분이 이 두 가문이었는데 And one was the Jeonju Yi clan 하나는 전주 이씨였고 and the other one was the Andong Kim clan. 다른 하나는 안동 김씨였습니다 The Andong Kim clan. 안동 김씨 말이죠 Now from what I understood from the information that I found 제가 찾아본 정보에 따르면 is that the Jeonju Yi clan has mostly disappeared. 전주 이씨는 대부분 이곳을 떠난 상태이고 But there are still 10 or so households 현재는 약 열 가구 정도의 from the Andong Kim clan living in this village. 안동 김씨 가문이 이 마을에 살고 있다고 합니다 So let's just check it out. 한번 둘러보겠습니다 And you can already feel a completely different atmosphere. 벌써 분위기가 완전히 다른데요?

[00:05:41]I mean what a place. 정말 독특한 곳이에요 Look look at this. 이것 좀 보세요 Like yes, there are a few newer villas here. 물론 새로 지은 빌라도 몇 채 있긴 하지만 But I'm talking about these houses. 제가 말하는 건 이런 집들입니다 They've been here for some time already. 꽤 오랜 시간 이 자리를 지켜온 집들이죠 Do we have to walk a lot? 많이 걸어요?

[00:05:50]No, you can just keep going straight up. 아뇨 그냥 쭉 올라가면 돼요 Ah okay, thank you. 아아 네, 네 감사합니다 Okay so I asked to the man sitting in the garden 정원에 앉아 계시던 분께 안동 김씨 가문이신지 if he is from the Andong Kim family. 제가 여쭤봤거든요 He isn't. 아니라고 하시네요 But he said they're still living here. 그래도 그분들이 아직 이곳에 살고 계신대요 Just not here. 다만 이 집은 아니고요 We have to walk a little bit up into that direction. 저 방향으로 조금 더 올라가야 한다고 합니다 Look at the views here guys. 여기 풍경 좀 보세요 여러분 Look at the views. 정말 멋집니다 Earlier at the entrance of Dobongsan 아까 도봉산 입구 쪽은 there were so a lot of people. 사람이 정말 많았는데 It was so busy. 엄청 붐볐습니다 And that on a Thursday morning. 그것도 목요일 오전인데 말이죠 Now we're at another entrance into Bukhansan National Park. 지금은 북한산 국립공원의 다른 입구 쪽에 와 있는데 And look at this. 이것 좀 보세요 There's just no one here. 여긴 사람이 거의 없습니다 There's almost no one here. 정말 거의 아무도 없어요 What a difference. 완전히 다른 광경이에요 Maybe you're wondering why these clans established a village here. 아마 왜 이런 가문들이 이곳에 마을을 이루고 살게 되었는지 궁금하실 텐데요 Well the reason the Jeonju Yi clan settled here 전주 이씨가 이곳에 정착한 이유는 is because Prince Yeonghae, 영해군, one of King Sejong's sons, was buried here. 세종대왕의 아들 중 한 분의 묘가 이곳에 있기 때문입니다 His burial ground now includes many members of the Yi family 지금은 이씨 가문의 여러 후손 묘역도 함께 자리하고 있고 and is designated as a sole tangible cultural heritage site. 서울시 유형문화유산으로 지정되어 있습니다 I even met people who personally knew 심지어 저는 안동 김씨 집안 사람들을 members of the Andong Kim clan. 아는 분들도 만났는데요 But unfortunately nobody picked up after a phone call. 아쉽게도 전화를 받는 분은 없었습니다 But I’m… how do I say this, looking for the Andong Kim family 근데 저는.. 그 뭐지, 안동 김씨 가족 찾고 있어요 The Andong Kim family? 안동 김씨?

[00:06:56]Yes, I heard many of them still live here. 네, 여기 많이 남아 있는 줄 아는데 Clan village! Clan village! 집성촌! 집성촌!

