In criminal cases involving violent street attacks, courts impose prison sentences based on the severity of the assault, use of weapons, and harm caused to victims. In this case, three suspects received prison terms ranging from 3 to 7.5 years for their roles in a September attack on Short Vine, with main instigators receiving the longest sentences while accomplices received shorter terms or community control.

Suspects sentenced in Corryville attackAdded:
at 5:00, several suspects charged in last fall's violent street attack on Short Vine. They learn their punishment today. Thanks for joining us. I'm Rob Williams.
>> And I'm Teneia Cordell. Our Annie Elm is live right now breaking down how long they'll spend in prison and what was said in court today.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah, good evening. It was an emotional day in court as video was played of that attack on September 13th on on three people who were walking after picking up a pizza.
>> Three suspects, Deonte Conyers, Austin Smith, and Braden Hall, who pleaded guilty in the attack, facing a judge today, expressing their regret for what took place that night.
>> Just sorry for what happened. I can't change what I did, but it was stupid and childish and I'll take it back if I could.
>> Say that I'm sorry again for what I've done and sorry for all the pain and suffering that you had to go through.
>> I feel like I'm not complaining on alcohol or anything, but I feel like alcohol is not in my system that night.
I feel like I would have been more of a helper not a not a aggressor in that situation.
>> Deonte Conyers and Austin Smith were sentenced to five to seven and a half years, and Braden Hall was sentenced to three to four and a half years.
Prosecutors say three people were walking with a pizza on Short Vine on September 13th when a group of people approached them.
>> Walking away and and heading home when someone in the crowd called out and and said, "Hey, give me that pizza." One of our victims said, "No, we're just trying to go home." Uh and and that started a back-and-forth that ultimately resulted in one of them being struck in the back of the head.
>> Prosecutors say Austin Smith used a weapon to injure one of the victims.
>> It really wasn't until Austin Smith used a firearm that he had with him that day.
And he came up behind the victim and while the victim was turned away, struck him, reaching around his body, hitting him in the face, instantly knocking him to the ground, and breaking his jaw.
>> One of the victims in the attack also addressing the judge saying he shielded his friend during the attack.
>> The year that I got a concussion and I was unable to take my last ACFT because of what these men did. They I hope they get years to think about what they have done.
Um, I hope they get time to find God's mercy and to accept your judgment.
>> Prosecution also describing Hall's role in the attack.
>> One of the the sort of angriest contributors. Um, it's it's his fault entirely that there is a second attack on the ground because when the victim tries to get away, it's Mr. Hall that that really just unloads haymakers on him and >> A woman also suffered a facial injury.
Other suspects also pleaded guilty as well for their involvement. Joshua Anstead was sentenced to 3 years community control. Kenneth Bolin was sentenced to 9 months in prison and Haley Hornsby was sentenced to 2 years community control.
Yeah, and another person was also sentenced. Cameron Smith they pled to aggravated assault and aggravated riot on the 14th of this month and they were sentenced to 3 years community control.
The Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office also just sent out a statement a short while ago and I'll read some of that to you from Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich. The statement goes on to say the main instigators will spend significant time in prison as they should. Let this be a warning. I do not take these attacks lightly downtown or anywhere else. But for now, we're putting down to help with journal Cindy Bellamy, Annie Elming, Fox 19 now.
