[00:00:00]in that basically people called for the Kaiser to abdicate and he did abdicate and then it was a question of you know whatever that first vote would decide kind of what the new Germany should be. So you had everything from communism to parties that wanted to restore the monarchy on the ballot paper and everything in between. So it was also kind of for Germans to decide at that point not just who the next government should be but basically what their country should be.

[00:00:26]So you get all the newspapers calling on people to go and vote they're saying you know this is the biggest decision you we will ever make as a people.

[00:00:34]You go now because this assembly will effectively write the constitution and decide but it is in German hands and this is very different from after the Second World War when the country is occupied. Remember Germany isn't occupied at this point.

[00:00:46]Yes there is a threat of war but it's still a German led political elite even if it's a new elite that decides what's what's happening next.
