Goeke effectively dismantles the "natural" halo of raw honey by grounding the discussion in basic carbohydrate chemistry. It is a necessary reminder that metabolic reality remains unchanged regardless of how unprocessed a sugar source claims to be.

Raw Honey Is Still SugarAñadido:
Is honey a low carbohydrate food?
Last week I dealt with a lot of nonsense. I really did. A lot of nonsense. But one of the most nonsensical claims that I dealt with was the idea that truly raw unheated honey shouldn't be considered a high carb food because honey you should not view as a carbohydrate source at all because the carbohydrate content is less and also most importantly it has enzymes to break that sugar down.
Really? Well, let's just do a little bit of a fact check here, shall we? I'll show it up on the screen. Truly raw unheated fresh from harvest honey.
Meaning honey that has not been heated or filtered enough to materially change the composition.
Um one tablespoon one tablespoon that's a traditional that's a typical serving size of honey, right?
One tablespoon of this type of honey is still about 17 g of carbohydrate.
Still.
Okay? Still.
Now, if you want to be more precise a a standard tablespoon of honey standard it's usually counted as 21 g by weight but that includes 17.3 g of total carbohydrate. So literally it is primarily carbohydrate. Okay?
That's uh that's it. Okay?
That's according to to general food data.
All right?
Now the difference here is that yes it does preserve enzymes and it preserves traces of pollen and all that other nonsense. But it doesn't meaningfully lower the carbohydrate content. So no bye done done with that myth. Let's just discard that.
Let's just discard that. Okay? Let's just go ahead and do that.
But here is almost the this is the most egregious part of this claim and this idea.
The enzymes though the enzymes.
Really?
Are you aware of what those enzymes are?
Anyone that's making this claim not you not you. You know that this is nonsense.
You know that this is ridiculous.
Okay?
But if you're watching and you're someone that agrees with this Sorry, bud.
Sorry, bro.
The enzymes that are concerned here with this claim are enzymes that are involved yes in the breaking down of more well, they're not complex sugars in the chemical sense, but they're they're not the simple sugars like glucose and fructose.
That doesn't mean that the enzymes prevent the sugar from being absorbed.
That means that the enzymes break apart things like sucrose that's in honey.
Into glucose and fructose.
Then you absorb those.
It is it is still the same thing. You are not doing anything differently.
Nothing differently.
You are still getting the glucose and fructose absorbed. Most of the sugar in honey is in the form of glucose and fructose already.
In fact, I believe that the majority of the sugar is in the form of fructose in honey.
Believe that it's about 54% fructose.
Maybe 52% maybe 51% it doesn't matter.
Even if it's 50/50 who cares?
It's still straight sugar and and I'm not going to end it here.
This speaks to a broader point just like all of these things do whether people see it or not.
People will go so far as to suggest that honey is not a low carb food or not not not a high carb food.
They'll say it's not a high carb food in order to justify their sugar addiction. Okay, first first it's carbs are good.
Really really it goes before that. First it's wow carbs are really bad. This is this isn't appropriate for us to be eating.
Then it's well, they're not like that bad. They shouldn't be like demonized or anything like that. I mean having like 20 g here and there is fine.
And then it's well, 50 g is all right, too. And then it's well, 100 and then whenever you get to whenever it gets so conspicuously large okay that it becomes unignorable the amount that you're consuming then it's well, actually it's beneficial again.
Just not in the way that most people think they are.
It's beneficial for performance. Oh, well, if you do all these other things you can prevent the the the fattening influence of carbohydrate and the and the damage that they actually induce into the body.
Yeah.
Right. Yeah, of course. Of course. Yeah, why didn't we figure that out before?
Ah.
Right. So then it becomes 300 g 400 g and then you know what happens? You know what happens? Then the same pattern happens. It becomes so unignorable. You go okay, well carbs maybe you maybe you're willing to accept which you shouldn't be but maybe they've beguiled you so much they've manipulated you so much that you believe okay, well yeah carbs are helpful for performance 100 200 g whatever.