[00:07:00]So I guess we just had to Prince Yeonghae's tomb instead. 그래서 결국 영해군 묘역으로 가보기로 했습니다 And honestly, the further I walk into the village, 그리고 솔직히 말해서 마을 안쪽으로 더 들어갈수록 the more rural it becomes. 점점 더 시골 같은 분위기가 강해집니다 I'm not sure if I've ever seen or felt 서울에서 이런 분위기를 anything quite like this in Seoul before. 본 적이나 느껴본 적이 있었나 싶을 정도입니다 See this is where we're going 저희가 가는 곳이 여기고 and now we’re right here. 지금은 여기쯤 와 있습니다 And look at this. 그리고 이것 좀 보세요 Look at all the rice paddies. 논이 정말 많습니다 Tomb Complex of the Yeonghaegun Branch of the Jeonju Yi Clan 전주 이씨 세종왕자 영해군파 묘역 Yeah what a place guys. 와 여기 너무 좋네요 Look at this. 이것 좀 보세요 Look at the rice paddies. 논 풍경이 정말 멋집니다 We found it. 찾았습니다 The tomb. 묘역입니다 The tomb of the prince. 왕자님의 묘입니다 And what a spot it is. 정말 멋진 자리에 있네요 Here the graveyard includes the tombs of Prince Yeonghae, 이 묘역에는 영해군과 a son of King Sejong and 'loyal' Lady Kim. 'Loyal' 김씨 부인의 묘가 함께 자리하고 있습니다 I guess they mean Royal Lady Kim? 아마 ‘Royal 김씨 부인’을 뜻하는 것 같은데요 His father-in-law and descendants. 장인과 후손들의 묘도 함께 있습니다 So researchers put great value on the stele 그래서 연구자들은 이 비석을 매우 중요하게 여기는데 for the tomb of his eldest son Yi. 특히 장남 이씨의 묘비를 중요하게 평가한다고 합니다 And as it is supposedly the first example of geographical names 왜냐하면 이 비석이 도봉이나 노원 같은 지명이 such as Dobong and Nowon being inscribed on a stele. 새겨진 최초 사례로 여겨지기 때문입니다 Ah that is interesting. 아 그건 흥미롭네요 So there's a stele in front of the grave 그러니까 무덤 앞 비석에 that mentions the word ‘Dobong’. ‘도봉’이라는 단어가 새겨져 있다는 거군요 Maybe referring to the mountain Dobongsan. 도봉산을 의미하는 걸 수도 있고 Or maybe the temple Dobongsa. 도봉사를 뜻하는 걸 수도 있고 Or maybe the neighborhood Dobong-dong. 도봉동을 의미하는 걸 수도 있습니다 Or Dobong-gu. 아니면 도봉구일 수도 있고요 So the graveyard is viewed as precious cultural heritage 그래서 이 묘역은 귀중한 문화유산으로 평가받고 있는데 as it provides a great wealth of information on the grave system 왕실 묘제에 대한 다양한 정보와 for the royal family and changes in the stone figures placed near tombs. 무덤 주변 석물 양식의 변화를 잘 보여주기 때문입니다 Look how big these stones are. 이 돌들 크기 좀 보세요 You know to compare it with me. 저랑 비교해보시면 I'm almost two meters. 저 거의 2미터거든요 I'm 196. 키가 196입니다 So this is two meters tall. 그러니까 이 석물도 거의 2미터 높이라는 거죠 What a place. 정말 대단한 곳입니다 It's kind of hard to explain. 설명하기가 쉽지 않은데 It's so relaxing in here. 여기가 정말 편안합니다 It's so nice that you almost forget what I did. 너무 좋아서 제가 뭘 하고 있었는지도 잊게 되네요 I almost forgot that I was filming a vlog. 브이로그 촬영 중이라는 것도 거의 잊고 있었습니다 And then oh Bart come on you're still working. 그러다 갑자기 ‘아 바트야 아직 촬영 중이지’ 싶더라고요 Come to your job otherwise you have to come back. 정신 차리고 찍어야 다시 안 오죠 I thought they were mowing the grass 처음에는 누가 잔디를 깎는 줄 알았는데 and then I realized it's the bees that are zooming. 알고 보니 벌들이 날아다니는 소리였습니다 The bees. 벌들이요 There's so many bees. 벌이 정말 많습니다 I don't want to get any closer. 더 가까이 가고 싶진 않네요 I know they probably won't do anything 아마 별일은 없겠지만 but you never know. 그래도 모르는 일이니까요 Thousands of them. 수천 마리는 되는 것 같습니다 Seriously if you saw this shot 진지하게 이 장면만 본다면 would you ever guess this is Seoul. 여기가 서울이라고 상상이나 할 수 있을까요 There's a legend that after his son's tomb was built here in 1477, 1477년에 아들의 묘가 이곳에 조성된 뒤 King Sejong visited the valley, drank the spring water, 세종대왕이 이 계곡을 찾아 샘물을 마시고 admired the scenery, and supposedly described it 풍경을 감상한 뒤 as a place without sorrow or worries. 