In carbureted engines, the vacuum line for the distributor must be connected to a source of variable vacuum (typically above the carburetor) rather than constant vacuum (at the base), because constant vacuum does not advance the timing when the throttle opens, which is essential for proper engine performance and starting.

Correct Information From My YouTube Subscribers Which Helps Me Learn May 11 2026Added:
Okay, Monday morning in the kingdom and it's going to be windy today. Yes, and it's going to rain. So, we're going to play outside till it rains. And then we're going to be inside the shop working on the fender to please the boss. So, this morning we woke up to plus three, but feels like minus 2 on a yo-yo scale. Plus 37 Fahrenheit, but feels like plus 28 Fahrenheit. 37 Chevd, we got two of those. Yes, fun times. My wasted youth. And also too, the government weather site wasn't working again today. So what? It only works what? Three, four times a month on freaking real. So then I have to go searching for the weather and the weather network doesn't change it to Fahrenheit. So then I have to take the calculations and Google them. Yes, Google them. It's supposed to rain today and the power came back on for some people in Hville at 5:00 p.m. yesterday.
So I think a transformer blew up or whatever, but unreal. That cut our live show short. Yes. And then we went back on and then it started flickering again.
But that's okay. Now, if we planned to go live during the two weekends, we had snow and wind and everything. We would have lost power for sure. And then, how would you say, not been live, but that's okay. We're getting it done. All right, let's go a bit this way. Look at the sun. Look at that. It's melting slowly.
Yes, slowly. The yard's drying up. That is a cold wind. It's a good thing I dress the same as if it's 30 below or plus three. Yes. All right. There we go.
No wood stoves this morning so far. And the staff will gather more wood cuz it's supposed to be chilly still. We'll be burning wood in July. Yes. Oh, that's a cool breeze. All right. So, last night I was on Facebook reels. Yes, reels.
That's little videos that how would you say they tell you what you're going to watch as you scroll down. It's not like you get to choose like on YouTube. So, I stopped and watched this blonde lady in Brazil driving a three on the tree. Yes, three on the tree. So, there she is in her younger days. You watch one video and then the reels will give you all the videos that lady ever made. So, there she is, young and skinny, learning to drive three on the tree. And then she's finishing up with her latest one. She's full figured. I think she's had a couple of kids and I would you say her hair turned blonde. Yes, turned blonde. And she's showing lots of cleavage and she does the three on the tree. And the thing is she's driving, I would say, big Land Cruisers. Yes. the American Land Cruisers. So, get to see her driving.
And then you get thinking, we grew up with three on the tree and standards and everything up and down. And here's this lady making videos that get lots of views, not because of her cleavage. It's because the way she shifts the transmission and working the clutch and it won't go in onto second and everything. I just sit there going, "Uhoh, now my my fuse or what I grew up with is now history." And the people find it fascinating growing up with three on the tree. Anro, but the good videos. I enjoy it. And she drives around in those classic Land Cruiser cars. Oh, we better go. Here comes the boss. He's probably going to give me what for for chatting too long. Oh my.
He's such an Monday morning in Whoville. It's just after 9:00 a.m. And as you can see, the sun is shining. There's a few clouds in the sky, and it's windy again, but other than that, it's pretty nice out here.
Now, let's head inside, let the dogs out, and make breakfast. Then at 1:00 p.m. or so, I'll get the quad out and head over to the kingdom and see what we're doing this afternoon. Hope you guys had a good Mother's Day yesterday.
Enjoyed all the food. Okay, after morning coffee in the kingdom. No, I'm still having my coffee. I got half a cup to go and it's getting windy. Useless two is actually spinning over there.
That's a rare occasion. Yeah. All right, so it's Monday. We check the hydrometers and I'm about 323 kilowatt hours. Oh, hand and eye coordination. Okay, so it works out to be 31.86 rough amount. You had the fees, the other fees, service fees, and the rotation of the earth fee.
And I'm down 26 kW less than last week.
But the staff increased 28 kow because she's a house in the suburbs of Whoville getting all the wind and everything and she can't burn her wood stove when it's how you say nasty out or whatever the wind. But if we change out the wood stove and everything like that to make it burn all the time, it'd be pointless.
Yes, we can adjust and how you say live with 57.50 a week or whatever. So, average it out to say 70 bucks a week.
