Ripple's monthly XRP sales (approximately 300 million XRP) are part of a controlled escrow system where 1 billion XRP unlocks monthly but most returns to escrow, and historical price data shows that even during periods of massive selling pressure (like Jed McCaleb's 9 billion XRP sale over 8 years), XRP still experienced significant rallies, indicating that selling pressure alone does not determine price movements.

Ripple Sells MILLIONS Of XRP Every Month
Added:I refuse to believe that Brad Garlinghouse doesn't know that this month and every month since 2018, his company opens locked XRP wallets and 1 billion leaves. Here's the part that most people leave out. Millions of that XRP do not get put back in. Millions get sold every month by the company while you're holding. So, the question you're asking is simple. Is Ripple selling its XRP and making you a bag holder? Let's settle the issue. If you're an XRP holder, this is the single biggest argument against your position. One you have to come to terms with or the reason you avoid it entirely. Every asset has a story people tell to scare you out of it. Bitcoin these days has only criminals use it. I guess criminals suddenly stop using the US dollar.
Governments won't hold Bitcoin doesn't work anymore, so people pivot. I get that XRP has Ripple suppresses the price. The insiders sell, the retail holders buy, and the whole thing is a slow motion transfer of money from your pocket to theirs. If that story is true, it doesn't matter how good the technology is. Doesn't matter how many banks sign partnerships. A permanent seller sitting on top of the market puts a ceiling on your investment forever.
You'd be swimming with weights on. So, we're going to do our best to walk the line between crypto hype moonboy and people who think this is a scam and you'll only lose money. Tap the like button if you appreciate that sort of thing. This all will build to where we can look at one time in XRP's history when this exact situation appeared that actually wasn't Ripple selling tons of XRP, but another entity was. And almost nobody talks about it these days, but it's so important to understand for this asset. What you do with this information is up to you. My name is Raj. XRP is my biggest crypto position and on this channel we talk about money. Yes, Ripple sells XRP, millions of it every month.
That part of the story is true and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But the knee-jerk reaction people have is that this selling is what's holding the price down. That you're the exit liquidity.
But that story doesn't survive a simple cross check with the price chart. We will do that in this video because XRP already had a seller hammering the market every single day for years. And during that exact window, XRP had one of the biggest rallies in its history, rivaling the most recent move. By the end of this video, you have three things. One, the real escro numbers so you can stay level-headed when the billion XRP dumped headline pops up again. Two, the MAB chart, the situation in Ripples and XRP's history that already answered this question in terms of how this affects the XRP price. And three, the part that the XRP critics, people who confidently call this a scam, never mention. Here's what actually happened beyond the headlines. In 2017, Ripple locked 55 billion XRP into escrow contracts on the ledger itself. This is code, a feature of the XRP ledger. You and I can actually set up our own escrow feature for RXRP if we wanted to. Every month, 1 billion unlocks. That's the headline number we read every month. The part that the doom and gloom headlines miss is that this historically the large majority of that billion goes straight back to a new escrow at the back of the line. It never touches the market. What Ripple actually has available is the remainder and what it actually sells is smaller. Millions is the true number.
Now, you notice something else. The true number is still concerning. I'm not going to sugarcoat this to make you feel better. You probably have real money on the line. We need to see this for what it is. On average, 300 million XRP becomes available to Ripple every month.
And hundreds of millions of that gets sold by the largest holders in the ecosystem. So why do they sell at all?
Ripple's chief technical officer, David Schwarz, answered this directly. He said in a tweet, "Because Ripple has the most XRP, and in practice, the only realistic alternative to selling it is continue to hold XRP indefinitely." Now, that doesn't sound great, but we need context. Companies need money to operate. Ripple's treasury is XRP. when they sell some to fund the business, payroll, acquisitions, legal fees, building the thing you're invested in.
The idea of using XRP as a means to move and settle funds. That is functionally what every company on Earth does when it raises money. The difference is that when a startup sells shares to fund itself, we call it a series C. When Bitcoin miners sell their Bitcoin, that's Bitcoin working as expected. When Ripple sells tokens, people call it a scam. And on the matter of Ripple executives selling their XRP for massive amounts of wealth, I think it's interesting that the people that find a problem with this are also the ones that think in their heads that if they make a bunch of money, they would never do anything, never work ever again. And when you study people who are successful, you find that very quickly after achieving massive amounts of wealth, they just go back to helping people or building businesses or some combination of the two. You will do something when you acquire massive amounts of money. All the partying and yachts we see on Instagram, whatever fantasy land ideas that get pushed on the internet, they quickly get boring and it's something that you see when you study success time and time again. The other option is you go off the deep end, which is not ideal. The executives that people have a problem with who sold their XRP have chosen with their time, arguably their most valuable asset, to continue to work at Ripple to build the future. It was their property that they sold. That understanding also applies to you and your holdings when you decide to sell as well. How you perceive this is up to you. I personally am fine with sales of XRP as long as they're using it to continue to build the company which is in the best interest of the XRP token. From the perspective of an investor who is in a high-risk highreward asset, this has been the case since 2017. I accept that not everyone is comfortable with the idea of Ripple selling and using the money for anything. I hear you. No one is forcing you to buy anything here. But now I ask you, does the selling really matter?