근심과 걱정이 없는 곳이라고 말했다는 전설이 있습니다 That's allegedly where the name Mujugol comes from. 무수골이라는 이름도 거기서 유래했다고 전해집니다 Whenever Koreans talk about healing after a trip into nature 한국 사람들이 자연 속에서 힐링했다고 말할 때 this is probably what they mean. 아마 이런 느낌을 말하는 것 같네요 I think I found them guys. 여러분 찾은 것 같습니다 Here are several gigantic hanoks. 여기 엄청 큰 한옥들이 있습니다 They're so big that they must have been 규모가 워낙 커서 of the Jeonju or Andong clan. 전주 이씨나 안동 김씨 가문 집안이었을 것 같습니다 Look at this. 이것 좀 보세요 Look at the size of them and they're so gorgeous. 크기도 엄청나고 정말 아름답습니다 It's all just a guessing game now 지금은 전부 추측일 뿐이지만 but it's quite peculiar that you have suddenly like 갑자기 이런 곳에 one, two, three, four, five, probably a few more 하나, 둘, 셋, 넷, 다섯, 어쩌면 그 이상으로 huge hanoks standing here in the open with a big garden. 거대한 한옥들이 넓은 정원과 함께 자리하고 있다는 게 정말 독특합니다 Yeah you tell me if you know. 혹시 아시는 분 있으면 알려주세요 Is it the Andong Kim clan or the Jeonju Yi clan? 안동 김씨 집안일까요, 아니면 전주 이씨 집안일까요?

[00:10:00]So the trail to the temple, busy and touristy, 절로 가는 길은 관광객도 많고 꽤 붐비는 편인데 follows the northern stream in Dobong-dong. 도봉동 북쪽 계곡을 따라 이어집니다 But the southern stream is the much quieter one, 반면 남쪽 계곡은 훨씬 조용하고 leading you toward the rice paddies and the princess tomb. 논밭과 왕자 묘역 쪽으로 이어집니다 Now we're heading to a place that stands in complete contrast 이제는 지금까지 본 풍경과는 to everything we've seen so far. 완전히 다른 분위기의 장소로 가보겠습니다 We have to go all the way to the northernmost point of Dobong, 도봉의 가장 북쪽 끝까지 가야 하는데 passing two charming train stations along the way. 가는 길에 분위기 좋은 기차역 두 곳도 지나게 됩니다 I think this is it here on my left. 제 왼쪽에 있는 곳이 바로 여기인 것 같네요 It's a place that I read about 제가 글로만 읽어봤던 장소인데 and I've never seen it on social media. SNS에서는 한 번도 본 적이 없습니다 Could be my algorithms 그냥 제 알고리즘 때문일 수도 있지만 but I don't think many people know about this place. 많은 사람들이 아는 장소는 아닌 것 같습니다 Maybe just the people who live nearby. 아마 근처 주민들 정도만 알겠죠 And it's right at the northern edge of Seoul. 그리고 여기는 서울의 최북단에 있습니다 If you walk past this building you walk straight out of Seoul. 이 건물을 지나쳐 걸어가면 바로 서울 밖이에요 So let's check it out. 한번 들어가보겠습니다 And right from the bed, a piece of the Berlin Wall. 들어오자마자 베를린 장벽 조각이 보이네요 So this structure here on my right, 제 오른쪽에 있는 이 구조물은 this used to be an anti-tank apartment building, apartment complex. 예전에 대전차 방어용 아파트 단지였다고 합니다 I imagine it was much higher than this. 원래는 지금보다 훨씬 높았을 거예요 People lived inside, maybe just military personnel. 안에는 사람들이 살았고 아마 군인들도 있었겠죠 And if then the enemy would come from that direction, 만약 적이 저 방향에서 내려온다면 let's say North Korea, then this would be a first obstacle. 예를 들어 북한군이라면 이곳이 첫 번째 방어선 역할을 했을 겁니다 So there's an observatory. 여기 전망대도 있습니다 From here we look straight into Gyeonggi-do. 여기서 바로 경기도 방향이 보입니다 And here you can see the structure really well 여기서 보면 이 구조물이 all the way to Dobongsan station. 도봉산역 방향까지 길게 이어진 게 잘 보입니다 And these were apartments. 이곳이 실제 아파트였다는 거죠 From here they were waiting 이곳에서 사람들은 for another North Korean surprise attack. 북한의 기습 공격에 대비하고 있었습니다 And we heard surprisingly little about this. 그런데 이런 이야기는 의외로 잘 알려져 있지 않습니다 Imagine living in those apartments 저런 아파트에 살면서 and you have a view over Samgaksan, Dobongsan, 삼각산과 도봉산, and that mountain. 그리고 저 산까지 Three mountains. 세 개의 산이 한눈에 보인다고 생각해보세요 That's crazy. 대박일 것 같아요 Hello 안녕하세요 Where are you from? 어디서 오셨어요?