So, I think she's doing good in the suburbs. But we're doing this to show there's no how would you say power increases or surges like last year she had a $800 hydro bill the month of May and it was bone dry and forest fires everywhere. But look at that. It's little little lots of snow around here.
But the Gong Show mining company does have a burning permit. Compliments of the government. All right, let's get this done so we can get back to work.
Okay, insert the video of the truck running with the slight modifications.
Okay. I like waking up on a Monday morning and seeing the comments on the YouTube channel. Yes. And there was what four or five excellent ones. And that's what we're are the learning channel.
Okay. You got to remember I live at the end of the world. Yes. The end of the world. So when I lived down south or grew up in the hot rod world, my dad always being an automotive instructor at the college plus a hot rod guru, we'd always make garage visits and people working on their hot rods and dad would point out mistakes or how to improve because that was back in the days when there was no Google, there was nothing.
You had to go for a visit, have a few drinks and talk about the hot rod. Yes, I remember those days. Well, so I'm not a mechanic. I've never adjusted the carburetors. Never had anything to do with them because my dad did that and then he went and passed away. Hey, I don't know what he was thinking. Oh, wait, mother. Okay, so now I have to learn. Okay, so yesterday's video, the YouTube subscribers, Kingdom followers, pointed out the vacuum line was going to the base of the carburetor, which is constant vacuum. It's sucking. You want it to suck to advance it when the throttle bodies are opening up. So, you have to be above it. So, we did a quick Google search, came up with this glossy photo. I printed it. Yes, I'm color blind, so I print everything in black and white. So, why should I print in color for others to enjoy? Then I came out here and had some ideas. We're going to get this thing up and running. Okay, so over here when I went to take the air cleaner off, there's the diagram. See, look at that. That's in color. I think I think it would be in color. I don't think GM would be printing off non-colored labels. So, it's showing the distributor coming over here and then going to the high side here. So, it's H.
And then we have this one here showing the big one going to the canister wherever it is right there. Okay. So, we don't have the charcoal canister. So, we used one of those uh filters for inside the air filter. Okay. So, it's good enough for that. We put it on there. All right. So, we did that. Then we got it running and now we made adjustments. So, we was trying to set it with the timing light, but look at how small that harmonic balancer is in the front. That should be a wide one and you can see it down in here. So, we just cranked it over. We can shine the test light or timing light in through here and get a I would say quick glance at it. But we set it so it starts. Okay. So, we have no idea where it is, but it starts. That's the main thing. So, we're very pleased.
Very pleased. And also too, we have to remember that this motor or that Chevy Suburban came in 2004. We scrapped it in 2018. Like, cut it all up. The last time it was driven, I would say currently would be 2010. And so this carburetor's been sitting. I would just say needs some love after all these years. But very pleased it runs and drives. All right. So let's get the hood bolted on cuz it looks like it's going to rain and then we'll be hiding in the shop.
Okay. In the shop seems what we're doing to that motor out there. That's an 86 Chevy Suburban. It has all the pollution stuffer starting on that carburetor. So we have this 305 that came out of an 86 Chevy truck from Keno and it had the bad cam. We changed it out and put in a used cam. And now it runs. This is the best running motor in the kingdom because we put no new parts on it. No new parts cuz this was a 305 scrap motor because of the cam and everything. So it never got anything new. And it runs the best. It starts, it runs, it drives. So the first thing we did after we worked on the one outside is we came and put the vacuum line here above right there. And we closed off this here. So they're matching because these are the two newest motors in the kingdom. All right, let's get to work before the boss finds us.
Okay, lunchtime in the kingdom and I think the rains are coming. But we got the hood on. I put some bolts in it so it doesn't slide off and fall off. But the thing runs a lot better. After lunch, we'll figure out the exhaust system. Yes, the exhaust. So, we can goes voom voom a lot better. And it was windy this morning. Useless tube was spinning. Yes. I don't know what it generated for power. Probably nothing.
All right, let's go burn some lunch in the microwave.
>> 12:00 p.m. and I'm just getting ready to make lunch. I'll be having my leftover plate of ribs from last night. It was delicious. Now, let's head inside and let the dogs out. Then I can heat up lunch.
12:30 and I'm just finishing up lunch and fed the dogs. I got the quad out.
Now I will head up and grab butter from the store and then go over to the kingdom. I have to get the mini out and fill the box trailer and the wagon, then cut up some firewood. Kind of looks like it might rain or snow, but let's see if that actually happens.
