NWS surveying 2 tornadoes in southern Illinois追加:
As we go on the air at noon, the National Weather Service is confirming at least two tornadoes formed during last night's storm. This is the damage from one of the twisters in Germantown.
There are no reports of injuries, thankfully. It's too soon to know how big either tornado was, but crews are in both locations right now to survey the damage.
Thanks for joining us. I'm Paul Cook. It was a very long night for our storm team. They were on the air pretty much all day. The National Weather Service issued 26 tornado warnings. The tornadoes hit later in the night. One near Mascoutah, the other in Clinton County, tracking between Germantown and Carlyle. We start our team coverage with 5 on Your Side's Holden Kurwicki. He's in the town of Lebanon with a look at how local businesses are carrying on despite the damage.
For the last 50 years, Stock Transport has called this area off of Faust Road and Route 4, southeast of Lebanon, Illinois, home. They employ between 50 to 60 people, but when they showed up to work this morning, this is what they found. It was raging through here. I mean, it it was bad. Trucker Tyler Smith admitted he didn't think much of Monday night's storm until he left his Carlyle home and started driving to work. It was a ghost town. I mean, everything was pitch black. Everything was There were some power lines down. Occasionally, power lines snapped.
>> He was one of the first workers to lay eyes on the damage the storm did to the Stock's repair shop. I don't think I'm going to get my trailer fixed anytime soon.
>> Uh it's a setback, obviously, but it's not something that we won't be able to get through as we do. Wood, sheet metal, and insulation were scattered across the property.
But dispatcher Ryan Thompson told me that isn't enough to stop the company from delivering shipments on time.
>> We are continuing to operate our vehicles today, and our trucks are running uh while we make certain changes for a temporary maintenance and support for the vehicles and customers. How do you begin trying to get some of that stuff off your equipment in there? One piece at a time. I spoke with both managers and employees here at Stock Transport, who told me since the storm hit overnight, there was no one here working at this time, which is almost a godsend because no one was injured.
Reporting outside of Lebanon, Illinois, Holden Kurwicki, 5 On Your Side.
Hey, good afternoon. It's Reagan DeTroye with 5 On Your Side, and we are off North Florissant Road in Ferguson, and there's significant damage in this neighborhood. Let me move out of the way while we show you just how big this tree is. As you can see, it's fallen in this person's yard, and you can barely see There's actually a vehicle underneath the tree's branches. You can see the headlight a little bit, but it is a significant damage here in Ferguson, and you can see that some of this home is damaged, but thankfully, emergency officials have told us that there's no injuries to report at this time. Just lots of fallen debris and even downed power lines here on this residential street in North County. Now, this is not the only damage we've seen in Ferguson overnight. Over another tree fell on an entertainment business just across the street from the police and fire departments, and fire crews were up all night working to repair downed power lines. Police and public works crews have been out assessing the damage all throughout Monday evening and into Tuesday morning as well, but there's definitely going to be a hefty cleanup process throughout the rest of the evening. Reporting in Ferguson, I'm Reagan DeTroye, 5 On Your Side.
Ameren is reporting about 23,000 homes are without power on both sides of the river. A handful of schools even had to cancel class today because of those outages. So, we are still doing the cleanup here, Lance. It was a wild day yesterday. I sound terrible. Hey, that means you were working, buddy. I saw you outside, inside. Uh the voice I'm doing the best I can with what I got right now. You're a human being. Yeah, we had a lot of storms yesterday. I will tell you this that the lower levels were explosive for severe weather development. Right above us, it was not.
It was displaced a little bit. If those had lined up, yes, it would have been much worse. So, while we still had a lot of impacts across the area, I'm sorry about this voice.
>> I hear you.
>> I'm trying.
>> I do hear you. Well, we had a lot of impacts, but we're grateful that it was not worse than it actually was. Check out the storm reports there. A lot of hail reports across the area. Hopefully, your car and your house were okay from that damage, but um we saw a lot of large hail across the area there as well.