[00:11:39]It's a nice observatory though. 그래도 전망대는 정말 좋네요 Nine out of ten times we go on a rooftop in my videos. 제 영상에서는 열 번 중 아홉 번은 꼭 옥상에 올라가거든요 And I was almost afraid that we wouldn't find a nice rooftop. 이번에는 괜찮은 옥상을 못 찾을까 봐 걱정했는데 But this counts. 여기도 인정입니다 It's an observatory, but I count it as a rooftop guys. 전망대이긴 하지만 저는 이걸 옥상으로 치겠습니다 여러분 So don't complain about this. 그러니까 불만은 없으셔야 합니다 Even Ahjussi, who came up the observatory, 방금 전망대에 올라오신 아저씨도 he is here on the structure and doesn't know what it is, right? 이 구조물이 뭔지 모르고 계셨잖아요 So people come here and still don't know what it is. 그러니까 여기 와서도 이곳이 뭔지 모르는 사람들이 많은 겁니다 To give you an idea of what it looked like, 예전 모습이 어땠는지 보여드리자면 here's an old photo. 여기 오래된 사진이 있습니다 It was a military defense structure 이곳은 군사 방어 시설이었는데 disguised as an apartment complex, 아파트 단지처럼 위장되어 있었습니다 built to stop enemy tanks from entering Seoul from the north. 북쪽에서 서울로 진입하는 적 전차를 막기 위해 지어진 것이죠 The facility was completed in 1969 이 시설은 1969년에 완공되었고 and stretches about 250 meters long. 길이는 약 250미터에 달합니다 Today it's being reborn as a cultural space, 현재는 문화 공간으로 새롭게 활용되고 있고 and people seem to genuinely enjoy it. 사람들도 정말 좋아하는 것 같네요 The second to fourth floors were used 2층부터 4층까지는 as civilian apartments for camouflage purposes. 위장 목적의 민간 아파트로 사용되었습니다 At first, soldiers lived here, 처음에는 군인들이 살았고 but later ordinary citizens moved in as well. 이후에는 일반 시민들도 입주했다고 합니다 I'm actually curious if any of my followers 제 구독자 중에 once lived in this building. 예전에 이 건물에 살았던 분이 있을지도 궁금하네요 It really shows how seriously the North Korea threat was taken 1960대 후반과 1970년대 초에 북한의 위협을 in the late 1960s and early 1970s. 얼마나 심각하게 받아들였는지 잘 보여주는 것 같아요 As much as I love buildings like this 저는 이런 건물과 and the history attached to them, 그 안에 담긴 역사를 정말 좋아하지만 what really stayed with me was Mujugol 가장 인상 깊게 남은 건 역시 무수골이었습니다 and how little it felt like Seoul. 그리고 그곳이 서울 같지 않았다는 점이요 Honestly, unlike anywhere I've visited so far in the city, 솔직히 지금까지 서울에서 가본 곳들 가운데 I really want to put it on the map as 저는 이곳을 정말로 이렇게 기록하고 싶어요 ‘Seoul's northern countryside’. ‘서울 북쪽의 시골’ Maybe it's not the most original nickname, 이런 별명이 예전에도 있었을지 모르겠지만 but it genuinely feels true to me. 정말 진심으로 그렇게 느껴졌습니다 See you next time. 다음에 또 뵙겠습니다 Houdoe! 하우두!