Made it to the kingdom. I picked up some butter bread and they had cookies on sale, so I grabbed those. It was $30 for everything, which isn't bad. The cookies were on sale. Normally, they're about $9, and I got them for four, which is pretty good. Now, we'll head down and get the mini out and then take the box trailer and the wagon over to the wood pile and fill everything.
1:00 p.m. And I got the mini out and I'm hooked up to the box trailer and the wagon. You can't really see it, but now I'm on my way down to the wood pile. I'm not going to stop at the timber pile. It is too wet over there, and that is still melting. So, I will wait till another day. But I wanted to show you guys on my way down to the wood pile. You can see the table is nice and clear now. All the ice has melted from around it. And all the snow as well, too.
I cleared the snow away from the table just a few days ago, and there was probably a foot of ice underneath the table and where I'm standing. But now that I moved the snow away, it's melting pretty good. Everywhere that I touch the snow has been melting, even over by the south dog trail and where I got the pipes.
Made it down to the wood pile. I had a hard time turning around with the mud.
Accidentally bumped the mini onto the corner of the box trailer, but that's okay. This wood here was old and we can always replace it if needed. It was just scabbed together so we had something to put firewood in. Now I will quickly load everything. It is starting to rain.
1:30 and didn't take me very long. I was able to get the box trailer and the wagon filled. I didn't fill the box trailer all the way up. That way the wet stuff in there can still dry. Now, let's head back to the kingdom and put everything away. Almost 2:00 p.m. and I just put the mini away. Got a bunch of trees into the shop and the host shack.
And I was able to get the wagon in as well. If it rains, this stuff will get wet. Now I'm officially done in the kingdom. So, I'll head back into Whoville and put the quad away. Okay, after lunch in the kingdom, the staff's riding the mini hoe and I'm over here going to try and beat the rains. Okay.
So, back in the day, h be five, six years ago. All right. I think this frame was shortened in 2018. Okay. You can see the panel there cuz uh the family, how would you say, played the Dukes of Hazard and jumped from the road into the farmer's field cuz they were on a T intersection, not a straight through intersection, and bent the frame. It was a long wheelbase truck at the time with a grain box, so there was a 2-in dip right in here, so we shortened it. Then, we have that steel deck to go on here.
So, we had these pipes on the going up the back of the cab like all the other trucks. And we still have to finish the back of the cab. Plus, we have to finish the welding deck. So, there's no sense putting the pipes up the back of the cab. So, we're just going to put them together and run them out the back. Why not? Just to get it that sound. Plus, this stuff is annoying in the shop. It rolls around. It's all different lengths. So, this is how we had it back in the day. It was down there joined.
All right. So over here we got the welder set up. Try not to run the cable through the water. Yes. Try not to.
Okay. So over here we got the centering I would say grid or whatever jig and clamp it down. Weld it here. And the rod of choice will be the 718 Hobart 1/8.
And we're going to burn some nice rod.
Get this thing done. Get some exhaust coming out the back. And that'll give it some sound. Yes, some sound. Yeah, cuz everything we do is temporary lasts up to 20 years. All right, let's get to work.
Okay, coffee time in the kingdom. And this was great fun. Anytime I was welding, I was spitting rain. Anytime I was trying to mark something or drill a hole, it was spitting rain. So, now it's coffee time and it's kind of not looking like it's going to rain. Yes. So, I just shake my head. Plus, my shop floor was getting wet, but we got it done. So, these are the original pipes that went up the back. We just butt weld them together to get the reducer for the how would you say the 2-in exhaust right there. And we have the flex hose, the wrap clamp. I mean the flex pipe and the wrap clamps. Here's a better photo. The next hard part was might as well just send it to the back here. Can't drop the pipes down. We know with the amount of springs we got here and for around the yard, we won't be uh how do you say touching it that way. And then the next hard part is we have brand new muffler uh exhaust pipe holding clamps things or whatever. They're they're all nice quality ones. So we didn't want to cut and bend and break them. So we made them fit the way they were. So we had to do a little drilling, little welding, little bit of this, a little bit of that. And now we're going to have to put some a little curvature down there so that we don't have to put the coffee can all the time or if it rains all the rain water will go down. But there we go. So now we know where the pipes are. We're not moving around the yard 20 times, but once the deck is on this uh truck, then the pipes can go back straight up the way they were for five, six years. Okay.