But then you face the same problem whenever you get to the three and 400 g range. You go okay, but not that much. I mean are you serious? You're suggesting that three to 400 g is seriously like that's beneficial?
So then they have to come up with something else.
And now it's well, honey isn't high carb actually if it's raw and unheated.
What are you talking about? What are you talking about?
How is this how is this taken any how is this taken seriously? I wonder that's another question. Who is taking this seriously? Because if you knew the answer to that question stay away from those people at all costs.
Honey is honey actually isn't a high carb food.
You just got to not heat it.
Uh really?
Really? Okay.
>> [snorts] >> Anyway anyway, just thought that I would clear the air on that one.
Because I couldn't even believe it whenever the individual concerned said such a thing.
I couldn't believe it. I mean granted I I guess I should have seen it coming whenever he said that basically every every statue of a woman from from history is looked at as obese. Every beautiful woman is obese. Shouldn't sculptures of beautiful women they're all obese. I don't want to be woke They're all obese.
And actually being fat is good for you.
But why else would babies get fat other than being fat is good for you?
But anyway anyway, just thought that I'd chime in here because I'm tired of the confusion. I'm tired of the the the doubt that people sow because one of the things that happens is some of the most confu the things that confuse you the most are the things that are said so confidently about such obvious things about such axiomatic claims.
It's actually a very I mean it's a paradoxical phenomenon but but it happens to be true.
Someone can say some some things that are just false but they might sound true and and you can more confidently say that that's false. You can respond with that's false more confidently.
But when it comes to really basic stuff those are the things that actually take you aback the most and you start questioning yourself. You said that so confidently about something that's so axiomatically true.
It's like well man am I wrong?
And so it actually paradoxically it's it's those claims that need the most emphatic vociferous refutations.
Because and vehement backlash really cuz this is backlash.
As it ought to be.
And so anyway anyway, that's why I'm making such a fuss over this. Seriously we've gone now from from carbs are okay carbs are beneficial and now all the way to well, this thing that you think has lots of carbs in it actually doesn't because I said so.
What's next? What is next? Carbs don't exist?
I mean that sounds ridiculous that's like beyond stupid.
That's like saying I don't know well, I don't I I actually don't know. I I genuinely cannot find a comparison.
It's like saying that your favorite show is real.
I don't know. It's it's so obviously false but it's just wishful thinking.
It's chimeric.
So anyway anyway if you enjoyed the video if you found it helpful honestly you shouldn't have found this helpful.
>> [laughter] >> I'm sorry. You should not have found this helpful.
If you did though because you know it gives you a refresher on on the sugar content of honey. I guess in that sense it makes sense. It makes sense.
Leave a like.
Subscribe to me if you haven't already.
If you haven't subscribed yet if you haven't left a like what are you doing?
Okay, maybe you're the maybe you're someone that actually believes that honey is a low a low carbohydrate food.
Do you believe that?
If not if not I I trust that you don't but if not why do you want to be like them? Because you know that they're going to be in the comments saying well, actually actually you're wrong because well Agnes Varda Planets said No disrespect by the way to Agnes Varda Planets like as a person I don't know anything I It's a fake name. I don't know his real name.
But that's not what I that's not what the intent was there. That it's just it's the people that treat him like God and everything he says is true. Anyway, anyway.
Video's over.
>> [laughter] >> Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
And yeah. Check out the video in the top right corner of the screen where I actually deal with this in full.
It's all about the Randle Cycle and raw milk and raw primal diet stuff and all that. So, anyway. And also, if you haven't signed up for the free newsletter, link is in the description below for that.
Sign up. It takes 10 seconds.
So, or don't. Whatever.
Anyway, I'll see you in the next one whenever we're dealing with some more nonsense online.
So.
Till then.
