Allen West discovered tiny spherules in sediment layers that were the size of dust grains and shaped like ball bearings, and when he consulted Ted Bunch—a retired NASA administrator who had worked on moon rocks, helped discover the K-Pg impactor, and visited nearly half of Earth's impact craters—Bunch expressed that he had never seen anything like these samples, indicating they represented an unusual and previously undocumented phenomenon in impact crater research.

Ted Bunch Had Seen Nearly Half the Impact Craters on Earth. He Had Never Seen Anything Like This.Ajouté :
One thing led to another, as I was trying to analyze these things we were finding these sediment these little spherules, which look like a ball bearing except they're the size of a grain of dust, so incredibly small. So, as I was looking to find people that could analyze them, that led me to Ted Bunch. He was a retired NASA administrator, had worked on the moon rocks, had helped Alvarez and his group discover the KPG impactor. So, the guy knew a lot about impacts. So, I showed him this stuff just asking him to offering to pay to have them analyzed, and he just got really excited. He said, "I've never seen anything like what you have before." He said, "And I've been to nearly half the craters on the planet, and what you've got is unusual."
