This weather forecast for Northern California on May 21, 2026, predicts a warm day with temperatures in the upper 90s for the valley and 80s-90s for higher elevations, followed by a temperature drop over the weekend. The forecast indicates scattered showers and thunderstorms primarily in the mountains, with a chance of activity rolling into the valley by evening. Fire weather conditions are moderate due to low relative humidity (8-10% in the valley), requiring attention to prevent new fires. The high pressure system over the Eastern Pacific is driving the warming trend, while a weather system approaching from the north will bring precipitation mainly to northern counties (Del Norte, Humboldt, Siskiyou, Modoc, Eastern Mountains) by Friday afternoon.

Good evening everyone. It's beginning to heat up out there. We've got another warm day in store for us tomorrow before temperatures start to drop over the weekend and especially next weekend.
Also, some showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast as well, especially for many of the higher elevations. Let's take a look at our forecast for tonight.
I'm expecting those low to mid-60s in the valley, 40s, 50s for the higher elevations, and probably somewhere in the low to mid-50s for the coast. Now, tomorrow morning once again, we'll probably see maybe some low clouds, maybe a little bit of fog for parts of you along the coast, but otherwise, plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures. Look at 8:00 in the morning for the valley. Already up to about 70° and it's all thanks to high pressure over the eastern Pacific. It's not directly overhead, but it is expanding into our area and that's why we're seeing those warmer temperatures.
So, looking at futurecast, anything we do see develop this afternoon and evening is most likely going to dissipate very quickly once the sun does set. But, look at Friday. Friday, another chance for showers and thunderstorms working their way into the mountains. We may see some of those try to roll into the valley by the evening hours, but as of right now, it looks fairly dry for the valley and even for the north coast. So, for your Friday, temperatures in the upper 90s once again for the valley, mid to upper 90s, and then probably somewhere in the 80s and 90s for the high elevations with mid to even some maybe some upper 60s for some of you along the coast. So, looking at your 7-day outlook, yeah, temperatures start to drop over the weekend, but still low 90s for the valley, upper 80s Monday, upper 70s by Tuesday, still dry, and then warming up again as we go through the rest of next week.
Now, for the coast, dry through Monday, chance for showers Tuesday. Inland, dry through Monday, chance for showers Tuesday. Trinity County, Weaverville, Hayfork, you may see a shower, you may see nice and thunderstorm as early as tomorrow, and then maybe again on Tuesday of next week, but your holiday weekend at this point looking dry.
Take a look at Siskiyou County, Modoc County, Eastern Mountains, chance for showers, chance for thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon. Dry for your your holiday weekend, and then Tuesday, another chance for those showers. So, let's take a look at our fire weather outlook, starting off with those winds.
No major wind events are expected over the next 24 hours. Should those thunderstorms develop tomorrow afternoon, gusty winds associated with those thunderstorms, but otherwise, your overall trend is not calling for gusty winds. It's not until Saturday, as you can see here, a bit of that south wind, nothing to be terribly concerned about.
It's also the case for the Eastern Mountains with that westerly wind. And then again, we'll probably see that for your Sunday as well, but most likely not getting much higher than 20, maybe 25 mph. So, the fire weather risk and your humidity, right? So, we take a look at that, and you can see we're mainly within the moderate risk. Pretty standard, pretty typical.
It's not until we get into the deep oranges and reds that we got to really start paying attention. However, still very dry. Teens up Excuse me, single digits and low teens for the next several days, most likely, even through the weekend. You can see Sunday, yeah, right around 8 to 10% relative humidity in the valley. So, yes, we need to start paying attention to those fire weather conditions so we can do everything we can to help prevent those new fires from starting. Warming trend continues. Heat wave peaks today and tomorrow with possible mountain showers tomorrow, and then once again, Tuesday, and then slightly cooler going into the weekend, and especially for next week. Let's get into that deeper dive forecast for your Thursday, May 21st. So, again, it's that high pressure. I've been talking about it all week long. It's centered over the Eastern Pacific, not over us, but it is extending into our region, which is why temperatures have been increasing. So, looking at the long range, let's show you tomorrow. There's that chance Yes, so the long range even picking up on that potential for showers and thunderstorms for the mountains for tomorrow afternoon. Saturday, Sunday, Monday look dry, and then we've got this system right here that's coming in. I think it's going to be mainly in the north parts of Northern California. What I mean by that is Del Norte, Northern Humboldt, Siskiyou, Modoc, Eastern mountains, and probably north of the valley.