Which brings us to the chart. As we know, investors invest to make money.
Does this have a real effect? To understand the chart I'm about to show you, you need one piece of history that most XRP holders don't bring up a lot.
XRP wasn't created by Ripple. In 2011 and 12, three engineers built the XRP ledger. David Schwarz, Arthur Bridto, and Jed Mum. The company came after, and the founders were allocated enormous amounts of XRP. Maleb left Ripple early.
He went off and founded Stellar, but he left holding roughly 9 billion XRP. A single individual holding close to a tenth of the entire supply, who no longer believed in the project and had every reason to convert it all to cash.
It wasn't that he might sell, it's that everyone knew he would sell. Ripple knew it, too, which is why they took him to the table and found a workaround. Maleb could sell, but only at a controlled pace, capped by a small percentage of XRP's daily trading volume. So from that point until the day his wallet hit zero, the XRP market had a forced seller.
Every trading day, Raid or Shine Buller bear a seller, just like XRP's monthly programmatic sales. The difference is that Ripple wants a higher price. Maleb was just leaving, which sets up the question this entire video set out to answer. What did the price actually do while the biggest force seller was selling every single day? Here's the chart. So, we're clear. I wasn't able to find an exact day where Jed sales started. It was somewhere around 2013 and 2014, which is basically the furthest the chart goes back. His final transfers emptied the Jed's taco stand wallet in July of 2022. I've outlined the MB era on the chart. Look what's inside the region. the 2017 run with Maleb selling fully known to the market.
XRP ran to nearly $4, one of the largest percent gains of any major asset in that entire cycle. At that time, it looks like the selling didn't even slow things down visibly in that period. And also, the 2021 rally, this one matters more because by now, Maleb was selling more aggressively than previously because there was more volume in the markets.
His sales were limited by daily volume.
The price still ran up and keep in mind Ripple was being sued by the SEC at this time. More on that later. In my opinion, that's probably why XRP missed out on that bull cycle. Now, look at July 2022.
Maleb's wallet finally runs dry. His XRP distributed and sold over 8 years is gone. And isn't it interesting that the price sat low for a long time afterward?
2022 was a brutal bare market period for everything crypto. From my understanding of this chart and the context, it is clear XRP moved with the market, not with MCB selling. When the selling was in effect, the price could still rally like in 2017 when the selling stopped completely. The price didn't accelerate right after. In both directions, the massive sell pressure failed to be the thing driving the price. The event that is most associated with XRP price depression was the SEC's action, not Ripple, not Jed. The macro cycle drove the price. Bitcoin drove the price.
Liquidity conditions drove the price.
The seller everyone obsessed over was noise. And here's the real interesting part. Ripple's escrow releases were happening from 2018 forward. And they didn't stop XRP from hitting nearly $4 in that 2017 2018 run or above $3 again in 2025. The idea that Ripple's self-interested, publicly reported sales are what's holding the price down. Well, the chart just doesn't seem to back that up. Most people never look at the chart in the same way. I'm sure you've heard XRP price doesn't do anything. Well, maybe not while those people have been around. It's easier to believe you're the victim of a scheme than to accept the boring answer that XRP trades like a high-risisk crypto asset in a market that moves on macro. And most people did not buy at the lows. Now, I told you at the start there was one piece of this that XRP critics don't mention. Think about what Ripple lived through. A multi-year lawsuit from the SEC, an agency that during that era was in open hostility with the entire crypto industry. Years of the company's internals spread across a room, accusations of wrongdoing, breaking the law when no laws formerly existed for this asset class. If there was ever an entity with the motive, the legal resources, and the legal power to prove that Ripple was running a pump and dump Ponzi scheme scam on retail holders, it was the SEC between 2020 and 2023. And what do they actually charge?
Unregistered security sales. A registration and classification fight.
Not fraud, not market manipulation, not a Ponzi. The SEC never ordered exchanges to delist XRP. The exchanges that removed it did so on their own to avoid the legal risk. The exchange Uphold never faltered during this process. You could buy and sell XRP for the whole lawsuit. The SEC wanted to send a message and this was their best angle they came up with. And remember, we trade securities, stocks every day. No problem. GameStop, AMC, SpaceX, go crazy. This by and large was a matter of legal word play. Now, absence of evidence isn't proof of innocence, but when the SEC's job is to protect investors and they come up short, that is worth noting. Now, zoom out one more level. This was the era of what the industry calls operation choke point 2.0, a coordinated regulatory pressure to cut crypto companies off from banking. For years, that phrase sounded like a conspiracy theory. Then in 2025, released FDIC records showed that regulators had been sending banks letters pressuring them to pause crypto-reated activity. I am sorry that our government spent a decade asleep at the wheel, letting a multi-trillion dollar asset class exist with no formal laws. That regulatory chaos was and very much still is part of the risk you take for this asset class. So Ripple sells millions of XRP a month. Jed Maleb sold for years as well. The price action on the chart says this isn't as big of a deal as the critics want to believe compared to SEC enforcement and overall what's happening with Bitcoin and other broader markets. For me personally, I'm here to take a risk and make a profit.
No guarantees of course, so the price going down isn't going to get me to sell. The price going up will. If you thought I walked the line between CryptoHype Moonboy and this is a scam, tap the like button. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and I'll see you in the next