All right. So, we start these projects and we're getting around to finishing them. Not like my father and my father.
Not like my father and his father before him. Oh, these lips aren't working. We need a coffee or something.
5:00 p.m. And this is the temperature we're sitting at right now. It's 11Β° C, which is 51Β° F. We would have the feels like on the bottom. It was pretty nice in the kingdom this afternoon. It rained a little bit, but not much came down.
Now, let's head inside, let the dogs out, make supper, and end my day. Okay, 5:30 in the kingdom. I moved it up to drier ground or closer to the workbench over there. Okay, so I put some little rain caps on the back of the exhaust here. It's either this or nothing. And also too, if you look real close, there's the transfer case cuz that Suburban from Wisconsin was four-wheel drive. We left the transfer case in cuz who said these axles can have to stay under the truck cuz I could always make it a 4x4. Yes, 4x4 truck. All right, so we played around. Oh, I did this backwards, but that's okay. I'm old. All right, so we'll do a walk and talk video walking around my rubber boots today.
Okay, so now we've got this thing running that the carburetor has to come apart and be cleaned. I imagine there's lots of debris in there after all these years and dry gas, everything you name it in there. But I put a little hand throttle on. Look at that. Yes. So, I did that. Oh, yes. The hardest part was finding a chain. And then I went and got the safety chain off of one of the little trailer jacks. So, now we know that the carburetor can have a how would you say a carb kit or whatever cleaning put in because uh yes, a refresh. Yes.
Up here in the kingdom, we do the refresh. We don't rebuild, we refresh.
Now that we know that we got the fuel over pressurized controlled and the vacuum lines approximately in the right location after 20 some years or more. So what we did here when we were in the scrap metal business and stripping cars, you make sure you save the Chevy vent door for the in the 70s. They had a little dog knob there to pull the vent door down on the floor there for the kick panel. Those work good for chokes and for hand throttle. So you just pull on it and the ch the throttle will obviously increase the RPMs. All right.
So very pleased. Let's see if we can set the tripod up for a drive by for the end of day. That'll impress the boss.
Okay. The motor wasn't running right and I wasn't too pleased with that distributor. So, four distributors later, we found one that works. Yes. So over here, this is the brand new one we put in in 2022.
38 Maple Leaf might quit anytime 2025.
Okay, so these are Cardon HIS right from uh Rock Auto. There's five of them in the trailer number seven that'll get no resale value at my estate sale cuz they're junk. So I figured I'd take that one out that wasn't working.
It didn't seem right. Okay, it just didn't have to snap or anything like that. So, I put this one in and Mike quit. It was sitting here running away and it quit. And then no, no start. No start. So, I went and got another one.
Put it in. No start. Went and got another one. So, I went and got this one. I know it works cuz for was a 37 Dodge hot rod truck and plunked it in and it works. Fires right up. So, I just shake my head. So, here I am buying stuff back in 2022. Four years later, we're still working on it. So, I think I'm going to have to figure out this stuff. And I just shake my head. But the carburetor is getting better and it sounds better. It's got some zippity dooah when you kind of give it some acceleration cuz the other distributor we had in there that we were playing with, it kind of was Like the timing was off. And I got the timing light working down in there. And we got it kind of pass the big one down a bit or whatever. But this where it starts.
This is the only place where it starts.
all the other times you try and crank it over. And also too, when this one was in, okay, I was trying to use the timing light to find it, I couldn't find the timing mark. Yeah, it was everywhere but where it was supposed to be. So then it I was farting around and then it quit.
Oh well. All right, let's park this thing and call it a day cuz I think we did lots today. The boss should be impressed.
Okay, insert the video for moving it from here over to there. And it's still not right, but at least it's idling.
Remember last winter when we moved it out of the shop and farting around? It would not idle. So, we're slowly getting better. We had too much fuel pressure.
Now, we just have to get it to, I would say, run properly. All right.
Okay, that's it for us. We've had enough. We worked till 7. I think it's 7:30. I don't know. But it was supposed to rain tonight. Yes, they were saying it's supposed to start in the late afternoon and rain, but instead it was spitting rain all day. And now look at the clear skies. Look at that.
Unfreaking real. Never trust the weather like an ex-wife. All right, let's see what the flags are doing. Nothing. Once the rains came, the wind has died down.
All right, let's go walk the dogs, make a video. We got some things done today.
The boss will be pleased. Talk to you later.