Then we go into Thursday, Friday, Saturday, even Sunday, Monday of next week looking dry. So, yeah, there are chances for showers in there, but it doesn't look like overall a lot. All right, so let's take you into this evening. Once again, anything that should develop this evening will quickly die down once the sun does set. And then for your Friday midday, we're already beginning to see a few showers and thunderstorms trying to pop up.
Probably see a little bit more widespread activity in the mountains by late afternoon, early evening. Once again, just surrounding the valley. So, Del Norte, Humboldt Humboldt County most likely, even the inland areas are dry.
We're really not even seeing a lot of activity developing in Modoc County, but basically the mountains surrounding the valley have the best chance for showers and thunderstorms for your Friday. Then by Saturday, it looks like it's fairly dry. Now, there's a little bit of activity trying to develop here to the north and east.
So, yeah, if you see a stray shower or thunderstorm in Modoc County, maybe even Northern Siskiyou County, don't be surprised for Saturday.
But by Sunday, there you take you through the afternoon, right? Maybe out towards the Sierra seeing some of those showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, but looks like for the most part your Memorial Day weekend looking dry with the exception of Friday, right? If you're kind of taking off early on Friday, there's that big dip in the temperatures by Tuesday along with that chance for showers mainly in the mountains and the coast and then temperatures creeping back up again after that. By the end of next week, we're back in the upper 80s to low 90s and then of course low to mid 90s into that next weekend. So your neighborhood forecast sponsored by Dignity Health and Grange Co-op, we're looking at those temperatures in the 90s, right? But Mad River about 81, 88 for Ruth, but 92 for Weaverville, 94 in Douglas City. Chance for showers, possible thunderstorms, and then again on Tuesday.
We take it to the North Coast and for the coast, yeah, chance for showers and thunderstorms. Mainly a chance [clears throat] for showers by next Tuesday. Otherwise, dry leading up to that.
Up to the north, same story. Dry through Monday. So yeah, you got a dry uh Memorial Day weekend.
And then by Tuesday, you've got that chance for showers moving in. Now, tomorrow afternoon, we could see some activity for parts of Siskiyou County.
Places like Happy Camp, Fort Jones, Etna, I think your chances are slimmer.
I would say mainly uh uh parts of central and even eastern uh Siskiyou County have a chance tomorrow. And then again on Tuesday, I think everyone in Siskiyou County will see that chance as well as Modoc County. Uh so I still have a chance in there on Friday, but do know as the farther north and east you go, Alturas, Fort Bidwell, you're having a harder time seeing those showers developing tomorrow.
I think you've got better chances coming in for Tuesday of next week. In the eastern mountains, yeah, I think everyone. Now, once again, it looks like it it it wants to favor mainly Lassen and Plumas counties, maybe not as much in say eastern Shasta or Tehama County or even eastern Butte County, but we can't rule out maybe a stray shower or thunderstorm developing in some of those areas. Otherwise, for the valley, we're dry for Friday. Temperatures still on the warm side, mid to upper 90s for your daytime highs, but temperatures dropping over the weekend. There you can see in Chico up down to 88 by your Memorial Day, upper 70s on Tuesday, and low to mid-80s by Wednesday and Thursday. Now, again, we're right around the mid-to-upper 90s for your daytime highs.
That might be overdoing it, but you get the idea. It's going to be another fairly warm day for your Friday before we drop back down into the low 90s over the weekend, 80s Monday, 70s Tuesday, back in the 80s by Wednesday and Thursday of next week. That's your evening update. I'll be back again tomorrow morning and live on Coffee with Krueger at 6:30.
Have a great night.
