This video explains that during drought conditions, summer weather patterns typically persist with high pressure creating heat domes, resulting in hot, dry conditions with only isolated thunderstorm chances; the forecast shows temperatures climbing into the low 90s by the weekend, with minimal rain expected for the next 7 days, and the region is on pace for the third driest year on record due to low precipitation since fall combined with high water usage during spring and summer months.

Dry and bright with gusty winds through FridayAdded:
All right, we're keeping an eye on a little band of showers trying to move through the mountains. This is a live view up at Beech Mountain near the Parkway. You can see actually the sunshine is out there, so that little band has kind of pushed through that area. So, even in the mountains, this is not amounting to home a whole lot. Many areas are staying dry, but you see that band of showers moving right now through the to the south and east. This is a a cold front, so we do have some rain out there, but don't count on seeing any.
It's going to be pretty isolated, if at all. I mean, this was nothing as it moved through the mountains, and it's going to get a lot worse as it pushes just south and east. So, when those rain chances 20-30%, that might be super optimistic. So, at least it's a chance, but it will get cooler once that front moves through. You'll notice temperatures tumbling back down into the 40s and 50s tonight and tomorrow. Unlike today, where we got close to 80, we're going to struggle to get to 70 tomorrow.
So, most of the day will be in the 50s and 60s, but still plenty of sunshine, northwest winds, and really great weather. You can open the windows here, get fresh air in the house the next 2 days, really 2 and 1/2 days, before the heat builds. Here comes that front.
You'll can see uh not much rain with it.
Uh it's kind of so dry, and just kind of reminiscent of every front that heads our way uh in this drought so far.
Outside of that great rain chance last week, we really have not seen anything.
We're We're on pace for the third driest year on record right now. It's been so dry this year, and this drought goes back all the way to the fall. The problem is this time of year, our water usage goes through the roof, and everything's trying to grow, so it just makes the drought that much worse when you have it in the spring going into the summer. Cuz once you get into the summer months, scattered storms don't cut it, but at least we have that chance coming up late next week. But, it's a long time before we get there. So, we're dry and warm for the next several days. In fact, it's going to stay dry all the way through the weekend into next week. As the humidity starts to build though, we will see that potential for some isolated thunderstorms. Your rainfall forecast shows the big goose egg over us. No rain in the next 7 days. It's really isolated chances at best, and the heat's going to be building as well.
High pressure's going to build over the southeast in a heat dome kind of fashion here. So, this is a very summer-like pattern setting up next week. So, it will be hot, but it's going to be humid and that means at least a pop-up storm or two, but those will be so isolated that not everyone will see them and that's why getting into the summer pattern with a drought usually means you're going to stay there until we get to the fall or winter. So, right now the chances of getting out of this drought this summer are pretty close to zero. Um we're just hoping to maintain things and not get much worse. Upper upper 80s on Saturday, low 90s on Sunday. Your Jerry Hunt Supercenter 7-day forecast shows those [music] temperatures climbing into the low 90s by the weekend and then next week staying there. You could see how hot and dry it's going to be, but by the end of next week, maybe a glimmer of hope that we'll see some scattered storms going into Memorial Day weekend.
Stay tuned. That's pretty far out there and you can't really get specific on rain chances just yet. All right.
